I've always liked the aesthetic, sets and feel of this movie. The London sets and the mine workings are great, they're beautiful dalek props, the saucer is a superb piece of model design , and there are some great names in the cast and it's surprisingly good in terms of pacing. Just forget about your preconceptions based on the originals, get a couple of beers on the go and the Cushing Dalek movies are fun stuff.
If there's one thing that absolutely blows my mind about this, it is that I can't imagine what it must have been like to have been a kid - obsessed with Daleks in the height of their 1960s fame - to see this action (IN COLOUR) in the cinema.
i was 10years old at the time 1966 there was something about the Daleks that was just great for a little boy at that time & seeing them on the big screen inspired the imagination .
As cheesy as this may look, this movie actually had a much bigger budget than the TV series at thew time, and also the fact that it was in colour (the series was in B/W until the 1970 series), made it a sure winner
@@275mtb I agree! The Movie Daleks were way superior to their TV counterparts of the time! In fact, I think they're better than Russell T. Davies modern day "Bronze Daleks!" I don't think the Movie Daleks have ever been bettered! It's odd, because I understand the Movie Daleks were made by Shawcraft Models, who also made the original TV Daleks! ... So, why were they so different? Maybe because of the size difference between a FILM SET and a TV STUDIO? The TV Daleks had to be smaller to fit in the BBC Studio?
0.03 Dalek: Hault. Man: I'm an ambassador for the supreme Chancellor. I'm taking these people to Coruscant. Dalek: Where are you taking them? Man: To Coruscant. Dalek: To Coruscant, Uh, that doesn't compute, oh wait-a, you're under arrest.
If this one was successful, the third movie would adapt The Chase (i.e. the one where Daleks have a primitive time machine and follows the Doctor across various worlds)
0:24 - Dalek "Welcome to McDonalds, can I take your order please?" David: "12 Large Bigmac Meals, 7 with cokes, 3 Fantas, and 2 with Orange Juice, 5 Big Macs on their own, 2 McChicken Sandwiches, 8 donouts, and 3 Apple Pies please." Dalek: "There's a 10 minute wait on the Apple Pies" David: *hurles Dalek down the ramp* *Riot breaks out* Red Dalek: " General alrert! All Daleks to main ramp, we have Millwall fans on the loose... Emergency! Emergency! " 0:30 that double take is brilliant 2:00 "GTA Dalek" - best Dalek get away driver ever.
That comment is more dystopian than the actual film. To think in '66 there were no Macadees, Millwall fans knew how to rein it in and people probably queued politely as easily as breathing... 😭
This film was my first exposure to Dr. Who. I saw it in the early 70's when one of our local stations used run it a lot on Saturday afternoons. Of course that was years before series came to the States.
Way more entertaining (i.e. less fucking stupid) than the first Cushing film. The hilarious fan trailer aside, it's a shame The Chase never got Techniscoped. Then we'd have a classic trilogy.
I believe that they were working on it, "daleks vs mechanoids" I think was the production title, got abandoned in '73 when they ran way over budget and a fair way into the film, you can find the odd scene here and there, just got to know where to look. You might want to check me on that though!
Mark just seemed be reminiscing over how these seemed to be the days where Daleks had plungers. When even now in the new series, they still do. I thought the claws were great as well.
They did intend for the Daleks to have claws in the tv series. But William Hartnell deemed them too dangerous on set (why..? Don’t ask). So they were swapped out for the softer plunger.
Ah, yes. Back in that one point in time when the movies were made and the Daleks of that movie universe had only a light frame coupled with deadly neurotoxin / second hand smoke / steam.
R.E.D. 2150 A.D. they don't use Iris doors anymore. that eliminates the sphincter trouble when Roy Castle gave the Kaled city a colonoscopy by getting stuck in the door.
"Daleks' - Hair Salon Earth 2150 A.D." SILVER DALEK: "Shall we stop the hair dry-ing pro-cess?" RED DALEK: "No, pro-ceed! ... Maxi-mum heat!" SILVER DALEK (to prisoners): "Would you like a coff-ee?"
Makes wonder though, even when the robomen were free of the daleks control what longterm damage was done after the invasion ceased, the doctor was just lucky they could free him before the process had time to complete as for the ones who suffered complete robotisation well...
I have wondered this since I was about nine and what about the partial robotizing on Doctor Who and Tom. In Revelation of the Daleks we see the horrible dalek induced human mutation into a dalek creature. There is definitely a story to be told there in the aftermath.
Just to show how movies have changed, the stabbing in 3:08 was edited out of the televised showing of this when i was a kid because of the violence as well as the knife throwing at 3:42
***** That's something I've always wondered. I mean, Doctor Who was overspending it's budget just when they got round to The Daleks, and they managed to make convincing death rays. Whereas this film, which is presumably on a much bigger budget than the show just use fire extinguishers. It sounds like it should be the other way around.
Russell Tietjen well if you call turning the image negative for a few seconds convincing then i am not sure, maybe they thought it would probably just look cool or something
Well, not just the negative effect, they had this thing where it looks like something is actually coming out of the gun. I mean, obviously the effects got better as time went on, but I prefer the effects from the 60's and early 70's over the fire extinguishers, personally
Its a fun movie but that music is a complete mismatch to footage of people being killed in various gruesome ways! Its like they thought "Hey, its a kids film so let's try to keep the maiming and killing lighthearted guys"
Always found bits of this film quite dark- Robomen weapons appear to burn through people (almost a true laser), and those Dalek foam sprays (some people think they're meant to be close-range gas weapons) always seemed a bit disturbing.
"Exterminate" took a little time to become completely synonymous with the Daleks! You may recall when Ian Chesterton became the first Dalek victim, the Dalek said, "Fire!"
how the hell did the dalek blow up when it hit the bottom of the ram i mean i didnt see a bomb being thrown, i know the daleks were primitive both canonly and in real life but seriosly come on?
How can Daleks be primitive both canonically and in real life, when they dont exist irl....also for one im pretty sure it wasn't scripted to blow up at the bottom but even if it was, who cares makes the scene more interesting....
@WNShadow814 No, this sequence was filmed in studio, not on location. What you actually saw was Peter Cushing (Dr. Who) and Ray Brooks (David), dressed in shiny black Roboman coveralls, disappearing behind a wall just as a Dalek fires its gun. It's true, go and have another look. I'll wait.😀
@@avidviewer67 just as the doctor is running off the dalek on the right is shooting. Look just above his gun where the black wall ends. A car is seen to drive past. It’s quick and easy to miss but it is there. Go and have another look. From 3:56 to 3:59. I’ll wait 😉
@@WNShadow814 I've looked again where you said, WNShadow814, even on full screen, and I'm afraid all I saw was Dr. Who and David disappearing behind the wall in the foreground. Sorry!☹ On the subject of stray vehicles, in the original TV story 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth', a van was clearly visible in the background at one point during a scene set in Trafalgar Square. Unfortunately, it's no good looking this up on the DVD as the vehicle was digitally erased during the story's re-mastering!😖 Fairly useless information, but I thought I'd mention it anyway...😀
Huh? The movies are seperate from the TV show, they're based upon 2 of the original Dalek stories from the first Doctor's era, they're not related to the current ongoing series.
The film did not have the budget to bring to vision what 2150 admightt actualy look set as it is ahead of our current day!! everyone is still wearing 1950s clothing in a 1950s earth!
