same. I always wanted them to end up together. If you look back at the show you can see the writers were always going to make them end game. Ben only wanted her when she wasn't fat anymore. Danny loved her regardless and was always there for her. I don't understand how people shipped ben and riley.

The problem with this comment is that it gets the dynamic of the show all wrong. The show's problem was that the most popular character turned out to be its least talented actor and its least interesting character (Theler/Danny). I can't believe this was how the show was supposed to be, but clearly much of the audience was attracted to a rich hot guy infatuated with a much more ordinary girl. And so in the fourth season concluded with everyone agreeing that Danny and Riley were the perfect couple. Except this was a fraud: Danny didn't love her at all. He had a crush on her because Riley was the first girl he met, then he forgot about her the minute he saw another girl, and then wanted her because he didn't want his brother to have her. This is a romance where Danny's basic motivation is "If only everyone would recognize I should have Riley without my having to make any effort on my part and without any inconvenience for me. In particular, if only my brother would renounce the woman who is obviously the best person for him and his daughter and instead hope there is a total stranger out there who would be half as good as her. It would also be good if he recognized it was his fault that he did not immediately fulfill my desires which I went to some trouble to hide from him." This isn't romantic at all, it's entitlement. The Ben/Riley relationship worked, or could have worked, because he provided her with confidence and she provided him common sense. By contrast Danny just provided fan service to the show's teeny bopper fans. And now there was a relationship, how was it supposed to work? If the point was that Ben was too immature for Riley, why would she be happier with someone more stupid? So the show came up with a solution: Danny was always right and Riley was an ungrateful witch for disagreeing with him. Yes it ruins Riley's character but it helps the show avoid its great unspoken truth: that Danny is a shallow little pretty boy who has coasted through life on his looks.

@partisan1793 you see Danny was controversial he says he's in love with Riley but sleeps with loads of people but then it's like if the girl you love loves your brother for most of your life there comes a point where you should be able to sleep with whoever you want. His only faults was cowardice in not telling her at all in the first place and of course being a total mommy's boy. But those things made sense. Riley being in love with Ben then knows Danny loves her for a year and says nothing then doesn't commit to Ben then goes for Danny then get mad he slept with someone else in school when she only had feelings for Ben. It was just a total mess of her character and felt like she just enjoyed the power of having both the Wheeler boys love her. She barely got consequences for her cowardice over the voicemail. Tbf Danny barely got consequences either but I understand cowardice more than messing around with two brothers for over a year

I don't get why the writers messed up Rachel and Ross.

I think danny breaking up with her was understandable tbh. She knew how he felt and kept it to herself. He felt used by her. Riley breaking up with danny was so stupid
