Just a quick video to point out a few things I saw on a copy of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN I was grading for the DotComComics amount on eBay. Rather than hold the book for whenever I next produce a full grading video, I thought I’d pop out a quick vid on tip & hints regarding staples.
Put succinctly: Staples can be replaced on a comic book otherwise graded up to FN+ 6.5 and not affect the grade at all. The same is true from FN/VF 7.0 to NM 9.4, with the exception that staples replaced in that case must be vintage, whatever the heck that means. Only in grades NM/M 9.8 to GM 10.0 must the book have its original staples.
But all that comes with this caveat - any new or replacement staples must be affixed correctly! Otherwise, the new staples become a defect, detracting from the book’s overall grade.
