I got to see a flying squirrel when my 5th grade class went to a camp. The one I saw seemed so much bigger than the ones in this video. It's cool to know that they can change direction in mid flight.

I was out early really deep in the woods one before sunrise one morning and sat at the base of a tree and couple came flying and landed right above me on the same tree a few feet above my head. Let me tell you, there is no photo or video that can illustrate how incredibly cute these things are in real life. When they look at you with those eyes and little smiling cheeks they melt your heart and touch your soul 😂

Their faces look guinea pig like. I don't doubt that I havent seen them fly 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️. They're just super common. So I don't really put thought into them like that. Just learned today, they're only common in the us. My thought process on them is they're cute. & That's pretty much it. Maybe I've got them to "communicate" w/ me, idk. Most animals always love me anyways. But yeah, I just knew they had to be related to rodents. My g.pig is making his zoomies while I'm watching this, ha. Not exactly flying. But he does look a little bit like a blur. But on land instead. 😍🤗Ok I just wanted to brag about my boys. They're always popcorning & running around. I can be doing absolutely nothing & they're still doing all their signs of contentment. out of no where too. I must be doing something right. Little fur balls warm my heart. I think they even like it when I just simply talk to them. Even if they don't understand. But I kinda think they do, to some extent. Like when I say," I love you Whiskers & Axl. & Axl & whiskers." 😁🤓 They def respond.

I love flying fishes, flying snakes, flying squirrels, flying lizards, anything that can fly but cannot 😉 it's just so inherently cool and interesting and primeval like hoetzins and shoe bills. Evolution in the making. The link between. P.S. I know these animals will never develop powered flight. But who knows for sure.🤩

The squirrel can control the way he gliding. That amazing and supraising. Most people would think they can't turn left or right after jump. But now, I know my Sugar Glider can also do that.

I have a little Glaucomys volans kit. I got him after his mama abandoned him. (Pretty sure she was a 1st time mom). It broke my heart that she had a lot of chances to go & grab him & take him back with her, but she just wouldn’t do it. I’ve kept trying since then, & she still won’t. So.. here I am, trying to raise a precious little innocent baby flying squirrel. Wish me luck guys.

A Squirrel is very fast so having it's Gliding wings out while running top speed could made start lift and flight. Could be why they are considered the Flying Squirrels.

Belleflower I have 2 of them since birth. They are now 3 years old. They have giving so much joy. I never see them during the day. Thier eyes don't focus well during the day light hours. But, I make sure I spend sometime with them at night

I don't get it. There's not a single comment I can see mentioning that this seems cruel. I wonder what the impetus was for the squirrels to decide to jump? In nature they'd leap from a tree to another - not to the ground generally. And what about the first one that escaped? Can it survive easily in the wild? I'm usually a big fan of NatGeo but disappointed in them.

I was sad when people were so misinformed on RU-vid, I sarcasticly suggested they watch some squirrel videos. Then I realized in my efforts to educate or inform others of the real world, my comments were unwanted by RU-vid and were promptly deleted without notification. Since there was nothing I could do without a voice, I began my mindless pursuit of watching squirrel videos. Ends up, I find out they are smarter than humans! True story. This is what the world has come to. But thankfully there are other platforms which allow free speech. So happy for that.

So how far did they fly?? They go to all that trouble to launch the squirrels from over the goal line so they can more easily measure the distance, and they don't even tell us in the video how far they flew?
