Barfky was based on Charles Bukowski's life, not written by him. He was a great poet tho. I think Mickey should have gotten an award for this performance. Someone once said that if he had died after doing "Angel Heart" he would have been the "new" James Dean. The dude has talent in a major way.
Its almost as if he's wearing a mask covering the pretty face he used to have but the change is more extreme than that. Its as if he killed that soft spoken yet intense handsome Mickey and replaced him with someone completely different.

He was born in 1952, even without the plastic surgery you can't compare how he looks today with how he looked before he left Hollywood. So it's a hollywood star that actually looks his age, so what? He's been on earth for 6 decades and was a boxer. In my opinion he looks like the end result of the life he has lived up until this point... nothing strange here.

@devastateurface: People are different and have different reactions to thrauma. Somebody just can't let go and is scarred for life. Other people becomes totally fucked up, and someone else becomes amazingly caring and nice to other people.
you know to anyone with any kind of 'garbage stuffed'... there's a way to rid that, for good and I mean for good. pls don't say, oh no that again. just try it... God can reach those "hard to reach" places and that's usually what it takes.
