Brunson situation was a historic mistake that could have easily been avoided by making an easy decision to extend him. But the front office fucked it up so badly, that I can't praise them at all. Not to mention extending Hardaway long term instead of going after someone like Derozan in 2021. Then going after old McGee instead of Hartenstein. Then trading KP at his lowest value possible (Mavs should have received Gafford or Hachimura and instead they gave up a 2nd round pick).
That is just false. Mavs could have extended him in 2021 offseason and at the beginning of the 2021/2022 season, but didn't want to do it, because they prefered to dangle him as a trade piece instead of having a fantastic contract under control.
@@myrdin9216 memory of jb is warped bc of how good he was in the final months and playoffs that year. When he was eligible for that original 4 year extension he was barely playable against the clippers. He basically skyrocketed in his contract year which was simply unfortunate for cap space but yes did indeed increase his trade value. JB knew this and so chose not to sign any extension at that point since he would continue raising his value through the whole year. The mavs were still fully prepared to meet and discuss a contract with jb but he simply never even came to the meeting with Nico and Cuban. He literally canceled the meeting since he was already set on New York. New York is like his real home and with all the family connections to the Knicks org it’s understandable why he left. I’m tired of people blaming Cuban, nico, jkidd, Luka. JB chose to leave its simple as that. Like I said before if anyone deserves the blame it’s the previous gm who didn’t make JB rookie contract end with him in restricted free agency. But to be fair no one truly believed in jb at the beginning anyways. He was a second round pick. All this to say mainly, nobody wanted to give him that extension in 2021. He hadn’t earned it at that point since he had been straight up unplayable against the clippers in the first series and only OK at best in the second clippers series. With the smaller cap, a huge kp contract, a looming luka super max deal, an expensive THj, Dorian/maxi extensions, they wanted to wait and be sure if they should spend real money. Unfortunately JB became an all star the very next year.
Question: Is J Kidd the right coach for this team? The Mavs actually have a young core that can be modeled around Luka, is there a better coach to do this?
Kidd has his flaws, which last season showed in spades I feel, but his track record for developing young talent, recently especially, shouldn’t be overlooked. I don’t think he’s the best option but he’s the only they’ve already got and he’s shown he can take this team far. His defensive coaching for that WCF run was top-tier.
Still confuse on what they are trying to do. Are they trying to win now or just developing the young players?. What's the point of having Kyrie then? Kyrie is 31yrs old. That means the longer they wait the lesser chance they will get a chip in this Luka-Kyrie window they have. You can't also expect the rookies to contribute right away or rush their development as you said on your previous videos. And yeah, you can't have Josh as who he is now, as your 3rd best player trying to win.
The bigger issue is Kyrie's contract. After next season he could leave with his player option. Unlikeable? Sure. But Kyrie's production is irreplaceable. Our ceiling is the 6th seed. Exum, Jaden, and Lively are the ex-factors
@@myrdin9216 He can't be traded until mid-December. After next season, he has a player option. Teams are going to be reluctant to trade for a $40 million dollar guy who may leave.
@@myrdin9216 The question I must ask you is who's ideal? Luka has already gotten one coach fired, he failed with Kristaps, then failed with Christian Wood. The Mavs are trying, but with so much talent many GREAT players will not win
@@EduardoOliveira-zx9ju Yes, but some teams are going to get desperate and Kyrie is still a fantastic player. KP and Luka looked well together when they could actually play some games, but KP has had a huge injury problem. Wood was fantastic fit on offense, but not on defense. The teams who may get desperate for a star point guard are in my opinion Pelicans, Timberwolves. Wolves would have to give awaya package centered on McDaniels and Gobert. The Pelicans could give Trey Murphy and Dyson Daniels (+CJ probably for the salaries to match), unless they were willing to include Ingram.
Interesting video, and some strange takes... I agree Nicko isnt the "chosen one" right now. BUT Powell/THJ were the 2 guys with the best +/- on the entire team last season. They were not the problem last year... Real live had an influence on his playing time. The Kings didnt want stress with the woke local press, hence why they tryed not to play him. Those off court lies were the reason he was out of the rotation and not even a backup. Point! Yes, Lively is the best Center prospect we had since... ever? BUT he needs time and I belive in an outside shot, when I see it in games. Training shots are not game shots. Does anyone remember the WCS shooting lots of 3's in a gym videos? How did that pan out? If it comes to Powell, yes he shouldnt start, yes he isnt a good PO starter... BUT no, he wasnt the problem in our Big Man rotation last year. He never had a neg NetRtg on the Mavs since Luka's rookie year... never! Not even in the 2022 WCF PO run. His NetRtg was still positive. Makes no sense, but its true. And it was specially true last season, as well as in 2021, when he came off the bench for most of the season!
