I remember I read about them being the next big thing & how they had mixed elements of Queen/AC DC all in one unique sound. I was on holiday in pembrokeshire sitting in the beer garden & the chef had the window open playing cd's & from the 1st track I guessed it must be them as I had not heard a band like them yet heard all the influences they cited. The chef played the entire album & when it finished he just put it back on again from the start - I was stunned at how good it was & sounded like no other band despite the melting pot of influences!! ( I am a guitar player & musician & guitar teacher) I Put my head through the kitchen window & asked if it was this new band called The Darkness & he showed me the cover & went Yep! Went out & bought the CD there & then on holiday - a total masterpiece from beginning to end - Such A shame it is not acknowledged as such although it does make best top 50 albums lists etc but yes a total classic that will stand the test of time...
Permission to land is such a brilliant album...but this song. It's just awesome. 2020, and still love it as much as in 2004. My new baby will be getting a great lesson in loving Rock 🤘
This was an instant favorite for me. Lyrics are universal. Everyone, at some point, has been moved to “write bad poetry”. One of the best lines of all time!
Man! It just wouldn't be a darkness video without a v cut jumpsuit, with a cape! And a flower crown hehehe. I love these guys so much. I'm sorry I ever took them for granted in my youth.
Takes me back half of my life! We learnt this track with our English teacher from high school when I was 16. Now I'm 32 a's idk why it came back in my head haha Anyway, still so good even this long after (that's always the case with good music, it ages like great wine or cheese ^^) Wish you all a Good Friday and an even better Friday night haha ^^
Friday hits, I start the day with The Cure "Friday im in love" and The Darkness "Friday Night".. no better cure for a shit week. Love you guys, Never Quit!
This song puts me in a good mood. Makes me want to dance around the house. Justin Hawkins is hilarious. He has a funny, childlike playful way about him. He makes me laugh. Charming.
I love when a retro band can immerse themselves in the genuine spirit of the material they're imitating instead of just caricaturing it. It's really rare.
Gabriel Wainio-Théberge Couldn't have put my thoughts into words better. Like most of the new rock (Rival sons, Royal Blood, and the Black keys) Sounds good but it has this strange feeling of being a tribute rather than the the real thing.
That's really a good summation of what The Darkness are about, IMO. They pay tribute while never being a caricature. And hey, they're just an excellect rock band, anyway!
@50Hz PAL Borders Im answering chrisjamesr77 not making my own statement. I KNOW who the Darkness is since 2003 my favorite new band in the last 30 years
I love their early 70‘s Queen influence! Only the Brits are able to do that! Such a fresh album (Permission to Land) in 2003 during the end of the Nu Metal hype and the beginning of „Coldplay-isation“.
Hey you! Do you remember me I used to sit next to you at school We indulged in all the extra-curricular activites We weren't particularly cool Monday cycling Tuesday gymnastics Dancing on a Friday night I got Bridge Club on Wednesday Archery on Thursday Dancing on a Friday night Hey you! Could you ever fall for me The way I fell for you And do you dwell upon the thoughts that I occupy Or do you give yourself things to do? Monday rowing Tuesday badminton Dancing on a Friday night I got ping pong on Wednesday Needlework on Thursday Dancing on a Friday night With you, with you Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday Dancing on a Friday night Let the music smother me Whole weekend recovery Dancing on a Friday night See the lady I adore Dancing on the dancing floor Dancing on a Friday night God, the way she moves me To write bad poetry Dancing on a Friday night With you.
The Darkness. Still putting in great production quality and fun in their videos. For some reason this video reminds me of FRIDAY NIGHT VIDEOS and the excitement I used to get for that show. It was a U.S. show. Look up Friday Night Videos intro. I think it was around before MTV, and just after MTV started.
The Darkness were my favourite band when I was about 10, I loved them so much. This song was on radio 2 today, I always thought it was released as a proper single!
And I thought I'd seen all the old Darkness videos at the time!. This one skipped under the radar!. LOVE IT!. oh for the old unwoke days of the 2000's eh?!.
Joder, si ésta banda no te inyecta buen rollo y diversión... no sabría decir qué lo consigue. Ay!!! Qué buenos momentos, qué cachondeo y energía, bendita nostalgia😆😚🤪😪
I love your music and I really like this song, it's one of my favorites but I would love for you to come back all the originals of the band as Ed Graham is a great drummer and I would love for you all to get together again😀
The sad thing about it was that the band fell apart by 2006, for a number of reasons, but those years were & always had good memories for me and this song was used on a UK Channel 4 TV intro regarding programmes that were on on a Friday night and it was around the time I met my girlfriend, a hot chick who actually threw a little book at Justin Hawkins at a gig (Newcastle City Hall Feb 2003) and he picked it up. She never shut up about that story, I used to laugh at her over it as she was a total smitten fangirl! 😂 Anything that came after 2006 was never the same or had the same effect. It was a point in time when the planets aligned and we got The Darkness, and yet they shone brightly! I'll not forget the memories!
I kinda wish the whole album would have had music videos based off the first one. Just traveling to multiple planets and keeping the whole "rockers in space" theme.
