@@sparkablizzy9983 alot of people in midland and edenville didn't KNOW that their cities were in potential flood plains, as the government neglected to disclose that information until AFTER the dams broke.
wow i live in whaley bridge uk our dam (ToddBrook Reservoir ) 200 ft from my house started to fail after day of flooding , the spillway started to fail luckily it stooped raining and emergency services managed to pump a lot of water out to make it safe . good luck to all those effected
Excuse me I did a typo. The gates were ordered to stay closed when they should be opened. Blame it on your State Attorney General they filed suit and force that on the owners in a court of law!
Shocking and sad to see. Water is so powerful. My sincere sadness for you guys. 2020 is certainly out to get us humans. So much going on around the world.
Sad to see that...however that's some nice drone footage...What drone are you flying ? And also, how did you get the audio of the water flowing without hearing the drone motors?...Recorded separately and edited?
@Pertinent Prick Yeah, seriously, Robert, seeing the only reason anyone would visit that town is if they had relatives in Sanford or if their vehicle broke down on US 10.
You should look into it from what I hear the State Attorney General ordered that the flood control be kept closed in order to save freshwater mussels from dying during the normal spring drawdown that prepares for flooding since you're a hydrologist you should be able to find out. Normally they drawdown Lakes like this during a spring right?

Jonathan Lange - yes, unfortunately... I know plenty of people up here in the U.P. who are very capable people, and no doubt very many others downstate likewise. BUT - there are too many people in MI who don’t know how to vote for a competent Governor.
The State Attorney General ordered this. The gates were all ordered to stay open in order to protect the freshwater mussels. Really they went to court and sued the damn owners and said you cannot do a spring drawdown in order to protect the dam during flood time! This was done on purpose by court order by the Attorney General of the state of Michigan. Y'all should be suing him hard and fast that person did this to you in order to save a few muscles from dying during the Spring drawdown that happens every year. I am a Democrat I want to bet the man is he can control nature. Kind of sounds like your governor maybe your Governor did this to you in any case the Attorney General works for the governor so your Governor did this to you how do you feel I'd be angry if I was you.
Nope, suing the owner for damages for drawing it down illegally without the proper permits last winter is not the same as suing him to raise the lake level up again. The owner was not concerned about keeping the dam from failing with his draw down he was just avoiding the cost of implementing ice protection measures during the winter.
Altra cosa ricordatevi tutti che con il colpo della gru vi rado al suolo i ponti e le dighe con il colpo del cigno vi teletrasporto e con il colpo del dinosauro sacro vi fossilizzo 🛸👽🛸
Look how aged that power plant is. 60 years old maybe?? This dam could be supplying REAL power to the surrounding communities. Nah, let's burn coal and gas. 🤦🏼
I am praying for you all. We are being tested, let’s try to pass the grade. I know deep down that you are all good and I won’t be disappointed ☹️ Vote 🗳
Both wanted lots of water, they thought , to generate electricity, for profits?! ......they artificially flooded 20 acres of my farm and hundreds more acres of my neighbors land and homes downstream, ho hum, no one fired, just got extra coffee and more donuts!
I noticed that this dam has an uncontrolled emergency spillway across the middle length. It should have been designed two or three feet lower. That would've helped keep the structure. Just a thought.
USACE did the same thing with Wolf Creek Dam, in KY, in Feb 2019, lost their flood reserve capacity, before several huge rains and had to release record amounts of water, they screwed up despite having ample water records of past 70 years!
@@nashvilleslim nice lie there are at least 4 dams in between Wolf Creek and nashville, there will be time to drain old hickory lake so it can catch the flood, it was done when teton dam failed, how young are you
@dknowles60 Why are you so mad and so specificly focused on dams? If you immediately drain Old Hickory and Percy Priest, what happens to Nashville? I also posted this four years ago, bud.
@@nashvilleslim you have learn nothing from the teaton dam failure, if google to hard for you to to handle, is google maps to hard for you to handle Percy Priest is on the stones river , old Hickory is on the Clumber land river wolf creek is also on the Clumber land river i like how people who dont live in the area tell me how things are done. nothing are ok if old hickory can get some water out it would refill from the flood
Nice footage. I live downstream for Midland where all Dow’s pollution is headed and no one is saying anything about it. Can’t wait to see all the fish kills on Saginaw Bay.
Yes @Terry Steelaman That's the whole idea.. The EPA keeps teling the Dam onwer that they need more spillway capacity . Dam owner handled the situaiton by dropping Wixom Lake an extra 7 feet during Winter and Spring time. Wixom Lake Home Owners too Dam owner to court and won a Law suit stopping Dam onwer from lowering the water levels 7 feet. EPA pulled Dam Onwers License to generate electricity in 2018.. Thus they lost their income source to repair dam.. A Local Government Agency was in the 3 year long process to purcahse the Dams and Lake Bottoms they said it would take until 2022 to do surveys studies engineering .. get permits and raise money by raising Property taxes on Home owners..
That's what the Dam owner was trying to do drop the Lake level by 7 feet during the rainy seaons.. Rep Upton, As Usual Government over regulation and total lack of common sense has caused another disaster in MI . Some Dams that were built around 1925 failed . After the EPA revoked a Power Generating License from a Private CO turning over authority to various Government Agencies. Some Local News Agencies have actually done some Investigate research on this matter.. www.mlive.com/news/2020/05/owner-of-failed-dam-state-fought-over-wixom-lake-levels-before-flood.html? Since the Private CO lost their Power Generating Permit in 2018 , It sounds to me like Authority was relinquished to the State of MI I have read articles that say Governor Gretchen Whitmer Thinks that the Government should own and Operate such structures. There was a Local Government Authority in the Process of purchasing the Lake bottoms , dams and electrical power generating Turbines for $9.5 Million Their first concern was how much they can raise Property taxes on Home Owners ect.. They also talked about doing a study that would take until 2022 to get permits to improve the Spillway Structures and Procure a new Private Operator to manage their new source of income Electric sales. The Previous Private Owner tried to lower the Wixom Lake Level by 8 feet to avoid any Spring Rain Flood Disasters. You can look up the Court Documents. www.ourmidland.com/news/article/Boyce-Hydro-Four-Lakes-Task-Force-sign-dam-14947027.php www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/dam-owner-boyce-hydro-state-regulator-egle-spar-over-midland-flood-blame/ar-BB14sjlS?ocid=msedgntp www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2020/05/20/edenville-dam-power-license-revoked-failure-reinforce-structure/5226539002/ Notable by FERC was Edenville's classification as a high hazard dam, meaning its failure could present significant risk to life and property, especially in the downstream village of Sanford, city of Midland and Northwood University. Boyce Hydro had argued to FERC that it had ongoing litigation with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality over gaining permits to construct more spillway capacity. A spillway is essentially an overflow valve, allowing excess water to safely flow around the dam without damaging the structure. Boyce Hydro owns four dams on the Tittabawassee River, which runs southeasterly through mid-Michigan, emptying into the Saginaw River at Saginaw. The three other dams were still creating hydropower at the time of Tuesday's breach. They create Wixom, Sanford, Secord and Smallwood lakes.
Thank you for the video I hope everybody is okay. My question is how do you have sound from your drone ? And if it's a microphone how are you not picking up the props ?
JB Block I use an audio recorder near the thing i want to record, in this case, the river. Also, dji provides the option to record audio onto your ipad when making drone videos.
Like why the fuck won't it stop raining. Apparently there is like a cluster of storm clouds just traveling in a circle around Ohio and probably midwest area as a whole. What the fuuuuuck
So, did it break or what? I hear conflicting reports, but I saw a picture of sanford lake being dry. I know Wixon lake is dry due to the edenville dam failure.
Hi there, my name is Kurt, and I work for NBC News. Did you take this video today at Sanford Lake in Midland County, MI? If so, would it be alright for us to use it on our NBCU platforms/partners? Thanks so much!
Give your life to Jesus Christ the son God and be save the world is coming to an end soon are this are the signs of end times only Jesus Christ can save.there are many disaster coming only Jesus can save you from that disaster give you life to him please say this prayer from your heart and you will be save
That earth dam looks very thin. Also, there are lots of trees around. Why don't they make the dam a lot thicker and plant lots of trees on it? Tree roots are very good at binding soil together. In engineering language, tree roots give the earth some tensile strength and a lot of resistance to shear.
This dam has been in place since 1925. No one could have been expect to design a dam to hold back the water from a 9 inch rain storm, especially this time of year when the rivers and dams are already at high levels. This is also the third of a series of dams to collapse on this river in three days. As each upper stream dam failed in put even more pressure on this one. So, no one is going to jail.
Good idea @gary wheeler since the dams were built in 1925 to provide electricty to the area .. Dig up those Corpses .. or Second go after the Bureaucrats and poloticins that bought the dams in 2018 for $9.5 Million after the EPA Revoved the Operating permits from the Private Compnay that owned.. them Government always knows best.. It's all part of Agenda 21 they don't want any dams anywhere..
@@davidjones-vx9ju The most recent owners kept trying to lower the Lake levels in the Winter Spring ect.. but the new Owners "Government " wanted high levels
Was it worth it.... Fuck those muscles michigan government now u not only put thousands on unemployment that are still waiting now they dont have a house to go back to... Good job michigan government just a line of let downs and tragedy since 2019 glade to be lead by such ass hats in michigan
Nice shots! Work on smoother pan and tilt, or lower your yaw settings in the controller's settings menu for the gimbal. Smoother yaw and camera tilt make for great shots like this!
Do more. Awesome footage. Awesome audio. How close to the churning water can you get? Drop in a gopro on a surf board right before it goes over the damn.
I’ve yet to see such video. There are safe places to stand and watch/film, but it may have been after dark when the surge arrived. It seems to me it was dusk when edensville failed.
@@jacuzzibusguy Did you see the vids from the channel Michigan Drone Services? There are 5 vids there showing the progression of water flowing over the dam. By the fifth vid taken right before sunset the water is flowing over the entire span of the earthen embankment and it has eaten away several holes with other portions barely having any of the original height left. That's about as close of a video to the complete failure that I've seen.
Mother Nature goes where she wants when she does theres no stopping her ..years and years man has tried to contain her essence she just up and throws a fit and moves on.. Truly sorry to those affected in this disaster
It seems to me that these silt-filled dams no longer serve their purpose of helping with floods. It would be much better to let the river flow freely, dredge where appropriate to deepen it in urban áreas, and build barriers along the sides. Keeping old dams is not that good an idea today.
The State Attorney General made a court order that the damn control be closed in order to keep the lake for a level up so that freshwater mussels did not die during the Spring drawdown. This was done by a politician on purpose he should to have the dam closed when it should be open in spring time for a hundred years at work fine
