THE DARTMOOR WAY | Wild Camping Dartmoor | Hiking Trails UK
I had been so excited to do some Dartmoor wild camping for so long, and experience hiking along The Dartmoor Way, but after hearing about the Dartmoor wild camping ban I had so many questions! I would be hiking the trail with some members of my Officially Smashed It hiking club, so as I wasn’t alone I wanted to make sure our trip would be as stress free as possible.
Is it legal to wild camp on Dartmoor? I checked out the official website at
www.dartmoor.gov.uk to check and found the map of the permissive wild camping areas we could use along the trail.
How long is The Dartmoor Way? The original route is 108 miles, however we were doing The High Moor link circular which crosses the moors, so our trail would be 90 miles long. We planned to start and finish the loop in Oakehampton, as it had the best public transport links for us all.
Dartmoor National Park is simply stunning! Join us on our adventure as we discover this magical hiking trail and enjoy the thrills and spills of wild camping UK.

Never heard of this route before to be honest and watched this over 3 separate days, with it being a biggie. It was a shame about Danni and what a boggy old trail it was in places and you are not alone in not liking walking past cows. It looked a real fun group, despite the inclement weather and Steve's back playing him up - good old Martin! Some lovely villages on this walk and always nice to have an outdoors pint at the pub. Nice to see you getting some sun but sorry to hear you had been so ill - what a mare! Part two sounds challenging and I see you are killing more hiking partners lol, cheers Alan

Yes!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I literally have this tendency to kill them off! …. All part of my evil master plan mwah ha ha!! Hope your fully recovered and fighting fit again! I’ve been swept up with work and birthday holidays but I’m looking fwd to catching up with your goth weekend adventure!

Yay we have you back on out screens, be gone winter! Shame about Danni, but its nice to see Steve, Devon, Matt and Martin with you. Great feature that you can identify permissible areas to wild camp. “This is the way” Matt, morning tipple! Very early in the year for hikes, they are more playful when they are first let out too. I just got back from doing a variation of the Dartmoor Way (starting in Ivybridge, heading straight north up the 2 Moors Way to Chagford, then taking the western half of Dartmoor Way back down to Ivybridge). The Hiiker app was absolutely essential; the purple trail markers come and go, and are often ambiguous. There was also more pavement walking than these videos show; nothing unpleasant, mainly just country lanes, and pedestrian/bike paths, especially coming in and out of Tavistock. The open moors were a bit bleak and spooky, but that was more due to the weather. The woodland bits were fantastic.

😁 on my way upto Dumfries and Galloway Kerry but had to tune in and watch this Dartmoor adventure, which was left on a cliff hanger.. Sorry to see you became ill on the trail and hope you soon bounced back 🤗x Great video, loved it Kez .. p.s my car looks like the returns department at go outdoors 🤣 shambles and took everything, including the kitchen sink 🤣 not as many snacks as you though.. The sample packs are now £6.99. Also the full price items are astronomical. £200 for 60 servings . It does save you money in the long term but I wouldn't want to eat the same thing day after day and too expensive to buy more than one at a time. But thank you for advertising it as its always great to find new trail food xx

It's horrid to come down with a tummy bug on the trail! I wonder if we're more susceptible when we're pushing our bodies? Might be a good idea to build in a couple of contingency days for the Cape Wrath so you can take a rest day or two if needed

Shame you took bad, i hope you recovered quickly. What happened with the Salewa Litetrek ??? I was hoping to hear how you got on with it because i bought the Pro version which i really like but its just me and it would be a tight squeeze for 2 but its well made and pitches mega quick and its not an inner first which i really like too. It would be interesting to know what you thought ATB

Hi 😃😃😃 I recovered quickly, the litetrek is awesome but my new one is much lighter, so I manage better with it on the longer hikes x I highly recommend the salewa though it’s like a tank in high winds and bad weather … has always been spot on x I hope you get on ok with yours!
