I love the fact that you're able to do all this in such a simple and easy way and still being an idol for many people (including me). You are a true role-model for not every Trombone player, but for every musician! I hope i can achieve such a peace of mind and professionalism like yours someday.

I’m blown away, that’s a TON of precision! While I don’t carry my life with nearly that much consistency, I find it far more helpful to set my goals and routines on a weekly basis rather than a daily one, especially during the hectic life of a college student
@ChristianLindbergTrombone
@ChristianLindbergTrombone 6 лет назад
Of course this is also what Maestro Lindberg does! He has daily, weekly, monthly yearly and 5-10 year goals with all that he does.

Christian Lindberg that’s also brilliant! How does the Maestro keep track of all that? I’ve tried having a ‘to do list’ file on my computer but it can be difficult to stick to
@ChristianLindbergTrombone
@ChristianLindbergTrombone 6 лет назад
Maestro Lindberg has a 5 year schedule in Excell with all his engagements marked in, and every day and week is marked in. First day of the week he marks in how the wokring schedule should look, and how much time he can devote to every thing he has to prepare. Great to have a to do list on the computer, and you should never punish yourself if it does not work. Best regards Hedvig (Maestro Lindberg´s project manager)

Hello Christian Lindberg, my name is Eliezer Marcos, I'm Brazilian and I've been playing the trombone for a few years, I want to tell you that I'm your fan and that I really admire your work, your technique, your Son Maravilhoso on the trombone. Here in Brazil and all over the world you are a great reference for all of us musicians. Congratulations on your work, congratulations on being an excellent professional and a great trombonist. More than 12 years ago I had the honor of seeing you up close in a presentation at the Santa Isabel theater in my city of Recife, state of Pernambuco, I will never forget those few good hours that you performed, thank you very much. May God always bless you.

Still have a lot to learn! Thanks for your inspiration! Armin

I just wanted to let you know that you have been an amazing inspiration to me. I started trombone practice about 22 years ago. I have most of your studio CDs and have been absolutely blown away at your mastery of the trombone and beautiful playing. Unfortunately, I stopped playing consistently about 13 years ago, but I still listen to your music on occasion. I did not realize how disciplined you are with your routine, and the amount of dedication you put to your craft until watching this video. However, it makes perfect sense upon watching, given your skill. Keep up the great work, and thank you for being such an inspiration to me and countless others.

Dear Jmastaaflex, what a wonderful message to receive! Yes, everything in life needs effort, and the discipline is necessary to reach artistic goals and visions. I hope you keep going, and finally want to give you a Dostojevskij quote: " Life is not about reaching the goal, it is about the road up until reaching the goal" Best of luck with everything!!

I am impressed by how organized, efficient and effective your day is. My routine is not quite as structured although I make it a point to do 2 things every morning- 30 minutes of varied physical exercise (depending on the day) and 30 minutes of trombone practice. I do this between 5:30 and 6:30 am before I begin my day as a parent and an elementary school music teacher. In the afternoon/evening each day, I have varied responsibilities depending on the day, but I do try to get another 30 minutes of practice in. My wife and I have two groups that we are members of so we have one rehearsal on Tuesday evenings and one rehearsal on Sundays. I don't know that I could ever quite schedule my day as well as yours, but I appreciate seeing what you've done to be so good at what you do and hope to apply some of these ideas. Thank you! Mike

My routine is haggard if I were to compare. My passion is my strong point and has yielded, with a lot of work, good results. I'm a salsa trombone player and R'n B and Jazz aspirant. To see a day in your life is quite a magnificent window into a real way to play at higher levels. I thank you. You're like a monk. At least in this video. We know that the internet has no bias for truth or deception, so always caveat emptor but I'm a believer in the case.

Hey Mr. Lindberg! Thanks for this impressive video. At first I thought it was meant to be a joke, but in the end I believed you :) Your are very fortunate to have this environment (and earned it, of course). Although some probably find your routine boring, I would do something exactly like that if I had the time :) Nevertheless, I also have some fitness-routines like you do. At the moment I´m feeling very good with 3x running/3x biking (with changing intervals and pulse mostly between 130-145, which is 75%-80% of my age-heartrate) on alternating days and doing a five-to-ten-minute miniature circuit training in the evening (pull-ups, sit-ups, weighted squats, pushups, combined biceps-curls/shoulder presses, each day starting with a different exercise and not till complete exhaustion) - I figured out that obviously there´s quick progress possible with this and increasing repetitions are an objective measurement it works well. Additionally, I´m doing some occasional yoga, mini-trampoline or stepper. Doing sports is essential for me as a person and also as a musician, but I noticed one has to be careful cause there´s a big effect on trombone playing and my "musician-routine-genes" are very dangerous for that, cause for my mental comfort I would love to do the same things every day, but then frequently tend to overtrain myself, which results in less good stamina and a less good sound on the trombone...I guess a "only half recharged battery" also shows on the lips and in ones breath :) In my everyday life, I have a life probably comparable to yours - only on a regional level and not international. My weekly things are conducting a protestant music school, teaching 25 brass students, playing concerts and doing RU-vid-Videos (not every week, though) and doing occasional compositions and arrangements. Also I´m having a family with two kids (6/3). All in all, that´s a lot to do and a lot of fun :) Sorry for this very detailed comment. You are (besides my love of music and my fascination for trombone playing) one of the big reasons I became a musician (and not a sports teacher, which I studied at first). Greetings, Michael

Hi Maestro Lindberg. Your discipline to this routine is beyond inspiring. One question about your 24 minute practice sessions - How do you balance repertoire you are working on with warming up/cooling down so that you don’t hurt yourself but still get adequate time to work on whatever you need to? Do your practice sessions break down further (such as 5 minute warm up, 17 minutes of rep, 1 minute cool down)? How do you manage your practice sessions to get the most out of them while staying healthy chop wise?
@ChristianLindbergTrombone
@ChristianLindbergTrombone 6 лет назад
Dear Bobby, Thanks for your interesting questions! I actually only in the warmup, the first 24 minute session, care about the lip getting in shape. Once I have done that it tends to stay with me the rest of the day so that I can just concerntrate on what I need to do! I believe that it has become an addiction among brass playesr to warmup. My impression is that you only need it once, right in the morning before having palyed anytin else.

That’s an incredible routine! I’m sure you get these questions often, but what mouthpiece do you use on your tenor? I’m thinking of purchasing your 4Cl. I think that you’re the best bone player, and I also don’t really believe in buzzing with the mouthpiece, lol, so I want to try to get an identical tone to yours. Keep doing great man!
@ChristianLindbergTrombone
@ChristianLindbergTrombone 6 лет назад
Thanks a lot for your encouraging message. I play 4CL 98% of the time, it works almost for everything. If occationally I need a little darker sound I can switch to 2CL without any problem, and if I need more brightness, or better endurance in the high register I switch as easily to 5CL. But 4CL, YES! I can certainly recommend that! Best Christian

Very good question Benjamin...??... it was so long ago, in fact as far back as the 80s when I read about those things, so I can not remember the source. Maybe you are right??? I might even have shorten the session by two minutes to be absolutely sure, but I also remember that I felt I needed minimum 6 minutes for the brain to recover, and to start on equal half hours was practical. Interesting, I am going to search again for the source! Thanks for your interest Benjamin!!

4CL is the mouthpiece that I developed together with my father in law over a period of 6 years, so I can highly recommend it!! You could also try the 5 CL which is a little easier to play in the high register, while 4CL is better in the low. Best of luck and thanks for nice compliments! Christian

I want to share you the routine that I try to do every day but without much persistente😅: I am a violinist and i’m studying in a conservatory so I wake up at 6.30 am, i go running and after i do a shower. After I have breakfast and when the conservatory open at 8.00 am i go practice for 1 half hour(only for scaes and arpeggios)…after sometimes i have some lessons and i usually finish the School day at 17.00 (clarely with launch break and some practice session alone) after i go to the gym and i workout for 1/1.30 hrs. After the 18 i usually don’t study because i make the dinner and watch some films or ski race (I love skiing). I go to bed at 22.30/23 with some reading session before. I am Italian so my English is not so good but i’d like to do an Erasmus experience so i have to improve my english. Thanks for have read the comment, i hope u like it🙂.

Hi Christian, I Love to make my Routine which is choosen to my wonderful aims. In your Video it Looks like, that you only make your Routine to fixed times. 1. But what do you do when you for example have new great ideas for composing but the time for composing is over? Is it better in your experience to continue composing or to continue to the next routine? 2. How many 20 minutes Trombone practice sessions are most effectively every day? 3. Hiw often do you do these daily routines a week? (5 days a week or every second day?) Very nice Video and very inspiring! Thanks Coach! Max Weber (Trombone and Drums)

Dear Max thanks a lot for your nice message. 1. Actually the best is to stop and go to the next routine. Then I will be so thrilled coming back to it again, and I have never really forgotten about ideas or inspirational thoughts. Discipline in my opinion is the absolute best way to tease creativity!!! 2. At the moment I do 4-5 per day (24 minutes) but when I was 100% doing trombone career it could be up to 12-16 24 minute sessions per day. I would say 5-8 sessions is a good balance!! 3 I usually do it 3 days in a row, and then relax, but sometimes I have done it 9 days in a row. As I said in another answer below, 3 days of my daily routine is as effective as a full week without this carefully planned routine. However, it is very important not to do it every single day, because if you do you become a totally isolated creature without anything to tell humanly as an artist BEST OF LUCK!!! Christian

I do 30 min work blocks for my work as a mathematician. I also think about what to do when overtime. Usually i stop, but make one or two sentences of notes on my ‘’important’’ plans. Its so interesting to see others with similarly deliberate approaches to occupation.

How can you fit a lot of efficient practice in only 24 minutes? I usually take about half that time to warm up
@ChristianLindbergTrombone

Warm up has become almost an adiction for musicians. I had it in the beginning of my study time and it destroyed my dpsciplin completely. I have only one warmup that takes 24 minutes, and I created it in 1980 when I was studying in London. Since then I never need to do any more warmup than that in a day. Best of luck trying it out!

Incredible! Who makes your lunch? And get's the cheese? Isn't it hard to skip dinner after so much work-out in the afternoon?

I have a wonderful wife who makes lunch packages, for this, and also, but sometimes I also cook do it myself. The tea with bread and marmelade keeps me from feeling hungry.

Maestro, I really wish I could talk to you about my music composition project which is heavily infuenced by Rembrandt and Shakespeare and yes very much inspired by You...I truly believe that you would find it most fascinating (I hope I hope)...and that you might also be heartened by the fact that a Frank Sinatra Impersonator considers You his most important Performance Touchstone...
