Just because you don’t agree with the ATF as a whole, doesn’t make what any given agent did mean any less. I might not agree with the reasons our government sent troops to Iraq/Afghanistan, but I’ll be dammed if I don’t respect every veteran that signed up to fight that war. Leadership might be fucked but there are plenty of good people laying it all on the line to make the world a better place. On a lighter note, it’s awesome how attentive and locked in Jon is with all his guests. Real Ones is awesome and I appreciate every episode
I don't agree with people who don't agree with sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan. For one thing most of those people are reacting to what they are told about Iraq/Afghanistan and not what they know, for another most of those people never served anything but themselves, nevermind putting it on the line for the freedoms and comforts they take for granted. There is always more nuance and detail to a situation than the emotive and reactive kneejerkers would have you believe, and making assumptions with 20/20 hindsight and still failing to see this is just typical of a mind virus way of thinking. Furthermore no one "signed up to fight" those conflicts, they were serving their country and their country called. This might be a small point but it is non-trivial as there is a clear difference morally between someone who joins the military to fight a specific war they believe in and career military who were serving at the time when their country decided to deploy them.
@@TheWarforgedyou couldn’t be anymore wrong dude. I served 04-08 USMC 2/2 fox company. I was an 0341/mortarman I worked with 60 and 81mm mortars. Myself and many others signed up and went infantry to fight; a war we were lied to about by our government for many years.
Worked in a club with an atf agent who used to brag about selling guns on his personal time to make extra money. When I asked him why he laughed and said I’ll take them off the street again eventually anyway.smh
Boy I'm with him all the way on the pension, I did 30 years and want to collect my pension longer than I put in. Excellent episode that hits home for those of us who have done this for a living.
I agree with his opinion about getting the “known trigger pullers” off the street. But disagree that ATF needs more agents to enforce gun laws. I disagree because the ATF routinely overreaches its authority and interprets the actual gun laws much differently than Congress intended when the law was passed. The word “Machine Gun” comes to mind. Also, if anyone is interested in the operation Lou talks about, it was called Operation “Thunderbolt” Lou along with U.S. Attorney Cameron Ippolito allegedly entrapped many defendants and forced them into accepting plea deals which resulted in lengthy prison sentences. Many defendants later received sentence modifications because of the secret extramarital affair the pair carried on. The whole thing was another “Black Eye” for the ATF. The ironic part is that Lou himself mentions that he got to see the really shady parts of the ATF and U.S. Attorneys Office when they were looking to destroy him. News flash Lou, That’s how they always operate!! You just found yourself on the outside looking in for once.
Great Interview Jon!! But in my opinion Alcohol Tobacco Firearms should be the name of a Convenience Store. Not a law enforcement agency. Cliche, I know. Sure, they have their victories and good things they do but thanks to the politicized nature of the leadership at ATF, most agents are heavily involved in violating people’s Constitutional Rights. Specifically the 2nd Amendment. I’m still listening to the interview and I sure hope you ask him about all the guns the ATF gave the Cartels with the so called intent to “track” the guns. Meanwhile they lost track of all of them. Including .50 cal sniper rifles. I believe that only one gun was ever traced to an actual crime. Operation Fast & Furious. What a joke!!
It's wild how deception is used by law enforcement. If you commit a crime on duty with a badge you're good. If you do it as a civilian you are a criminal. The cop admitted some of the people he took down were more loyal than cops. It's a dark thing to say you are going totake 60 years of another persons life and do so with pride. In war there rules of engagement. It should be the same in law. Different rules for different people. One is a civilian and the other a civil servant. How is this right?
I know a few ATF agents that are retired now. Some were good a few were bad. The undercover agent John Rotunno was the best agent I ever worked with on a triple homicide. Before I met him he worked in LA undercover. He thought I had balls, he had balls like grapefruits.
John Looking like a crackhead at 28:32 “can you describe that?!” I also like the saying this dude says “you cannot put the toothpaste back in the tube”
What a great interview. I can’t think of anything I’d rather NOT be is undercover. Yikes! No disrespect to this guy I just could imagine how nerve racking.
@@jacobklassen113 No that is incorrect. Gang is a legal term used to describe a criminal enterprise. Your book club is not a criminal enterprise (probably).
Someone from this show needs to Watch the videos of Christopher Sheahan getting arrested (the full arrest video where he mentions "real ones") He is a giant human, supposedly former Navy seal and the body cam video is hauntingly beautiful- ptsd, steroids, drugs...
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) United States Marshals Service (USMS) Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) U.S. Marshals Service FBI, are just a work around for the posse comitatus act. He may be a "nice" guy but that agency should not exist. Where there is a demand, the market will meet it, anyone who wants a gun, or drugs will get a gun or drugs. We have had 200,0000 dead from fentanyl, and 109 people shot in Chicago over 4th of July. It should ALL be handled at the state level.
@1:19:40 LOL this dude really just can’t help himself from making shit up. Not surprising considering he made his career off entrapping people. just said he went from 250lbs , down to 198lbs, in 2 weeks 😂😂😂😂
clearly you havent lived enough.. 1 way or the other... and yet you watched 1:19:40 minutes of him speak lol quit hating on other men...and these are grown a55 adults
@@seanwilliams4975 Going from 250 LB to 198 LB in a couple weeks is not "making shit up" especially when you're tall dude. Clearly this short little fella has not lived enough to have life experiences that teach this. Dude prob has Napoleon syndrome or just hates his life and bleeds out all over other people (hating on this random dude) instead of handling the pain like a Real Man @DingusDangus42069
And he’s also like this cause his own “guys like him” turned their back on him the same day to the point he thought about killing himself smh honourable bunch by the sounds of it lol
