The dangers of political opportunism, boycott calls and religious vigilantism in the KK Mart issue 

Political opportunism is a tactic used by a politician to gain maximum influence within a short time by pouncing on an issue and hyping them to a frenzy. Mostly political opportunism only harms the rival politician or group. There is no threat to life, health or income of innocent bystanders. The call by one politician to boycott KK Mart has brought serious repercussion to the economic income of the KK Mart workers, their emotional state under duress and threats to their lives by vigilantes. Even though the KK Mart management and owner had apologized and had displayed their apology at all the KK Mart stores, one politician still calls for a boycott. From reports, the KK Mart workers were under stress from some people harassing them in the social media as well as at their working places. From reports also, the KK Mart is losing business and this might affect the workers by not having a job soon and not having any Hari Raya bonus. Finally, there are reports of vigilante groups of Malay Muslim harassing some citizens for their alleged postings insulting Muslims.
