It might be because I'm in a university bubble, but I'm generally well liked. I'm just too independent to ever really belong at a fun group gathering unless there are people who are willing to talk about topics that are not shallow in nature. That's not necessarily the worlds doing, but rather my own wish. I have a small group of friends that are all quite independent (though not all introverted), so it works well. I generally think the INTP works very well in a university setting. We have a lot of original thoughts/ideas and although we don't usually enjoy it, are very capable of leading other people (I mean, there's kind of the internal dilemma of the enjoyment of having the power vs. having to deal with people that are not always as capable) and often end up being forced into that position for these reasons as well as our perfectionism. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's easy to like us for our originality in thoughts and shouldn't be bothered by the type of people that don't like us, because those people are usually not interesting enough to associate with anyway.

I believe I am one myself as I have scanned through alot of articles from various different platforms and domains and the only explanation I can give is Be yourself, seek the truth and bring havoc to your reality because that is the only way you will make it fit your life. When you let go of falsified thoughts you reach higher conciousness and sure you may lose people and get kicked but this is called evolving/ascending into higher thoughts, feelings and thinking patterns etc, progression strives and always remember our universe before our eyes is shaped by our conciousness. Criticise only what holds you back. (I've edited this a lot in hopes that it will make sense but I want to try to help so I hope I am not too vague or anything)

@-COLOMBIANCHANNEL-TM your comment is stupid. When we say being outsmarted we only mean directly and by our peers. Of course im not the smartest person on earth. But being beaten by someone i know and i regard as less smart than me is humiliating( the good kind, helps staying in touch with reality and reminds you of your place). @-COLOMBIANCHANNEL-TM i am indeed above average. Thats only a logical conclusion. Is it sad ? No. I never thought i was special and id rather have more social skills instead of being a bit above average in intelligence. Anyone can outsmart you given the right circomstances and being overall better than someone at something doesnt mean he wont best you. You clearly lack a greater vision, you are being too simplistic here if you think i'm boasting. My comment was about being more humble and you accuse me of being delusional and arrogant ? @-COLOMBIANCHANNEL-TM ??? I dont understand what you are trying to do. As if anything you said put you anywhere close to outsmarting me. You just started basically repeating what i said before, then make baseless assumptions on my intellect and mental state ; and then deblaterate the obvious about the unknown of the world. And if we are talking about self doubt, i do constantly doubt everything, including my abilities. But testing them over and over shows you conclusions you can rely on long enough to use them before doubting again. I believe im smart. But i constantly put that statement to the test. I am a person who doubts and hates herslef very regularly. You are making baseless assumptions that is all. I think it is you who is showing your pathetic side by reacting the way you do to my statements. You dont know how much ive reaserched just by curiosity about INTP's and MBTI in general to understand if it was reliable or not. You cant be a Ti hero user. Your failure to understand the truth and your sloppy presumptions have taken away any credit you could have. I was genuinely waiting for you to show me you werent as dumb as i thought you were. What a let down. Ps : i was not gonna denigrate your overall spelling, as i am not a native english speaker. And i dont care about the ":" wich could simply be a a typing mistake, something that is inconsequential in a youtube comment. Edit : in case you get the idea, save the critics on the long comment. Accuracy is a trait INTP's have. When i bother to do something, i do it well. Even if it is a comment adressed to a person i judge so far as inferior intellectually.

As an INTP I have the ability to turn emotions off and use words to go for the jugular every time. It is brutal. Saying things that I know will trigger bad emotional responses, while effectively blocking out all the emotional rantings coming at me. I am not proud of it and I am fully aware that I use it as a manipulation tool.
@jeremyponcy7311
@jeremyponcy7311 4 года назад
I have that same inclination. The things I think about saying sometimes are sickening in retrospect. Development of introverted feeling and extraverted thinking are paramount to fixing this. Recognizing and accepting that feeling is a rational function, acknowledging what those feelings are through introverted feeling, sorting them out with your strong introverted thinking and expressing them in a timely fashion when they arise through extroverted thinking is incredibly difficult but incredibly necessary if you want to be able to function successfully in the world. Otherwise you just become cold and dark and alone and all that rational brilliance you value so much will be snuffed out in darkness. I'm speaking from experience.
@AllenLinnenJr

I do the same thing. I find it amusing. I could be making the soundest point in a debate and my opponent will just one wipe their ass with it. Then I drop an insult and suddenly that shit is real. @@vloh3097 It's just about throwing the person off balance, so the better you know them the easier it is. But really, most people are the same so all you have to do is figure out what's bothering them about the conversation you're in and figure out why it does. It is always based on some insecurity they probably don't know they have. Then just use that. I have a friend who literally asked me to stop doing it when I'm upset because she'd rather be punched, so be careful how you use it I guess.

Well I'd say it's because we see conflicts as necessary steps to reach a conclusion but to reach the conclusion you have to have someone to counter you, but since we are methodical thinks we skips the build up and head straight for the left right goodnight lol, but if we can keep our own emotions in check then how can we think of a suitable response so we remove the emotional aspect and it just looks like we go for the throat but really we started from the bottom and cut all the way to the top lol

Idk why people think its cool or desirable to be a genius or have a high IQ.. There is a reason why most geniuses came across as eccentric, to completely insane. The constant urge for knowledge, the dangerous curiosity, continuously learning new things, accompanied by persistent boredom; making it extremely hard to stick with one thing long enough to make it a "career" when your chasing the horizon. The heightened need for stimulation. Feeling socially and emotionally disconnected, regardless of how social you can act, or how many friends you can make. Not holding jobs because they become too redundant, having society try to make you feel stupid because you can't fit the mold even if you tried, then you wonder how so many people can settle and tolerate it. Eventually you will start to break, whether its falling to drug addiction to "shut" everything off, mental illness, psychosis, suicide or homicide etc. Or you will eventually learn to embrace the madness, embrace yourself, and become bold and self assured. Without caring what others think anymore, you may be seen as arrogant, crazy or many more things, but it won't matter, and those that do matter won't think that about you.

It's funny, isn't it? The inspirational quotes became mantras for life over time. Because they're true. I think people want to be “smart” because so much emphasis is placed in things like IQ. Is there anyone else that is INTP that started drifting off into daydreaming about being apart of the dark side only seconds into the video, from all the fictional possibilities of Star Wars to Dexter, then playing out many scenarios in your head and figuring out which is the optimal outcome to your preferred darkside, while also fixing the many logical miscues and holes that doomed said fictional characters or the empire (dark sides) in those stories. Then having to re-watch the video to listen to everything you missed, only to start wondering if your choices would even work, or if you yourself have logical fallacies about your choices to fix those stories and even your own. Then having to go back and finish the second half, only to go off on even more tangents of what he talks about. Then only to wonder while you type this out, was it even worth it to share, and now reflecting as to why I even had the inclination to share my own thoughts in the first place. Alright, I'm going to go now.

Are you sure you're not INTJ? LOL. Nah, I often caught myself in scenarios where I'm a supervillain, like Darth Vader or DIO, and have their respective powers. From there on, I imagine what I would have done to defeat the main character, which generally bests the antagonists. You would be surprised at how powerful villains tend to be... and how easily they could have won by doing the right choice of moves... even if the MC is just as equally effective and smart. This is a pretty reality-disingaging activity though, so it's better to do it during vacation, when you have nothing else to do XD

But yeah, I don't do it just for evil or bad characters, literally any character, comedy, drama, science fiction, I have a hard time not breaking every action or bit of dialogue down, and analyzing it, especially the illogical/irrational nonsense, that stuff drives me up a wall. The crazy thing about myers briggs, is I think there's a little bit of many in each person. You also have to add in environmental factors and molding over the years of life, which can have an effect on the overall personality as a whole. Fascinating stuff at the very least. It is rather bizarre being an INTP as a female teen since I yearn for typical teen interactions, but my areas of interest don't line up with most of my peers' interests. I often find myself copying the behavior of others since my actual aloof personality is, to put it lightly, not agreeable. I'm also aware that, whenever my class and I discuss something that I am passionate about, I tend to hold myself back in fear of being socially rejected since my opinion differs from most mainstream ones:'0

I think you forget the worst of them all: the death of moral As you properly stated, INTPs tend to think of emotions as unpractical annoyances and cast them aside. This gives us a clearer colder rational focus. When, in this "mood", we analyse morality and ethics, it is entirely possible to reach the conclusion that no ethic or moral code is grounded in any logic rather than the propagation of one's genes. And, believe me, once you reach that conclusion, the Ti can get fearlessly pragmatical and consequencialist. Ironically enough, Fe will still make us be kind and worry about close friends. The best description I got from this current state was from a close friend that described me as an iceberg where the top and the very bottom were kindness and the middle was dark and cold.

Thought experiment: The train dilemma... You are on a train along a track that is about to split... If you keep going straight doing nothing, you will kill 1 person. If you flip the switch and swap tracks, you will kill 5 people. Most people would do nothing, in order to do as little damage as possible... They consider this to be the moral choice, the "greater good". INFP rabbit hole: But what even is the greater good? The world is suffering from overpopulation problems, so technically, the greater good would be to flip the switch and kill 5 people, doing as much damage as possible... It might seem cold, but this objectively is the greater good as it contributes to solving a more pressing permanent issue than... The temporary emotional turmoil of multiple families. So yeah, there's a bit of a dark side to INFP's... I wouldn't call it the "death of moral" i would call it "The dark side of morality". xD Making sacrifices for a better future is a common aspect of morality, and a reality we as a species, have to become more used to... otherwise, we won't have a planet much longer, and then we'll all go extinct, which is worse than having a group of people die occasionally... See what i mean? It's not wrong, it's just kinda tough to swallow.

@TheNorth Remembers I've never said being rational means not having feelings. Actually, I pointed out in the iceberg allegory how we, INTPs, may end up having a rational Ti that finds out the logical flaws of moral codes and Fe that still wants to be nice and empathetic to others. And I absolutely never mentioned the word genius... What I said is that, if you take a moral code and you use your Ti on it, an exercise of logic, always asking the why, you will end up with the truth that, unless supported by GOD, morals have no rational support. The closest try to develop a rational proved moral code is the one of JS Mill, but not even his can stand a hard logic argument.

Madao, “overpopulation” is a debatable assumption people have been indoctrinated to believe. So to presume that the death of more people is a good thing is not necessarily correct. God can handle the big questions. Let’s just try to do what He asks us to do and leave the big problems to Him. He will guide each of us to make a wise choice if we let Him. As far as the immediate question about the train, I am adverse to actively causing the death of 5 people. As for the one person whom the train is heading for, I will pray like the dickens for him or her and hope that somehow things will not go as it looks like they will. Who knows what will happen for sure? Nothing is impossible with God. Also, perhaps that one person is a great leader with a good mind and heart and love of God. Perhaps that person could do more to save the world that the other five ever could. If that is the case, saving the one would be the greater good. You do not know everything so do your best in God’s eyes, trust in Him and sleep well at night. 🙂 (ISFP)

Reproduction itself isn't even inherently logical. What is the point? So your genes survive? That doesn't mean shit, you're still dead at the end of the day. Why even want any part of yourself to survive? That's not logic, that's emotion. It's not hard to understand that the most basic and universal ideas of morality and ethics are based on people's individual well-being. All rationality stems from some level of emotion, some sort of sentiment. In the purest sense, the only truly logical concept there is is the functionality of the universe, which we technically may be getting all wrong because there is a possibility that our senses have horribly deceived us in some way. Thus, it would seem to me that instead of the world being divided into the logical and illogical, it could more accurately be divided into different forms of logic- that meaning logic that is used for different purposes. Say a particularly emotional person wants to feel good. They use their logic to find a way to feel good. The thing that makes them happy obviously varies from person to person and from type to type, but the base logic is the same. Different people desire different things, but in the end, it's all based on desire, not some logical necessity. Without some sort of sentiment guiding our logic, there is no purpose for it. There is no purpose for anything unless we give it purpose. Purpose is itself an illogical concept. What people often view as "cold hard logic" is often illogical for the same reasons.

@@traditionalgirl3943 "Madao, “overpopulation” is a debatable assumption people have been indoctrinated to believe." ... No, it's not a debatable issue, there are planetary problems happening world wide right this second, measurable changes in the atmosphere and such, that reduce our planets chances of producing edible crops, building materials, etc etc. Global warming is reducing our planets resources, and our growing population are increasing our need for MORE of said resources... More than our planet can dish out. This is objectively an overpopulation issue... Has nothing to do with indoctrination, you goof. :P "So to presume that the death of more people is a good thing is not necessarily correct." The death of people is a good thing for the planet, humans are an invasive infestation atm, and if we want to survive, we have to actually cull our population. : / "God can handle the big questions." God doesn't exist... Or if a god-like entity does exist, it definitely doesn't give two flying fucks about us or our problems. You think this is a problem only god can solve? That god will handle it if it's necessary? That just seems like a convenient excuse you make to avoid having to grow the fuck up and be responsible for your actions. Let me put it in terms you will understand: When judgement day comes, god will judge you as selfish, irresponsible and self-centered, and send you straight to hell for all eternity, because you were delusional enough (You lied to yourself) to think god would fix all your mistakes and used that delusion (self lie) as an excuse to keep making the same mistake over and over, to avoid growing up. -.-' I grew up with a religious family, and still came out an Atheist... Because as an INTP, i see right through bullshit like cognitive dissonance... I could spot double standards and hypocrisy when i was 6 years old, lmao. Took my grandmother by surprise, several times, when she tried to brainwash me into the religion. Needless to say, she stopped trying to brainwash me when she realized doing so made her doubt her own religion more than it convinced me to believe in it. :P "Nothing is impossible with God." God doesn't actually exist though, he's a fictional character from a book, not a real being. That being said, even if the biblical character of god did exist, he STILL wouldn't lift a finger to help anyone... Because nobody actually gets help from him, the bible states this quite clearly, SEVERAL FUCKING TIMES. For one, humans have free will, and therefore, human decisions and actions are not influenced by god, whatsoever... YOU are solely responsible for every action you make, NO EXCEPTIONS. :P So as far as being religious, you're bad at it, because you don't even understand your own religion. : /

At 3:00 : "the fear of not fitting in gets the better of them" -- when I was about 8 years old, after dinner, we were all watching TV, then suddenly my mother turned it off and asked us to gather in the living room. With a heavy tone, she announced that a good family we knew just had an accident, and one of their children (the age of my little sister) had died. My sisters started to cry and everyone gathered for a group hug. Everyone but me. I couldn't understand what was going on neither why everyone was crying; she died, so what? It did not affect OUR family! Also, all the other kids still had both parents, everything's fine, right? Was I supposed to cry as well? Everyone was crying! So I hugged my parents and pretended to cry. I think I even managed to have some tears. Then everyone let go, and I felt relieved that I did not have to continue this charade. I’m an INTP female and I have been in this paradox my whole life, I don’t want to socialise and just want the whole world to leave me alone yet I yearn to be around people. But I’d prefer to yearn alone and then be with someone. I feel like my dark side grows larger as I get older and there is nothing I can do about it. Now that I think back to all my interactions with other people I realise that a lot of the difficulty stems from the fact that no one accepted me for what I was, I always was and still continuously am pressured to be a certain way, made to feel like I’m dysfunctional, like there is something wrong with me. Am pressured to be more social, to be more of a people pleaser, to care more about people, to be a wife or partner, to have more children. I have 2 daughters and I always wonder how on earth I pulled that off. Honestly my dream is to live on my own in either a sky high apartment where I can watch the sun set everyday and watch all the people below get long with their lives, or on my own in a cabin in the middle of nowhere away from everyone. I am not depressed and I dont hate anyone, I just love being alone. The thought of being in a marriage is unbearable. I have ended friendships and isolated myself from relatives because they would not stop putting pressure on me to find a Lerner. I don’t need anyone else’s validation and I don’t want to serve anyone. Yet society looks down on me for being this way and it breaks my heart that I can’t be accepted for what I am. Funny thing is when SHTF I am usually one of the few or the only one there to help people. We are so misunderstood and the world is so harsh. Luckily my w daughters are ISTP and INFP so we get along well and there is a reasonable level of understanding between us. They too are very introverted and don’t want to socialise.

Sure, many are prone to being this way (you'd know if you watched the video) but it doesn't stop us from putting logic over emotions and being able to see a situation from many different perspectives. We see a lot of the outcomes and consequences of a decision before its made, more than the average person driven by irrationality and emotions.

Honestly that last bit was so true - I recommend that you find yourself a nice introvert who will make you do stuff with them. I say introvert bc most extroverts are so energetic it becomes irritating. Most people are bound to be more outgoing than me even if they are introverts. So, get a few people to adopt you and drag you into stuff and keep an open mind about it. I'm (slowly) learning to and it's great fun.

As an INTP, I loved everything about this. Such an accurate representation of who we are (and who we can become). The thing that hit closest to home was the part at the end about reclusiveness and avoiding situations where we aren't in the driver's seat. I'm finding myself falling into that trap of choosing what's comfortable and easy rather than what encourages growth and progress. Do you have any advice on pragmatic ways that someone could try to alter this behaviour and start "letting life push them around?"

Plan a 2+ week trip doing something you have an interest in. They say it takes 2 weeks to form a habit, so immerse yourself in a completely different way of life. Have a friend in a different country? Ask if you can visit for an extended period of time. Don't do touristy stuff. You will learn more, and have better memories if you live like the locals. Is there an activity that you're interested in, but have no experience doing it? Jump in the deep end, and figure things out after. I never knew how to sail. So I joined a crew going from Florida to Michigan. It started out scary. I questioned what the hell I was doing for a few days on the boat, but I couldn't run away back home to safety. I had invested time and money. Then my normal habits began to disappear. I met a lot of interesting people. I began learning more than I thought I would, and became a vital member of that crew.

Not gonna lie, when I get bored, it's either I study or I question my very existence(which is usually what I do) and it kind of leads me to feeling inferior, and I lose all motivation to study, and I become very insecure and start questioning my knowledge, which to be honest, will get my engines working and motivating me to study. I mean that's just me, and that's how I help myself. Another way I help myself is isolating myself from people and not talking to them for a week or 2. Is that normal for intp's? Meditation, therapy, chance meetings and studying myers brigs has made me realize that especially for my type, inaction and over-thinking is a dangerous drug. Even an interesting, philosophical conversation with a cashier can bring a spark alight. Or if you say something that cheers someone else up. An interesting way to think about a capitalist society is to view it as natural selection. The business best suited to it's environment (providing for needs like food and gas, or having the best fashion trends available, or the latest model of technology) gets to survive and proliferate. Less fit business (out of touch with public interest, overpriced, low quality, etc) fade out and could eventually die. Like Blockbuster, while Netflix is so famous there are literal memes designed solely for it. This tends to create the "fittest" and wealthiest societies because only the best business survive and get to pass on their quality to the population within public affordability. Whereas communist societies actually end up subsidizing shitty businesses the same as quality ones because they want everything to be fair. Therefore, the ambition and incentive to improve due to businesses competing is non-existent. Business become stagnant and rigid. Whereas in capitalist systems, constant competition breeds the best products. However, natural selection works by using selection factors to weed out unfavorable traits. Constant competition can keep the marketplace fair by forcing everyone to be evolving all the time. But when a monopoly emerges, it can function as an invasive species. Dominating the environment and ultimately destroying it and themselves. That's why governments can act as the selection factor of change. Forcing the environment to change with anti-trust laws and making sure the environment is in constant flux to ensure monopolies don't arise. And that's why I believe in capitalism, but still with a fair bit of government regulation. Thoughts?
@madelinereyes3631
@madelinereyes3631 4 года назад
@@starwarfan8342 You're amazing! No one can ever have good conversations with me :(. But I agree. We need standard regulations. For example, the Food and Drugs Act made society safer and businesses better in the long run because we would've discovered how disgusting food businesses were eventually. I definitely do not agree with communism because that doesn't breed good work ethics. If I'm working my butt off and my coworker isn't doing anything then we still get paid the same amount which makes absolutely no sense. Communism SOUNDS good, but only on paper. No communist country has been successful. Whereas capitalism has made way for healthy competition. Businesses have to stay on their feet to be the best, get the customers and get the money. I do agree that the government needs to be that selection factor of change. Business cannot be laissez faire because people will take advantage of that, in turn ruining the economy.

That's why I hate being in my situation, caught up on a journey that feels like I'm going nowhere. I'm officially a recluse, which is not my true nature...but is this way because of where I am in life. This dream feels more like a nightmare & is being used to keep me polarized. It has literally been suffocating my personal development. But I can't change it right now so I guess it's the sacrifice I make for now, but something has to give asap. Plus, b/c of this plus some really other horrible things that occured on this journey has totally made me unmotivated. What was once interesting feels like a drag.

Thank you so much for your videos. I have been trying to watch CS Joseph and his content is amazing but for some reason your approach is so much easier to understand. Thank you for helping me understand other ppl. I find other ppl to be very mysterious and I am constantly trying to work out why they act the way they do.

My friends find me creepy when playing games because I “learn like a computer” . They say that I get better with ever game and eventually beat them going from losing every time to winning every time within 5 or 6 games. So I never really care for the losses because I know that learned about their playing style. My brain maps their way automatically. I know that I will put smart then eventually so I often don’t mind losing the first few rounds.

Once, when asked in an interview, I was asked both, "what is your greatest strength and weakness... I said "my perfectionism" it is truly a value and character flaw. I personally admire the intellectual superiority - even when its casted by shadows of making others feel stupid. The truth is, for the most part e/intps in my life are always valid, and because I dont have low self esteem, I can laugh and agree. I feel like the point blank bluntness is refreshing. An intj or istj on the other hand, in my life ..have razor sharp tongues that can hurt, and not always with the same validity, that combined with further stubbornness of how accurate and correct they are, gives a different flavor. As for isolation, I can resonate with that, my Ni can keep me locked indoors and away from the world for extended periods of time. Happily. But i believe the isolation comes from a different place then intps ...Good video Nathan. As always.

Very interesting! I’m an ENTP who looks very much like an INTP on a superficial level (Introverted, quiet) but it was interesting to see each type’s inner conflict broken down. Behind the squishy exterior, there can lie a real disdain for the emotive, and that’s a huge oversight. What I would say to INTPs is, don’t underestimate the feelers and sensors. Figure out what they want and how that could affect you and your plans. Show them the face they want to see. Now I need to get back to trying not to underestimate the details and succumb to hypochondria.

As an intp, sensors are fine, we need some people to keep us from going too wild. Hell, istps technically are as logical as us so respect on that front. Feelers are little bitches though.

@@Ignasimp funny, my dad is also an istp and while he isn't a doctor or anything, he kinda has that intp quality of knowing a little bit of everything, except in his case it's through experience and it's mostly useful stuff like geography or fixing things, while i learn by watching videos on youtube. Am I the only INTP here who always cares about emotions? I am good at both science and psychology, and I understand people pretty well, although I tend to understand people in the logical way. I feel extremely sad at the loss of family and friends, and can be in pretty long relationships, even though I always prioritize logic over emotions. I often think of the logically best way to improve emotional things.

If you look at it as being "outsmarted" your perception of smartness is the egos game, if thats the paradigm then ideas, theroies and conversations is not about representing reality the most accurate but about attaching your ego to BEING the one representing reality the most accurate. If you wanna take "smartness" to its peak then this game of egos is essential to lay of.
