It was just a year ago when the Dallas Mavericks were said to be wasting the prime of Luka Doncic's career. Since then, they have not put a foot wrong. / 6manyt Business inquiries: 6Man@wearebv.com
Facts, Klay Thompson’s last game was the worst of his career but you’re high if you think he doesn’t need to be guarded. Recency bias is out of control.
was last season too . i mean from game one when luka found lively- i was like - freaking finally ! (after all star they started winning a lot but they were fun to watch whole season )
Dallas is at their best when they stay true to their name and behave like Mavericks. From missing the playoffs entirely to a Finals berth, nothing has been conventional about this team.
They nor Luka were satisfied with just being a mid playoff team so they missed the playoffs on purpose so they could keep their Lively pick and build their defense into a team that could actually contend. One could only imagine how dangerous the Knicks would have been if the Mavs didn't tank and they ended up with D-Live instead.
Idk why people think Klay is done. Last year was his low but he still shot 39% at volume. That’s above average. He might not be the player he was but Dallas will take someone who can shoot at above average rates giving him some great open looks.
Facts. People like to act like Klay fell off completely like Westbrick while DJJ was some amazing superstar before he went to Dallas. No, Dallas turned DJJ into what he was. Before the Mavs, DJJ was just a 5 ppg scorer that couldn't shoot but happened to be athletic. He wasn't even a starter on most of his previous teams and he's about to be on his 6th different team in only his 9th season.
During a contract year where he was pressing and playing out of rhythm. Now with a new contract, in a new city, one that he hand picked that don’t have the distractions of the coast or even a marina to distract him, I expect Klay to shoot over 40% from 3 and possibly even average 20 again next season as Kyrie will gladly take less shots to gift wrap Klay open looks.
A problem I've noticed with DJJ as a Mavericks fan, so I watched the games, and that was DJJ couldn't really handle physical contact. I think Naji could've helped more in the finals because DJJ couldn't contain Brown being very physical because DJJ has a weaker frame while Naji has a stronger frame, so he's not gonna be easily pushed around like how DJJ was. DJJ is versatile, but he just doesn't have the strength to match with stronger, physical guys. And this an aspect I'm excited to see with Naji to not get pushed around that often.
This is the best point. He doesn’t need to be prime Klay, just better than THJ. I share your worry, in a perfect world Mavs maybe start Grimes for his defense and Klay is like Heat Ray Allen off the bench.
That's the one thing for me aswell, Grimes and Naji were great pickups but if Klay struggles defensively you have some tough decisions to make. Still better at everything than THJ though lmao
Mavs won't have a problem defensively as long as Lively and Gafford are healthy. They will always play the same defense they did last season which is funneling everybody to their bigs. If they are not facing the Celtics or a team that plays like Celtics, then they still be great defensively.
I kept on stressing that Klay will be possibly playing as the 3rd or the 4th scorer for this team unlike Golden State where he was asked to be the second fiddle still. Him being on the floor will immediately raise the Mavs already potent offense and on defense, the Mavs scheme is to funnel all opposing drives to where the help defense is. Next season just got pretty exciting.
i like that some are hyped for klay i mean i get that if u not a mavs fan (or at least GSW fan) i can see why thats the case . i honestly thought they will try get high profile PF ... Siakam or demar or even pg13 but .... 1/ i remember klays last game but i also remember his last 20 . after they benched him he went off 2 / the fact that klay draws a guard(s) is a huge help for kyrie and luka and if they leave him open . welll luka and kye gonna find klay faster then you can count to 1 3 / we have to wait and see to actually form an opinion if his a good fit (but for that price tag id say heck yea worth a shot ) 4/ they most likely gonna need a bit time to glue but thats all good 5/ im super happy mavs management isnt sitting on their hands ( and they could they often do - not mavs i meant management teams in general ) they ether let their solid RPers go without finding replacement (just look at nuggets ) or they just do nothing because "oh well we made the finals we can do it again" sry for long post if u read all that kudos to you . needed to vent
They can laugh at Klay's 0/10 shooting in one game but he is one of the greatest shooter basketball has ever seen and based on history, shooters have a very long shelf life.
People don't realize that Naji, Quentin and Klay can all play great defense. And these people call themselves analysts, just go back and follow Bronny's games like you always do.
The thing I hate about the 0/10 memes is...if he shoots 100 shots he doesn't shoot 4/10 every 10 shots...somehow he is cooked all of a sudden. I'm excited for next season. I think Luka is the best player in the world but tbh I'd be surprised if we win WCF again any time soon.
@@blklivesmatter541 I just think last year if they had Caruso on the floor and not Giddey they win the series against the Mavs last postseason. The main reason we won was because Giddey can't shoot so we switched Lively/Gaff onto Giddey and just left him wide open so Lively/Gaff could help with rim protection and drives. With Caruso who not only is a top 3 wing defender in the league but shoots 40% from 3 I personally think they win that series. Not only that but the only area they struggled all season was rebounding and now they got Hartenstein from the Knicks to solve that issue. That team is going to be so good. Not that the Mavs won't be either as they I feel got much better also I just think that they have what it takes now.
@@anmolalva5991 Negative PJ was good for 3 games and the other 3 combined he only had 29 points so he was good for half of the series and Luka only averaged around 6 FT's a game. If they had Giddey and Hartenstein in that series and our bigs didn't get to just let someone sit open to help on drives to play help defense, get blocks, and grab boards and they actually had to go out to the perimeter to guard Chet IMO OKC wins that series. That is the whole reason they got embarrassed by the C's was because of the 5 out where our bigs didn't get to do what they did all playoffs long and sit in the paint cause KP and Horford both shoot 3's at a good clip.
7:50 not too many guys in the league can do what Grimes does here. He gambles bad and Trey makes him pay; crossover and hits the jets and somehow Grimes still manages a strip on his gather.
This is such great news for the Mavs, so excited for the new season! The only bad thing is that Stephen A. Smith said it was a great move and the Mavs are going to be great with him....he never gets anything right, pretty much what he says happens opposite, particularly when talking about the Mavs (Doncic was crap, Irvine should retire, he had the Mavs losing every playoff series this year etc).
Thanks for the honest take on Josh we still have Exum Aussie Aussie Aussie...As a mavz fan i feel confident will have another chance to get the second 🏆🏆 this season 🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
It's going to be difficult to sleep on the Mavs next season. I love the new pickups and I can't wait to see new schemes, roster combinations and player development!
As a Mavs fan, I am excited for this move. Yes I know Klay struggled last season but he still one of the best shooters in NBA history and that something we desperately needed versus Boston in the finals (alongside actually containing their offense). I hope this works out.
After watching Grimes and Marshall "highlights," i would say they basically upgraded Josh Green with Grimes and Marshall's offense is about 15% better than djj. I think DJJ's lob threat ability is the biggest missing element from their lineup now. I really love DJJ's game so i hope everyone stays healthy late in the season and Mavs can absolutely get back to the finals
Mavs fan here for 3 yrs now, I was sad to see them go but I really like how are getting some really good defenders. The front office has some really good brains, but I will say who’s gonna be the Mavs 3rd offensive guy who can go get a bucket when Luka and Kyrie are sitting? Yes grimes can get some buckets and other players. But the moments with just Kyrie or just Luka in, was rough sometimes offensively. Even with that said, I really see us contending again 🐴
Leveraging the termination of the top-notch player such as Klay Thompson is the wisest decision the Mavs could have done. His catch and shoot plays could greatly complement the phenomenal Kylie-Luka tandem. The Mavs will certainly be a championship contender next season.
1:11 Podz is no slouch with the 3, but for them to double klay and not even consider guarding podz and leaving him WIDE OPEN just shows that even though klay had a "bad" season his gravity alone is superstar level. So with a 3rd person on the floor with immense gravity, it’s gonna make offense a LOT easier for Luka and even maybe unlock Luka's defensive capabilities. We saw just a glimpse of this in the OKC series when PJ was popping off and Kyrie was playing like Kyrie, Luka's defense had a noticeable jump, getting more deflections and steals and we saw what happened in the Finals when Luka had to carry the offense.
The question is not whether Klay can get it done. The question is Luka. Dallas was eliminated in 2024 because Luka crapped out. If Luka will get in better shape, the sky is the limit, because he is an incredible talent and a great competitor. So the question is whether Luka will put in the work, or will he just get fatter?
If they had all their acquisitions even a few months earlier, I think the Boston series could have turned out much different. I am curious to see how this all works out next season. 😊
You left in Klay committing one of the worst travels I have ever seen. That said, I agree. We saw what Klay off the bench could do. Now let's see him with no double teams.
Even at this stage which is all time low, Klay is still a 39% shooter who can carry a huge shooting volume, yes his clutching ability is gone, but playing around Luka all you need is catch and shoot, or to say Mavs don't need Klay to clutch at all, they just need him to be an above average 3D player, which he still is, for that salary is a good trade and considering Klay is a great teammate and a 4 ring champion, such a good deal.
The list of NBA players who can hit 3 threes per game while shooting over 40% on them is about to be only Steph, Klay, Kyrie and maybe Maxey. The Mavs have 2 of those guys and Luka not far behind.
I'm almost positive that no actual coaching staff is ever going to tell their players to leave Klay Thompson open no matter how old or injured he gets. The only ones saying that are people on social media lol.
Klay has a great opportunity to show a lot of folks they were wrong, same for several other Mavs. They need to put in some work to bring it together. They already got a taste going up against Boston. Lively was a rookie!! PJ and Gafford will have a full off season with their new team and will help a lot.
This team only won 50 games with all the injuries and player movement. How can they not win at least 10 more games with PJ and Gafford for 82 full games ? Now factor in a healthy kyrie and Doncic. Lively as a sophomore sharing the center rotation with Gafford... That's 48 minutes of 7 footers blocking shots and catching lobs
Kyrie is the concern. Klay, etc will be great. It's whether Kyrie can stay happy and focused and uninjured. If that's possible then yeah, I'd say they have the 4th best shot at the title. It's a VERY congested top 5 though. That said, if you can get nights where Luka, Kyrie & Klay are all landing their shots you're gonna see some INSANE post-season game scores. That's terrifying. God I just realised when Kyrie retires and he's asked to do his best starting 5 from his career he'll be able to say himself, Lebron, KD, Harden and Luka... That's insane.
I've seen quite a few people focus on Klay's defense for the mavs being bad but they never mentioned Naji or Grimes which imo, are better than Green and perhaps DJJ. Naji's a dawg too.
Can we be honest. If Klay hits 4 3s a game hes already way better than THJ. THJ couldn’t shoot for shit except for 1 game. And then they had to bench his ass down as well
Bro, the Mavericks have Kyrie, Luka Doncic, and Klay, which is three superstars. If Klay is trash this time, it's over for him. And maverick is a must-see this season.🎉
nico is cooking with gas and no one is noticing, ngl i fucking love it, let them slander the mavs all they want, let them slander luka and ky all they want it won't matter what they say once they get smoked on the court
Oh yeah. Klay joining the Mavs isn't a big deal. Oh wait. Does that mean that among the Top 9 players who made the most 3 point made per game since 2021 are Dallas players? Luka, Kyrie and Klay. No big deal. Hehehe! 😁
Let's be really about Klay. He lost his starting role to a rookie. In his final appearance as a Warrior he scored 0 points missing on 10 shots in 32 mins. He can't defend anymore. He would be nice addition coming off the bench on a one year mid level contract.
You all are so wrong about Klay it's hilarious. He shot 39% from 3 on TEN (10!!!) attempts a game, a lot of which were tougher shots than the average role player takes. His defense has taken a step back but he can still hold his own on the wing - it's the smaller guards he struggles with now because of his injuries.
You are pandering, THJ didn’t start and DJJ was stiffing most primary options ALONGSIDE PJ and Gafford/Lively. Starting a late prime Klay next to Kyrie and Luka is a recipe for wear and tear for the defenders they have. Hopefully Klay has a late spark playing in a new environment, but most major outlets will just talk about how the offense will carry.
