Was there on this day as a 17 year old kid wearing a Kiss T shirt (since thrown out) , best band of the lineup. Strokes were shocking and left half way through their set, Metallica were great but these guys were the best for me!
So cool to see this. As I'm in the US, never obviously got to a Big Day Out. Heard of the festival, though, as I was always a fan of Oz rock music.... I gather from this show that the Darkness went over reasonably well over there. They have a lot of that pub rock sound, obviously picked up from their AC/DC influence. And a kick ass drummer. Thanks for posting this, and Peace out to the Oz fans of this band.
I remember sitting home on a Saturday afternoon watching this whole set on Channel V. I think they sent em out in a jet boat at one point as well. So sick.
I was in this crowd, I couldn't see them because i'm short and was packed in, but the energy was amazing and I just had to find out who these guys were!
I was there second row centre it was bloody awesome. They got to the last song and asked us what we wanted to hear so I yelled out Love On The Rocks! And so they played it :)
Legend has it that Aerosmith, AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Queen combined their magical essences into a single sperm, gave it to Brian May who launched into the past from a homemade time travelling phone boof, secretly impregnated a prehistoric dino… and The Darkness burst forth from the dino’s chest. Truth? Urban legend? You be the judge.
