I can’t believe you didn’t mention the commercial where Ronald is under the sheets with a child during a sleepover. The commercial was pulled shortly after the the Michael Jackson allegations. That commercial was creepy as hell
the fact that parents blamed mcdonald's for their kid's unhealthy eating is wild. if ur child is overweight and always eating fast food, its the PARENTS FAULT, not the fast food place 😂
There was a McDonald’s right around the corner from my house. We had my 10th bday party at that McDonalds. I was only kid at my party who hoped Ronald wouldn’t show up. He freaked me out so bad but damn I loved the food. When he didn’t show I was so damn happy.
Can I just say the level of research, vetting, editing, script writing and timeline compiling is not ignored and truly impressive. 😮 I did not expect to be so engrossed in a Ronald McDonald horror history, but I literally had to sit down and finish this in one sitting. ✨ Truly impressive journalism here folks
I was never freaked out by Ronald McDonald as a kid. If half the crap I’ve heard that the guys who played him over the years had to go through just for that paycheck is true, then that job is right up there with the Disney mascots in terms of fuckedupedness.
One man who played Ronald was so eaten up by the guilt of knowingly pushing unhealthy food on children and pretending that everything was fine that in his own words, he couldn't do it anymore and just quit.
Me too... And omg how interesting yet freaky as heck. I was born in the 90's and seeing all the old skool MacDonald's commercials for the first time is so creepy...
"There that one kids that sucks at everything she does." Made me spit out my drink lmao. But the Ronald foundation was a blessing for me and my family. If it weren't for them I wouldn't I have been able to see my son in the NICU when he was born. I will always donate to the program.
@@dubuyajay9964 Yes we are! We both died during childbirth and had to be resuscitated and were very blessed that we made it. Now he's just turned One and doing well!
My great uncle, Robert King Moody, was the main first Ronald McDonald for 17 years. I love how creepy and insane the characters are/were- there’s a cool group on Facebook where the guy who made and filmed the commercials ( I can’t remember his name) has uploaded tons of old archive footage of my great uncle and the others messin around or just being weird and silly- it’s rlly cool to see- also some of the other people who played the other characters are in that group and it’s cool to see them all talking about old times and my great uncle who died in 2001 ❤
Willard Scott was the Ronald McDonald in the striped outfit, Ray ranor was the Ronald McDonald with the two golden arches crossed over in the middle on his outfit and the actor who was Ronald McDonald after King moody was the Ronald McDonald with the red zipper pockets
Having grown up with Saturday morning cartoons and Bozo, Ronald McDonald was always "just another clown" to me. I've always thought of clowns as the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing, and I love pet wolves, so there's that, too. 🤣
Maybe you ought to look inside I de yourself. Clowns are creepy. There is no way around it. Millions of children grew up watching the same Sat morning cartoons, but you are some of only a few who are OK with clowns.
Guess I was a strange little kid, because I was terrified of clowns, but I adored the Ronald statues and constantly wanted to sit next to them and hug them lol.
Honestly, I never thought Ronald McDonald was scary as a kid. Now the King from Burger King freaked me out. Man, when I smell the bbq sauce it takes me back to my childhood. I also loved the McDonald’s cash at Christmas. Awesome video.
You mean they *aren't* scary/creepy? I mean, those buggers came out when I was a kid, and even then I knew something was off with how happy and friendly they were *all the friggin' time.* 😀
Honestly Ronald living in the middle of a field not a house is such a power move like he knows nothing is powerful enough to kill him even when he is sleeping
Little known fact, maybe. Stephen king was flying out from Logan International and ended up being seated with a guy dressed as Ronald. The clown proceeded to pop out a cigarette, light it and say “Yer that guy who wrote Carrie. Like yer book. Where ya comin from pal?” King responded, “A book signing. My publishers idea. Where are you coming from?” The clown took a drag and calmly responded. “McDonald Land.” And the idea for pennywise the dancing clown was born, so it is said. Great video, love your work, only like 2.5 min in, but I remembered that from an interview with Mr King a while back and don’t want to get sidetracked. Again, love your work. Really loved the American Psycho piece. You should do Fight Club next.
@@lmads8023Joker doesn’t have powers in the conventional sense per say. I have seen a few RU-vid videos theorize that some of his abilities are: perfect timing, hyper sanity, poison immunity. just to list the ones I have heard. Perfect timing because he always seem to be where he needs to. Hyper sanity in the sense that he knows he’s a comic book character;to explain further it’s theorized the Joker’s insanity has brought him to the point that he might be self aware he’s a comic book character in comic book, I say might as it has never been confirmed. Poison immunity he’s been exposed to so many different poisons and toxins over the years, examples include: his signature laughing gas, his joker toxin, which is liquid form of his laughing gas, ace chemicals. All of which he’s exposed him self to several times with the results being that not one of them has ever killed him or left him with any side effects. I hope this answers your question and that you find it to be informative.
Does anybody else remember the halloween themed chicken mcnugget toys they used to give out around Halloween? They were these little nuggets dressed in costumes like a witch, a ghost,.etc. ao cute
My mom has pretty much EVERY happy meal toy (most in original bags) from the 80s and some from early 90s....I loved those nuggets in costumes!! I can guarantee they are out of the bag cause I'm sure I played with those as a kid...lol
I remember Ronald showed up to my school once. He talked to us about the power of thinking or something. I don't remember. I also had one of those VHS tapes.
I never expected that I would find the history of Ronald McDonald's so interesting & furthermore I didn't expect this to end up on a horror RU-vid channel.
I used to outfit every RMD in the world when I worked for my old company. Truth. Most of the actors/ clowns were wonderful people, just doing their job. The head "Ronald" was a real piece of work. Wigs, shoes, jumpsuits, makeup, plus all of the McDonaldland characters, were my account. It was a crazy job.
The parallels between Stephen Kings clown depictions and McDonald's clown are so eery, the idea of Kings depiction preying on kids and exploiting them are identical to what McDonald's do too.
I worked for McDonald’s in England from 2013-last year and years ago Ronald used to come in once a year to meet the kids for a charity day. I’m not afraid of clowns but I would dread him coming in. Seeing the bright yellow and red shape skipping into the store and into the back near the kitchen was terrifying. It didn’t help his chaperone would awkwardly force you to get pictures with him 😅
Same! Had a few charity Ronald McDonald charity days at the store I worked at circa 1999-1994! Personally i really enjoyed my days workn for the corporation here in the UK! Got some great memories of those happier times!
Wow seeing that clip of the old IT shows why the guy who played the remake PENNYWISE did the eye thing. I feel like the original was him looking around making sure they were alone, where the new one was just something creepy.
Ronald McDonald is a clown and some people have clown phobias. There I just saved everyone 46 minutes of their lives. But seriously, love your videos CZ, started watching you because of Dead Meat and have barely missed a video, love your work dude, keep up the great work.
Funny how no one said they have a clown “phobia” till after watching that stupid IT mini series in the 90’s then a whole generation decided they had one because it was the in thing!
@@werewolflover8636 IT didn't give me a phobia, but that damn clown from Poltergeist nearly did. And I mean the happy, grinning version *before* it went evil.
@@werewolflover8636People have always been creeped out by clowns. John Wayne Gacy(im like.. .. %110 sure he was a good 20ish years before IT came out, i wanna say King even cited him as an inspiration) likely played a huge part in really blowing it up into more mainstream thought, but considering the original clowns were more or less "goofy hobos", and societies have always had a "keep at arms length" attitude with homeless people, i don't think it's that hard to imagine that some kids were likely terrified of the very first clown. Hell, just go to a local mall and watch the Santa thing going on RIGHT NOW! The staff and workers will do everything they can to make it a magical, fun, lovely experience for the kids, amd without fail at least a dozen kids will be screaming and pissing their pants over Santa Claus. The only thing IT made people scared of was the writer who thought a prepubescent gangbang was a good way to show children growing up.
I have a feeling that McDonald’s will make a low budget horror slasher movie with a Ronald McDonald as the slasher of the film, and try doing a McDonald’s Cinematic Universe. It would be so terrifying and Honeslty a bad idea as well.
@@CZsWorldHave you seen Five nights at Freddy's and Wonka? Can you please do an episode of five nights at Freddy's I know there's a lot to cover in the Freddy universe. But can you still do one please? 🥺🥺
He practically spelled it out for you that it's about child trafficking. How can you be so ignorant? Did you watch the video? I hope it never happens to your family. That's is what seems to take place when people don't get it. They have to be shown.
Back in college my health teacher played Super Size me (because she didn’t wanna teach) and the irony is that I was eating from McD in class. I still had fries and my drink to finish off. I had to chuckle. I had little time to eat proper meals so McD’s was my lunch everyday. The stress of me clearly not being ready for college kept my weight down because I was always sick. I ended the year badly underweight and didn’t know until after the year.
I remember being in elementary in like 2011 and being told that Ronald McDonald was coming to our school. There was an assembly and he was actually in the gym and did a bunch of silly tricks, he walked up the bleachers beside me and I remember being a little scared but he was cool af.
I love your channel so much and I'm so scared of clowns, but your commentary makes it less uncomfortable. And I have to say one thing : who in their right mind finds clowns cute and fun and especially this guy?!
38:22 The irony that you're pointing out Ronald being creepy while showing the Family Guy parody scene of my most scariest clown of all time, not just clowns, but anything, the Poltergeist clown doll, that is one scary character, so scary that I don't ever want a prop of it in my house, and this is coming from a guy that owns a Annabelle Doll, which I would declare equally scary, considering that I get an eerie feeling just looking at a picture of the Raggedy Ann doll that Annabelle is based off of, but the Poltergeist clown doll is where I draw the line
[ 40:00 ] MAN i know the creepy clown shenanigans was a wild and scary experience for some, but hearing about it as it was actively going on was crazy lmfao, it was like, seriously bizarre. It happening in 2016, too, while the IT remakes would have had the "27 years later" be IN 2016, I was hoping they'd make a nod to the creepy clown sightings for Pennywise to poke around with, but nahhh. But yeah that was definitely a crazy time period lol
This is probably my favorite "Real" Horror History so far, Amazing intro, then that jab at Jared from Subways, and the video only gets better from there. this is so good
Yuck! I've never eaten at Subway, thevsmell coming from that place is disgusting, thier sauces ate often old and rancid my friend told Mr, she stopped eating there after finding out how long thry keep thier sauces..a burger joint here in nz.. Burgefuel, replace thjet sauces fir fresh ones every week!
The only thing I ever got from Subway was the black olives..I'd get a kebab for a meal then I go yo subway to get some black olives yo put in my kebab.
Hey, good video CZ. I am here to tell you, I was born in 1967, and I swear I NEVER SAW A MOMENT of the whole Ronald media. The only time I thought of MickyD's was when I created my "comedy" character American Hamburgler X.
40:30 I remember talking to someone who admitted to doing the whole creepy clown shtick in 2016. Granted it was no where near as bad in Australia but he said a vast majority only ever aimed to scare and he talked about in some cases after scaring people out on walks when he’d get back to his care he’d try to as subtlety as possible, make sure they ended up okay. He admitted it was a messed up hobby but he’d do it again if it became a thing. A few people from his ‘community’ did actually beat up one guy who attacked a guy walking his dog when they found out who it was because he broke the ‘rules’ it was wild.
32:34 The freemasons run the world & the fake news corporations. They own fast food corporations like McDonalds & they have been grinding up dead kidnapped children & sneaking human meat into the beef to serve it as McDonalds food products for decades without anyone noticing what they have been eating the entire time. Witchcraft was used as an experimental to poison our food supply & add artificial meat flavors in food to where no body would notice that they have been eating dead people the freemasons trafficked & slayed. They also did smuggle human meat through monsanto for decades. The fake news stations & governments won't report on the truth because their owned by the cabal & if people think that there's never been many fast food places serving human meat secretly is clearly kidding & fooling themselves. The satanic rituals are 100% real.
When that incident occurred in Cuernavaca (my town), first versions were that the guy actually died on the spot (heart arrest). I didn't believe it at once, but it was weird to see that the statue was actually removed a couple of days later. It was never replaced.
The McDonalds that I grew up with around '97 '98.... it was the Mecca of all places as a 7/8 year old. 64, Super Nintendo, Sega Genisis, Playstation...not to mention just the set up of the playground. Many a fun times with friends and even just by myself. As I have gotten older, watching that same McDonalds change with time (especially over the past 5 years), to the point they completely tore down the OG and rebuilt it smaller and now it's not even colorful. It's gray and no playground at all. Don't even get me started on the lame kids' meal toys they give out now... Ronald has always been terrifying, though. We also had our own local horror stories about the ballpen. Like a kid jumped in and several snakes were found in it. A kid's body was discovered there....just to name a few.
It wasn't Ronald hidding in the ball pit waiting to drag you down, it was the McDonald's Hobo. Or at least that's what my old man who worked for Burger King used to tell me. He'd say "Son, stay away from McDonald's, they got a hobo living in the ball pit that will snatch you up and eat you."
To be fair super size me was also an awful loaded test. For one he went from being vegan to eating meat and dairy. He also would actively excercise and then just stopped entirely. Not to say McDonalds is healthy by any stretch of the imagination but when you drastically and suddenly change your diet and go from active to entirely sedative in under a day the results are going to be exasperated by your body trying to adjust to a sudden huge change.
That's the worst part. He shot himself in the foot by being so deceptive. If he just ate McD's and still exercised he would still gain weight. He didn't have to be so deceitful about it. In fact, he would've made his point even MORE by showing he STILL gained weight by constantly eat McDonald's even while exercising!
@@dubuyajay9964 A lot of it’s just about calorie intake, if his calorie intake didn’t change he wouldn’t actually gain weight but would absolutely see differences to his blood pressure, stamina etc so still far from healthy. There where just so many more interesting ways he could have gone about it than the extremely dishonest way he did and sadly he was rewarded for it because to many people like sensationalism over honest scientific study.
CZ i really love all of your videos this is honestly one of my favorite ones you’ve made I listen to a lot of videos while I’m working and your knowledge on movies is insane keep up the awesome work man you help me get through the night 😎
Thanks Noah! It was a lot of fun to make. I actually try to make the videos listenable as well as watchable because I like to watch RU-vid when I work too. Thanks so much for the support!
"McKids" was originally a kids clothing store and brand started in the 1980s as a partnership between McDonald's and Sears, so yeah, Ronald McDonald tried to envelope the bodies of children in his proprietary clothing.
CZ! I look forward to your Saturday releases, and you're on a roll! I've always hated Ronald McDonald. Creep. I love your ketchup and mustard motif. Thanks again!!
It's astonishing how attached people get to these advertising mascots. I remember when they retired the Jolly Green Giant. People I knew were acting like it was a death.
This video is soo interesting and sooo flippin scary.. At my nearby centre there is a bench seat out the front of Target (semi close to the food court) with a Ronald MacDonald sitting at the end, and my daughter always has to jump and it on him and say hello.. I wont be thinking its cute and funny anymore 😂😂😂
My first son was born in 1989 so in the early 90s we spent alot of time at McDonald's... It was awesome, you didn't have to cook a meal. You also could eat a meal yourself without having to jump up and down to cater to your kids while your own food went cold... My only negative moment was my son losing his glasses in the ball pit. But that was more our fault for not telling him to take off his glasses.. But no we did not leave the glasses, we were broke so my husband spent about 25 minutes searching the pit until he found his glasses... And also he didn't find anything else in the ball pit either. A funny moment was that on a visit to McDs my son spent a weirdly long amount of time next to the garbage can at the entrance of the playland.... So I went over to my son who was talking to the trashcan... I thought my kid might be "special" until I heard the can talking... Yes they one time had a talking trashcan. We never had problems at McDonald's, it was a fun place to go where the kids could play and the parents could relax.. The toys were fun. I miss the glasses they used to give away. All the negative stuff comes from adults that just love to crap on all things fun... Also it wasn't McDonald's Making kids or anyone else fat. It's a treat like any other restraunt, not meant for everyday. No one "only eats McDonald's", the average American family couldn't afford it, McDonald's isn't cheap anymore. The horror stories about McDonald's or the clown himself are just that, stories... And scary stories are fun. No one bans camping, and look at all the horror stories that are about camping in some creepy woods or campground... Friday the 13th...you never see the mom brigades at campground entrances protesting Jason or the legendary "man with a hook for a hand". Idk why people always ruin things. Halloween candy for example.... It never happened other than the original story which was a man who killed his own child for insurance money. There was no widespread occurances of tainted candy. So he's a little creepy, big deal most kids stuff is creepy... Maybe CZ your next deep dive could be where in the hell did Teddy Ruxpin is today? Is he in a cabin deep in the woods holding Chatty Cathy captive?
Lmao so you know everything that’s ever occurred right? You know exactly what’s a story and what’s real? Because of a google search or the news? 😮 wow. You’re so insightful 😂
@@worldwise2023 why so mean? I'm just sharing what mcds meant through my life. It wasn't anything scary.. And Stephen King is my favorite author. I just mean whenever someone or something is popular there's always someone to twist it and ruin it. You forget my generation went through that alot. I our childhoods and those of our kids. Rock music is evil especially if you listen to it backwards, do you know what happened in the 70s if you tried to listen to Stairway... backwards... You wrecked that diamond tipped needle on your stereo and get yelled at by dad bc it was expensive to replace. Then don't forget satanic panic, and Tipper Gore who tried to take our music away. Mikey dieing of pop rocks and coke. Pokémon cards were satanic too... So yes my generation is cynical bc we lived with all the BS stories. But in spite of those stories McDonald's is all happy stories.. Don't get into the McDonald's shooting in 84,that had nothing to do with the clown. The man who did that was a miserable person who wanted to take out as many people he could before killing himself. And that McDonald's was close to his house. And yes there's usually a little truth these stories come from. Halloween candy is one of those. There had never been a report of tainted candy until that man decided to kill his own to get insurance money like the woman who tainted tylonol to kill her husband for money.. They took others lives to make their intended victim look like a victim to a mad poisoner. But I still have nice memories there at McDonald's. I don't let those other things change that.
i see your point, but as a 99 baby and a product of the early 2000s, that all kids around me ever ate. it didnt matter how expensive it was, the parents constantly took them to mcdonalds. after sports, head to mcdonalds. after a concert, head to mcdonalds. parents brought mcdonalds for kids for lunch. getting to school early, mcdonalds breakfast. my parents never took us out to eat, we live a super healthy life, but my age group not so much. it was fast, it was cheap, there was a playplace to get the kids of their back. its no different from the ipad kids now, parents passing off parenting onto some other corporation or technology. my age group did not like ronald, we thought he was super creepy. im glad youre age group had a good experience, but my age group is seeing the obesity and other effects from it. times have changed indeed, but you only have your pre-2000 perspective to go off of.
@@vonniedemers5683 I apologize for being mean ❤️ I feel you. The satanic panic isn’t really gone though and rightfully so. The kids these days are ramping up the devil stuff in music and in videos times ten. Now it’s almost every genre. If you watch the music videos now you might be appalled. It’s even in the most mundane pop songs.
Even after watching the first quarter, I am still unsure if this is a joke. Edit: He started talking about how Ronald feeds on fear. I think I figured it out now, he is for real.
At a McDonald’s in my city there used to be a Ronald McDonald’s statue who’d sit by the window and I’d always want to sit next to him when I got something to eat. I love Ronald man and after the remodel his statue disappeared….I’m sad he’s gone honestly.
I quit eating Mickey D’s after reading a book called Fast Food Nation in high school, and I later learned about Soylent Green and that just sealed the deal for me. Ronald McDonald always creeped me out as a child even when I was obsessed with Happy Meals. Honestly I just wanted to eat and get a cool toy - and I never liked clowns anyway. They always gave me bad vibes. There’s definitely a dark cult behind McDonald’s, but that’s just my belief.
