Nice to see another long time new yorker. My dad was nypd in the 70s and he liked to give me tours of nyc. He’d show me all the spots he’d pulled bodies out of. And over there is where I grabbed a junkie. That’s living w a detective from the 70s.

Being an NYPD Detective in the '70s must have been wild. The '80s maybe even wilder. Yeesh!

Friend had a job with the Sanitation Department. After each deep freeze he would follow a garbage truck going thru the Bowery with a flat-nosed shovel scooping up dead bodies from the previous night's freeze.

The Emerald Inn used to be one of Roseann's hangouts as it's directly across the street. In the movie, a young Tom Berenger played the John Wayne Wilson character and Richard Gere played a love interest. Levar Burton was in the movie, also, as a brother to one of Roseann's students.

I know the Roseanne Quinn story. I saw “Looking for Mr. Goodbar” at the movies in late 1977 when I was 13 years old. I went to see It by myself. For some reason, our neighborhood theatre in Culver City, CA, the Culver Theatre, since renamed the Kirk Douglas Theatre, always let us kids in to see R-rated flicks with no questions. We would walk up there and see whatever we wanted. We saw Jaws there, Saturday Night Fever, Ode to Billy Joe, Up in Smoke, you name it. The Culver (built in 1946) was one of those beautiful old theaters with a freestanding ticket booth out front, a stage with colored light bulbs running across it, velvet seats, and velvet curtains that opened and closed across the screen.

I saw Looking for Mr Goodbar on portuguese television in the mid 80s and remember it to this day. I saw it again recently, it transports you to a more dangerous and gray NYC. There's a book called Closing Time, by Lacey Fosburgh, with a journalistic view of the case, that tells the life story of these two people since their childhood.

Also, fantastic videos. I’m a big history/walking tour/acting buff myself and the fact that you’re putting this out there for free is amazing! It’s also a great way to show people the city that’s not just tourism! My dad and brother are coming up in December, and it’s my brother’s first time in NYC. I’ve binged watched all your videos in preparation. I think one of the best things is that I can show them your channel and they can see parts of New York that they probably won’t have time to do with the first time NYC bucket list. For example they probably won’t want to go to Central Park in late Dec so I sent them your videos to do their homework.

Waz' with the filming of pigeon butts ? They're DURTY FILTHY BOIDS ! Try filming an incoming train from under an elevated station. You'll be cleaning bird poop off yourself and your lens from the aerial schist bombardment for hours while the enamel of your teeth is being corroded from drinking coke. Pro Tip: Use coke, no pepsi, for removing hardened bird droppings on the lens.

One thing that will always stick with me for my entire life was when my sociology teacher explained in great detail how midtown is considered midtown because when the train system was first being implemented there was nothing but projects and farm land above 100th Street.. so because of the farmland and projects they didn't consider that the city or the town.. so therefore midtown is considered midtown and then that started the redlining as time progressed

@@Bachconcertos That's what I hear on the news. I lived in NYC for five years but it was just a few years ago. It didn't seem that bad back then. The worst thing that happened to me was on White Plains Road in the Bronx. A guy ran toward me with a bandana wrapped gun pointed straight at me but fortunately he kept on going. lol I worked in interior design at the time before becoming an artist so I had to travel around the city. One of the design outlets was located in the area I just mentioned. When I went there I would often leave after dark and I had to walk back to catch the train into the city. It was dark and sometimes there was snow and it was a really desolate stretch. Fortunately, I never met up with a perpetrator of any kind because if I had, my screams would have gone unheard ( not that anyone would have come to my rescue) due to the noise of the trains overhead. Looking back on it I took a bit of a chance. I didn't hang out at clubs or bars or stay out late at night. So that might explain some of my good fortune too:-)
