How can people deny that child sacrifice took place, when we know for a fact that ancient people practiced sacrifice of adults, abortion and cannibalism. It's only too logical that some culures practiced child sacrifice too.

Child sacrifice has never stopped

When it comes to the debate of the Child Sacrifice, I think it's important to understand that we have multiple accounts of this happening from multiple cultures. The Israelites talk about child sacrifices to Moloch and Baal by the Pheonicians, or Canaanites as they were called. This god took on the appearance of a great bronze bull. Athenians were forced to pay tribute in the form of Children or youth to the island nation of Crete, a powerhouse at that time. They were likely sacrificed to their gods, and this is where we see the Minotaur myths come into play. It is possible that they adopted many of the Phoenician beliefs. Other Greek cities wrote about child sacrifice in Carthage and later the Romans did the same. If it was just a couple of instances of this, then we could assume that maybe things were being exaggerated or they were being painted negatively. But when we have so many instances of this bull-like god taking youth sacrifices from so many different cultures over such a long period of time, I think it becomes difficult to defend the Phoenicians and it begins to paint a terrible truth about some of their religious ceremonies.

Why don't they establish whether or not there are children buried in the regular cemetery? That would establish something distinctive about the children in the urns. If there are no children buried in the regular cemetery, then it could be a children's cemetery. If there are children buried in the regular cemetery, then these children are specific to something.

I feel so sad for those children..They were betrayed by the very person they should feel most safe with and even now their remains are being tossed around. I understand the importance of knowledge and discoveries, yet I feel so bad about the fact that they're still not resting properly. May their souls are in peace.

Romans often left unwanted babies to the elements. Greek fathers had the right to kill children they deemed to be defective. Even in the Middle Ages infants and children weren’t especially expected to live past childhood. We are lucky in our age to cherish our children and expect them to live past adulthood. The give away for sacrifice is the mixture of lamb or goat bones mixed in with the child’s bones. If it was simply miscarriage or natural death, the pots would contain only human remains.
