It's not a parody. Not at all- it's a celebration. The music speaks for itself. They took the music incredibly seriously. It just so happens they have a sense of humour about it. Utterly joyous.
@@dudecheckthisout4460 Justin (the Darkness) hugely Influenced by UK 70''s glam rockers " The Sweet" check " Fox on the Run" ( 74) and you'll see exactly what I mean. Deserves a reaction !!
The band has said they always take the music seriously but not themselves. It is Queen meets ACDC but original and of the same quality. A beautiful template.
I saw them for a live performance that was being recorded. Almost half way through there was a tech error and some of the speakers went out so the filming couldn’t go on, but they stayed and finished the set and encore because, and I quote, they would not be going home early “when there’s babies out there what need rockin’!”. To this day one of the best shows I’ve seen. They are massively talented and just dripping in charisma!
Justin Hawkins is the best! His youtube channel is Justin Hawkins Rides Again. He's smart, kind, and funny as hell. The Darkness drummer is Rufus Taylor son of Queen drummer Roger Taylor.
They always incorporate humour, but it’s not a joke. They’re true students of rock history. They wear their influences on their sleeve, but it’s all love. Furthermore, and I might be wrong on this, but I believe they were the last classic style rock band to break through on a huge scale. Props for the Big Star reference, (although I don’t agree The Darkness sound much like them).
He did sing at the tribute and he will be there tonight as well. I love his you tube channel. He also sang Under Pressure and I think Back in Black. He has a crazy good voice. Very different but I love it. I was watching his vlog before I knew he was a singer. Rufus Taylor was Taylor Hawkins Godson
Justin Hawkins is AMAZING, he was also lead singer for Hot Leg a short lived band when he was on a break from The Darkness which is also incredible. The album Last of Our Kind is really great, I own almost all of The Darkness albums and love them all, they are my favorite band. Saw them in SF during the pandemic. Just as amazing live as on the recordings.
Christmas Time - Don't let the bells end. Sums up the band The Darkness. A great song absolutely loaded with double entendres. Played every Christmas and never fails to make me smile
Such a killer song! I just love these guys. Their songs are "tongue in cheek" but so well done that it's not a parody. You mentioned Big Star who were just so very underrated. My late father-in-law was a music writer & wrote for Rolling Stone in the '70s & '80s (he actually wrote the lead article on Elvis's impact in music & culture on the front page of The Commercial Appeal here in Memphis the day Elvis died) & knew that I played guitar so he introduced me to Alex Chilton of Big Star on several occasions. I knew Big Star bc of their Memphis connections as I grew up less than 90 miles away. Alex was so nice & so freaking cool. The first year was the actual Big Star song & the next few were the Cheap Trick version of the same song on That '70s Show Great reaction & I'm glad I stumbled on it this morning...sorry for the long response 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Justin Hawkins was on the Masked Singer UK. I thought I would die laughing when, after his 2nd or 3rd performance, the panel all agreed the person was definitely not a singer. He took it quite well...lol.
Their videos are inspired by Monty Python. Their influences include AC/DC and Queen. He claimed he and Taylor Hawkins were related - they were pals. Their video for Rock&Roll Deserves to Die is hysterical.
I would probably recommend their song Barbarian if you are looking for their more heavy metal song. They kinda love rock in general so they have the whole package, ballads, glam rock, glam metal, etc... Even though they don't take themselves seriously, you can tell they take their music seriously and are actually technically sound musically.
Reacting to people reacting to videos brought me here. The Darkness passed me by too . . and they come from the town I went to college in. I still hear them each year, 'cos Christmas songs are huge in England at that time of year and they did one. Reaction videos, like yours (which is outstandingly the best reaction BTW), has recently brought The Darkness and I together. I feel we've now formed a long term relationship, and The Darkness will follow me all my days. Thank you!
The Darkness. Powerful musicianship taking the piss out of everyone! Love letter to rock, glam, hair metal, all of it. Check out Gets Yor Hands Off of My Woman.
I rember seeing this in 2003 on mtv at night, it came on right after a Daft Punk video. I was blown away and listend to many other songs by them. Such great music.
Review more songs by The Darkness, and I will subscribe! We all need to hear more The Darkness music! Need suggestions? I recommend Open Fire, Bald, Motorheart...
This album is fantastic.. its the tongue in cheek version of late 70s/80s cheese, but better. Justin is crazy talented.. and watching him play this stuff with the guitar behind his head or with his tongue is hilarious. So underrated as a band. Check out "Get your hands off of my woman MFer" from them lol.
This band can claim to be part of Rock royalty (Pun intended). The drummer Rufus Taylor is the son of Roger Taylor (Drummer of Queen) and the late Taylor Hawkins is his godfather.
The director took homage from the band made original video and they played up the cheesy lyrics and the fact he played a guy being very not masculine at all!!!😂😊😊
Your memory deceives you. "Back in the day" as you put it bands like WASP, Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison, Twisted Sister, Warrant were part of heavy metal. Metallica was thrash metal. Towards the end of the decade disparaging journalists came out with terms like "hair metal", "hard band", "cock rock", "arena rock" to be snide and that's when "hair metal" gained traction in the USA - leading to Tuff to own the term and take away the derisory nature via their song "American Hairband".
I'd lean more towards a glam power band with a lil mix of arena flavor added in lol hell they could be anything they want for all I care, godspeed to these master craftsman of rock 'n' roll
