This past summer leauge (2023) he actually played way better he even dropped 27 they first game so the stats u dropped was for the hawks summer leauge.
Stunted Rule #3: if you're an undersized athletic guard - LEARN HOW TO SHOOT! Seriously, all these guys who end up being point guard size but can't shoot, that crazy bounce only take you so far (and it's not very far in the League).
The crazy part y’all don’t even know is that he didn’t have any control over staying in college , you could say he was forced, but Coach Bruce (auburn head coach) told him that he would have to declare for the draft bc of the next upcoming class that was coming into college basketball the year after
His jumpshot is the key reason he isn’t at least on a permanent roster. Everything else offensively is obviously good for a pg. Not being a threat from 3 is basically a death sentence for his size. When you think of the short point guards in the league with similar skill sets they are usually above average shooters that can’t be left open.
exactly at that size it doesn't matter how quick you are doesn't matter how strong your handle is if you don't at least have a respectable shot your better off finding somethin else to do hate to see it cause i love sharife's game he's just gotta do somethin bout that jumper
Seen him play for the Cleveland Charge up close. He's such a small player. I would give him a conservative 5'9, 160. He was very crafty and was able to distribute passes to players with ease. He was so undersized compared to other players on the court and who he was guarding. I honestly believe he would be a great player and fan favorite in China and be able to make millions.
You're underestimating asian basketball way too much.. if he's not on marburry or fredette's level their's no way he can be a great player or even a fan favorite in asia. With his poor shooting, it doesn't matter how athletic he is. He's still a liability on court. Yuki togashi and yuki kawamura will eat this guy alive if he ever sets his foot on B-league.
Being listed at 6'0 is very generous, cuz he's more like 5'9, 5'10 ish up close.. He's been humbled by this for sure, cuz draft boards believed the early hype and had him as a lottery pick before the college season kicked off.. Realized he was ot smaller, and takes too many shots to avg 20 a game in college, didn't make anyone better but he should goto an NBA team like PHX
That’s cap 😂 because the final draft boards days before the draft has rife going in the lottery. After his nba workouts and how well he did that validized his play at auburn and proved he was better shooter than what he shot in college.
18% from the field and 18% from 3 is crazy 💀 Edit: Bro is not 6', no way. I did want us to pick bro but we got Grimes in that draft and he's way better.
Didn’t really see the hype with him… was skilled in high school but didn’t have any elite qualities especially his jump shooting that would warrant someone who’s 5’11-6’0 like him a spot
He had great passing vision and iq he also has an ability to finish through contact with his size only bad part about his game was shooting but it went in which was something that could be fixed, he had a midrange game, he was somewhat shifty, he could handle the ball, he had a amazing change of direction and ability to facilitate
He made nearly 3 threes a game in eybl about 34% which isn’t great but enough to keep the defense on honest that’s honestly high volume for someone who “can’t shoot”
He should've stayed in college like they told him. He could've been a major college star making big money. He could've set himself up for the rest of his life off of just the money he made in college.
Playing only those 12 games inflated his stats and made his shooting percentage look fixable in that short stint stayin another year with his low 3 pt percentage and being undersized would have not made him a better prospect. it would have exposed his inability to shoot
“They” didn’t tell him nothing they all told him go to the leauge. Bruce pearl, The NBA teams that lied and LITERALLY promised to draft him, and I believe his father did too. He wanted to stay but the mentors might’ve failed him
One thing worth mentioning is how awful he played in summer league after his first year in the League. Here's a chance for a kid who's been in the G League to come in and show his team, and other teams, that he's about that work and his shot is fixed and he can smash your lottery picks. So what does he do? Comes in out of shape and is totally unplayable - under 20% FG, almost 3 TOs/gm. He got waived right after that.
@@Papellxhase Nah. High usage low efficiency G League players ain't gonna get NBA clock. Man averaged almost 4 TOs/gm in the G, where people don't play too much defense anyhow. Which is a big red flag. Plus he still can't shoot threes efficiently. Next stop, Europe.
Always thought he was extremely skilled and crafty but that jumper worried me… that’s clearly the biggest knock on his game. He may not bounce byke from here, we’ll see though.
He’s a 5’11 rim runner that isn’t dunking & barely playmakes for others. NBA is not going to pay him when they have their guard situation basically locked in
He wouldbe a Cleveland Cavalier if Craig Porter Jr didnt exist. Im here in CLE and I follow them closely. They love(d) him and he has played great for them when he was the main ballhandler. But in the recent summer league they had CPJ and Emoni Bates on the perimeter. I would bet money he finds an NBA team. The timing has just been off for him so far. I can see him being this era's Nick Van Exel. When he finds the right team that can let him come in as their third PG, he will work his way up to 6th man in 2 to 3 years.
Dudes got great vision and nice handles. If he was 3-6 inches talkers he’d be better than guys in the league. He has heart. Shot and turnovers can be worked on but his creation is solid. Seen him play chandler Kennedy. Both dudes were going at it.. young buck will get something.
The issue is what worked at the high school or college level don’t translate to the NBA. When you go up against players both bigger, stronger and faster than you, a smaller guard needs to rely on long range scoring a lot more. Every successful guard his size either is freakishly athletic (Ja Morant) or has a really good jumpshot (Trae, Curry etc..). His below average three point percentages and inability to penetrate NBA level defenses and his lack of adaptation was his downfall.
Sometimes there support system is just as impatient as they are." Please young people, mature a little physically and mentally, before you make that LIFE changing decision."
He’s the goods and has alot of potential, his mechanics are even sharper now even tho he don’t get tik ,when he gets a coach that believes in him he’s goin be buggin
In the three clips around 11’+ he hogs the ball when there are 4 open shooters to pass to. Poor choices (thanks AAU and high school coaches). Especially when you are 6’ and a buck-fifty soaking wet. The “first rate basketball mind” who drafted him is Landry Fields. It would be awesome if you could get Fields on to explain his thinking.
If a division 1 school gives a recruit a guaranteed 4-year scholarship how does that make the school greedy? Let's say it's the University of Michigan, which is $70,000 a year for a student to attend. A basketball player could blow out his knee and ruin his career in the first game but the college still owes him a top flight education. When these young players listen to the wrong advice and jump into the draft then that's their own personal decision and with that comes personal responsibility if you don't get drafted.
Should’ve stayed in college or went overseas. A sub-6’3 guard who cannot shoot the ball or isn’t a lockdown defender is not gonna last in the modern NBA
People tried to argue with me about this when he was coming in. This dude small and never could shoot. He came out of College to early. He should have stayed and developed his game and body.
Staying probably wouldn’t have done nothing also. The longer you stay, the more likely your draft stock to drop if you was already a projected first round pick.
I agree and disagree at the same time with him leaving Auburn. Agreed it was early for him but I feel a lot of players leave early because they are forced to weather it because of new Freshman recruits coming in or because the NBA has gotten to a point where it’s almost frowned upon the longer you stay. Even if you go on to have a better season you could drop in the draft simply because you aren’t the exciting freshman. This past draft 14 Freshman drafted in the first round and that’s not including Vic, Scoot, or Thompson twins. Compared to 3 sophomores. Once again I’m not saying I disagree with you because I think he absolutely would’ve benefited but I think some of these kids deserve a little leash considering the point I made above.
i agree in today's era timing can be a tricky thing to maneuver if your not a freshman you either go off your sophmore year (ala ja morant) or show marked improvement every year just to have a shot at getting drafted so you definitley make a good point i do think their was enough for him to work on tho that he could have came back as a somphmore with those improments and got drafted much higher
@@johndavis9321 the issue is he didn’t improve in the NBA either so if he didn’t improve on the NBA level, he probably wasn’t going to improve as a sophomore and would have gotten exposed. His jumper was way too slow and unorthodox. Lonzo and Melo have unorthodox jumpshots but they were naturally good shooters to begin with plus they’re 6’6”+ and have quick releases. Sharife had none of that going for him. His stock was high off his RU-vid hype and his somewhat stellar first year at Auburn. I say somewhat stellar because he was able to freelance the whole year and the offense was catered to him because they didn’t have any other playmakers. Those stats were inflated. Had he stayed, his numbers would have decreased and his shooting percentage would have been somewhat similar = Undrafted.
Nah you’re incorrect. Suggs just has more opportunity and he’s bigger. Nothing else. Cooper is playing exceptionally well in g league contrary to all the chatter in the comments. Timing and opportunity is Everything In the league.
As a Heat Fan, they just drafter JJJ. He’s older than most players but him staying in college helped him develop moreso. These kids need to chill out sometime!
This is why High school play needs to stop being empathized. Probably thought he was the man cause he had a big following from it. Nba is a grown man’s league and homie thought he was ready after a good high school year and a dozen college games with almost no hype
Playing only those 12 games inflated his stats and made his shooting percentage look fixable in that short stint stayin another year with his low 3 pt percentage and being undersized would have not made him a better prospect. it would have exposed his inability to shoot
But in your other video (i forgot who the player is) dude didn't make it to the NBA and you said he should declare for the draft after 1 year in college, basically take the opportunity when it present. But now it's completely opposite? So which one is the correct decision. Leaving early or staying? U can't go both way lol
Stuned I am not going to lied you but I’ve seen sharife before and he more like 5’10 with shoes off and 5’11 with them on, where I am 6’0 1/2 and I’m still growing at 20 yrs old, but I do agree that his shooting is really bad.
Sharife should’ve stayed at Auburn for all the years he could. He should go to Europe or Asia and leave the G league. There’s more money, and he’ll get more opportunities to shine.
literally just needed to stay a extra year play with another GA All American go first rd. but he lack self awareness so yea u get drafted to ur hometown team but now u tryna use whatever nepotism u have left joining isaac in cle which i’m not mad at use your resources but he don’t have to feel hell bent on NBA or nothing play overseas get experience bring it back to the states guys gotta learn to run their race the youtube flashy shit cool but they not spending millions on under 6’0 players unless u exceptional like the guys in the league now I said all that to say get a jumper show effort on defense make bread
