There's another obvious reason why the daggers and the other weapons act different. A dagger would be a last ditch weapon, small, able to be carried easily, and upon using it the enemy would disappear, but you would be left without a weapon. If this effect was on an axe for example, it would work on the first enemy, but then you would be left utterly defenceless, and you would have been lugging around this massive weapon for a single kill
@orpheus2644

What if it wasn't for an enemy? Say a Sheikah assassin was discovered before or during a mission, these could also be used as your cyanide pill equivalent, single use, leaves no trace and no way of finding the source. Big yikes.

@@eggbuh I just kept reading the comments and found out some people have similar ideas. One reason for this suicide dagger idea is, they probably were given just one dagger because say the Sheikah was found out by a group of 5 enemies, he is not going to be carrying tons of daggers for every single enemy he could find and even if he used the one on an enemy there's still four other guys to deal with. It is easier to just "die for the mission" than to get captured, tortured and probably revealing the purpose of the mission. It is a really cool and dark theory hopefully BOTW 2 will give some more lore on the specifics of ancient tech.

@Zeltik I thought about this 2 years ago or so. What I thought of was when the dagger makes impact into the target it breaks, and at that time the "battery" of it overloads and all the energy is throw at the target at once thus causing the teleportation. The normal weapons, might not have the same effect simply due to it's size in comparison to the dagger. While it has more damage output the energy thats used it greater, but not enough energy to go "boom." The effectiveness of Sheikah tech against guardians and ganon related things can be one if not both of 2 things; 1: because the sheikah energy overloads like NBC said 2: the sheikah just decimates the malice within. This could be why generic monsters vanish, they're being of malice as opposed to a guardian which is both.
@lilymurphy1001

I thought of them as bombs, which would be why the normal weapons don’t have the same effect and why they’re attached to arrows, if normal ancient weapons had the detonation link would die as well

What an interesting theory. Come to think about it, the fear of the previous king of Hyrule was not just the guardians and the Divine Beasts, but Sheikah assassins as they must have been some of the greatest spies and assassins of the kingdom. Even the One-Hit Obliterator seems to back this up even more as a close ranged lethal weapon from the Sheikah.

This thing came about when devising the "ancient" tier of weaponry. I wanted them to tie into the lore of the Shekiah as a technologically advanced civilization by giving them all kinds of mysterious and inexplicable abilities. The ancient arrows in particular are based on the way Link could combine arrows and bombs in Twilight Princess to make bomb arrows -- they aren't something the Shekiah themselves ever used, but rather are an improvised weapon dreamed up in the buildup to the calamity by affixing ancient daggers to arrows. Eliminating enemies in a single hit at the cost of negating their drops was intended to reflect their "elemental affinity" in a similar fashion to the three elemental arrows. So like in some other games, ancient weapons are a bit like the mysterious implicit fourth element that stands above the others. I think the ancient arrows came about when I noticed that arrows fired in Skyward Sword seemed to travel in a straight line for a fixed distance and *then* drop off into an arc instead of forming a consistent arced trajectory. What's extra cool about this is that the straight line path of the arrows also mirrors the way guardians fire lasers that travel in perfectly straight paths, making it a kind of guardian bow. Likewise, the ancient shields came about when trying to think of ways for the player to combat guardians. Considering the kinds of resources it takes to acquire, the player is most likely beyond needing it by the time they get it, but it's still cool.
@desmondschneider5397
@desmondschneider5397 Год назад
I think the purpose may have been the guardians. We see in Daruk’s diary “Link was appointed after parrying a malfunctioning guardian’s laser.” Maybe the dagger was attached to the arrow to overload the guardian of it was malfunctioning and beyond repair.

“Might the ancient dagger have achieved instant destruction of its target by simply moving them elsewhere, to a remote location, a prison, or another dimension?” Although I agree the “cutting . . . but never pasting” hypothesis is more likely, the idea above could lead to some interesting story and gameplay. You might regret using so many ancient arrows should you have to visit that remote location, prison or dimension.

Mini theory to add on to this a bit, The dagger could've most likely been one use, as it would have had a destination to send them, but it breaks itself on contact most likely, which explains why you cant get the arrow back, and why it implodes when it hits just normal ground or something.
@brandonlovato9319
@brandonlovato9319 3 года назад
Perhaps it did have a destination when teleporting, but during the time that they were not in use, that destination was destroyed so the arrows destroy the target having no where else to go

I feel like the arrows just deconstruct the mosters and espell them outward thus killing them but poses the thought for future Botw where Link has to infiltrate a place where the Yiga (who are ex-shika(I don't know if that is how you spell it but whatever)) have created divices that can absorb and print these mosters back into exsistance. This would bring the thought of while Link is watching a test of one of these things, the experiment goes wrong and creates a hybrid moster. But the malice in these mosters that gets absorbed leaves us with two types of hybird monsters, basic hybrid monsters and malice plated mosters, both of whitch whould retain their color (basic, blue, black, silver, gold). I would love to see a DLC or something like that in a Legend of Zelda game. Who knows maybe it will unlock underwater exploration with a Yiga hideout underwater. ( I hope there is a video about how this mission or series of missions would play out)

What if the enemies that disappear when hit with ancient blue energy do travel to a destination, and the red energy of the blood moon acts as a sort of counter energy to the blue, which Ganon can manipulate in order to bring those enemies back? Or maybe I've just been watching too many of these theories.

The dagger looks like to be held more similar to a gun, in the fact that you hold it forward (if that makes any sense) and the fact that it looks similar to the wrist blade thingy in assassins creed shows that it’s meant to be concealed, and whipped out to preform a quick, painless execution.

I agree with your answer to what the arrows are used for (to simple "get rid" of any result of the calamity and enemy's alike) however I believe that the daggers had a slightly different use(s). The uses that they would have are split into two different uses, (1)- to warp an enemy of the royal to a place of torment (like the shadow temple) to get information or to warp them away but if they simple wanted them away they could use the second use... (2)- it is activated by flipping the hatch on the bottom of the dagger and pull a level and when used on the target both the target and the user are warped out of existence (I got this concussion from the arrow being warp with the enemy alongside the dagger attached to it) in a kamikaze like method (most likely for big targeted enemy's of the royal family) but because it cost a clan member they often didn't use it (and why it's on an arrow now) but still effective nonetheless. But it's just a theory, A GAME THEORY!

mabye it was an early version of the teleporting used by the sheikah. Like you would stab yourself and then teleport wherever you wanted to go. But later they realised that without a destination in mind you would just disappear and the sheikah started using it as a weapon.

I feel like it was more than just an assasination tool, when Zeltik mentioned daggers, my mind immediately thought of throwing knives and if they were throwing knives then it would make it so that they could be useful for more than just close range and assasinations. They may have never used them this way but this idea of them using evaporation knives and throwing them could make the Shieka unstoppable which could have been another factor that led to the kings fear of the Shieka

i may be a bit late but, my personal head cannon is what you were saying about the teleportation without a destination, but they instead get sent to a sort of database/storage that is used for the trial of the sword. and if the enemy isnt used in one of the trials, they do actually get obliterated. just incase that possible explanation helps.

Hi! just found your videos and here is my theory on this, it was meant to be used by assassins, on themselves. hear me out, say a sheikah assassin is trying to kill a noble for plotting a coup de tat against the royal family, should that sheikah assassin blunder and be cornered the noble would know the royals are onto them, by destroying their own body, they destroy any evidence and connections to the royals or sheikah the assassin may of had, as well as the evidence that there was an assassin at all. similar to real life ninja crushing fake teeth filled with poison to avoid being interrogated or naruto ninja destroying their own bodies to avoid the enemy making any sort of use of them.

My own theory is that originally the ancient dagger is just a normal ancient weapon, nothing special to it except it's tiny size. But then Robbie, in his research to study and replicate the teleportation gate, inevitablely found out what happened to things that is 'half' teleported. Being the genius he is, he also figured out how to consistently create that effect, and applied it to ancient weapons. Except since the blade is also deleted, it's ever only good for putting on a arrow, which is what he does, naturally.

It's very likely they were used as throwing knives. It makes sense they are one use projectiles, similar to arrows. Another important thing to mention is that when an enemy disappears you can see a kind of blue mist coming from them. I don't know if this has to do with all sheikah tech in general, but I get the feeling that victims may have their matter dispersed over a large area instead of transported to a specific location. This may be why when Link teleports to somewhere, the streaks coming from him are condensed and refined, showing that his matter is being grouped so that it isn't lost.

I think the effect of the dagger teleporting you out of existence is more of a bug than a feature. It's highly likely that the daggers are designed to teleport the target to any location that has a beacon of sorts to guide the data stream, but that beacon was lost or destroyed ages ago. True, the results would still be a dark tool for a dark purpose, but it makes more sense for such a widespread artifact to be for capture and interrogation, rather than random execution.
@shieldon530

an idea came to me about these arrows. even an enemy who is vanished by their power can still return to the overworld at the blood moon’s height. obviously it makes sense from a game design standpoint but it suggests that the sheikah fell short when they attempted to create something that’s truly on the level of the divine light arrows. they obviously created something super impressive, considering they can damage big pig ganon, but his raw malice is enough to undo the teleporting black hole stuff the arrows do to his minions. or maybe it suggests the exact opposite, since apparently this calamity foe is something they’ve dealt with and fought against for centuries! so we can assume even princesses of the past who had the divine sealing magic couldn’t hold ganon indefinitely, making the ancient arrowhead another form of this sealing power that evil can still outmatch given the right circumstances.

I’m guessing that the arrow/dagger does 2 things, creating a portal to another realm(possibly the sacred realm) and teleporting the enemy into that realm. This explains how larger enemies and objects that can’t be teleported still show the portal when you hit them with the ancient arrow. Because of the portal, the dagger was not a close range weapon, but rather a throwing dagger, since the user could potentially enter into the portal by accident if they are too close. This also explains why link is only given the option to shoot it on an arrow rather than use it as an actual dagger, to prevent him from using it as a melee weapon and accidentally seal himself in another realm.

It being a dagger makes sense. If you had a powerful weapon that could do THAT but it immediately breaks after one use, then making it smaller and thus having less materials makes it somewhat cost efficient than making a whole sword that accomplishes the same thing. You get an abundance of pocket sized delete buttons just in case, and it'll cost way less than a bunch of sword.

In using the dagger at melee range, the user would likely be transported along with the victim. While this could mean it was used for assassinations or as a last resort, allowing an operative to destroy their target at the cost of their own life, that’s not really the Sheikah’s style. They prefer to bring their targets in alive to interrogate, torture and execute them. I think the daggers once DID have a destination, but the receiving platform has since been buried or destroyed. A Sheikah agent would sneak into somewhere, transport themselves and their target to a nearby torture chamber, and extract whatever information they deem necessary before terminating their unwilling informant. But now, centuries later, with no destination, the streaks of information travel inwards instead of out, collapsing the target into a singularity, effectively annihilating them.

Hate To Disappoint You, Lynel Weapons Can't Be Retrieved Using Ancient Arrows. They All Vanish As Well.

One thing you neglected to mention is the blue fog that comes after the the destruction of an enemy, almost as if the matter is being teleported but is then place back in the world as microscopic particles

It would be nice to see in _Age of Calamity_ the Shiekah actually building and creating Guardians, Divine Beasts and weaponry!

I did notice the arrows strange make, but didn’t really question it. But his explanation makes sense. But what about the yiga? They have incredibly similar emblems.

This video got me thinking, if the sheika could make daggers(arrows), swords, chain saw, etc. imagine if we were to get a paraglider made from ancient sheika technology. It would glow just like the weapons but it’s be faster then the original paraglider we have and it could work like an upgrade, kinda like we do in the fairy fountain but you take it to rabbi, and all he would need is ancient parts, maybe even luminous stones and bam new paraglider

The arrow effect kinda looks like a bomb, so it might be that they are teleported, but once they are in the state of the ribbons, a bomb that is more powerful and condensed than any other destroyed the ribbons, destroying the data on that creature.

It’s possible that the arrows only have the ability to obliterate enemies created by malice. Every enemy that can disappear via an ancient arrow is reborn on the rise of the blood moon, thus it is likely the sheikah developed a specialised countermeasure to not only fend off Ganon’s minions but to completely remove the threat instantly. This would also explain why enemies like guardians don’t disappear. My question now is, what do the arrows do to members of the Yiga clan? Since they were once Sheikah or at least descendants of sheikah then the arrows probably shouldn’t destroy them, right? Can someone answer this?

the first time I saw the description for the ancient arrow and read the 'consigned to oblivion in an instant' part, I started to laugh for some reason

On a slightly lighter (though still pretty dark) possibility, it's possible that there was an intended destination for the teleportation at some point in the past (for arrest or interrogation purposes) but that it no longer exists, meaning the lack of teleportation is just that there's no longer a valid endpoint. We'll probably never know.

i was thinking perhaps its more a "double edge" weapon, meaning the user suffers the same fate as his victim, a last ditch tool to take out targets that are deemed too "unreasonable". Maybe that's why it was banished, good people had to sacrifice themselves in the name of good while evil multiplies with each death.

Now that you mention that. That could of been called an Accident dagger of it didn’t attach it to the normal arrow. But whatever the case there still mighty awesome regardless. When I went to the Yiga Clan hideout in my Switch version I had enough to take out the guards without alerting the others whatsoever
