But it's "good for the economy"! They'll sell so much more bottled water if the tap water is poisonous, and then they can poison all the other ground water until there's a huge water crisis and rake in even more money! Until every single man in a suit across the country is brutally killed in unprecedented water riots and the whole place descends into post-apocalyptic chaos, but eh, what can you do. And why should we create additional jobs disposing of waste in safer, more sustainable ways when we can just create earthquakes under our own homes?^^ ...Sure, politicians love saying "Jobs, jobs, jobs!" but that's just a metaphor for "Screw you all, expendable suckers". we have the same propblem in iceland, but we are drilling for Hot water. to heat our home and Steam to power turbians for electricity. and we pump leftover water back in the ground 500 liters per sek, half a mile down and a small town got like 1500 earthquakes in 1 month the highest 3.5 on richter

Good segment overall, but they transitioned to the NSA video too quickly. They were talking about fracking in Oklahoma but went to the NSA after not completing what was a decent analysis and criticism. I feel like there was so much more potential that they could have taken advantage of and try to convey a more powerful, well-defined message. Unfortunately they didn't really seem to get a message across. They could have proposed that the NSA was making this "educational video" to distract from what they really do, and that this was a complete waste of money. Although judging by that animation they didn't spend too much. Oh well. Even The Daily Show wasn't perfect.

It's not even Discovery the Hitler Channel. It's _Comedy Central_. You're describing a job that +is not Jon's+. 3:53 To answer Jon's question of "why?" It's functionally attributed to the comment "Oklahoma has accepted scientific evidence." If a state is actively admitting that "Big Oil" or anyone of the sort is to blame for something, that's a MASSIVE red flag. It likely means they have no intention of changing things, and have measures in place TO prevent those changes.

The first step in a program to get more info. 1. This "thing" 2. Focus attention on how much paper is being "wasted" by not doing things all electronically 3. Kids start programs to get schools to quit wasting paper with semi-annual audits to see how they "improve" 3.5. Kids are taught at a young age to not write ANYTHING on paper so it is all accessible by NSA - 2 birds, one stone

It should be noted that fracking has in fact, by replacing coal use with natural gas use, done considerable good in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. The earthquakes and stuff are a pretty big problem though.

The report says that the quakes were caused by waste water disposal, not the fracking itself. But throughout the segment the two are treated as equal. The legislation discussed only stops individual cities from banning fracking. It doesn't prevent fracking legislation altogether. What is needed here is regulation, not outright banning. There is nothing inherently wrong with fracking. We need to ensure it's done responsibly. Banning it is ignoring a good cheap source of energy for no reason.

New Yorkers apparently don't realize they live 125-150 miles from PAs NE natural gas fields which have had 2500 horizontal wells safely frac'ed since this video was posted and supplies a plurality of their electricity. The difference is that PA doesn't have the same wastewater injection rates. The answer to why is a mix of reservoir fluids and regulation that's too much to explain in a comment or 8-minute segment. But Jon Stewart is generalizing, oversimplifying, and ultimately confusing people.
