In this video, we unbox the Lenovo ThinkPad P15 Mobile Workstation. Thank you to Lenovo & NVIDIA for sending this my way. More data science projects on the way soon!!
Tech specs:
- Intel Core i9 processor
- NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 GPU (16 gb)
- 128 GB DDR4 ram (4 x 32 GB)
- 2 TB SSD
- 4K OLED Display (15")
Hoping to make some videos on deep learning/computer vision projects with this machine. Also would like to compare a laptop like this to using a PC or using a machine in the cloud.

Great video! I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T15g which is a twin of P15 and it's an impressive machine, it's a beast! I chose it because of its upgradability options (128 GB TB, up to 2 TB SSD M2 NVMe), it's pretty fast. I use it for my daily work, web programming and running several virtual machines at the same time, it's awesome! Keep up your great work!

Hi Keith! Was hoping you could do a video on using TPU's and converting data into TF Records etc! Maybe if you could take a look at the Petals to the Metal competition on Kaggle? Classifying flowers using a dataset with images and labels of over 100 unique flowers. Would be forever grateful!!!

I want to learn data science but I have not afford for purchasing the course. How I do and start the data scientist journey? How much time to learn this field. What I know? Python programming basic with matplotlib, numpy, seaborn, pandas, In Statistics mean, median, mode, and std, outlier, missing value. Why I learn data scientist? What is the keyboard travel? 1.8mm or 1.5mm or other? How does it compare to your T450s (which looks to have taller keys) or the P15s/P15v and/or earlier P5x models? Some reviewers have complained about the shallow travel and hollowness in the lower left area on the P15 Gen 1 compared to the P53.

Thanks Keith for this initial unboxing upload. I own the P1 Gen3 model, which costs close to A$7,000. The 4K screen is definitely a great asset, but the fans are so loud and almost constantly running. Is that the case with your P15?

Yeah the fan noise has been noticeable. For things like casually browsing the internet, they aren't going too much. For more involved tasks though it is a pretty constant purr. I still need to test it for longer to have a more conclusive opinion, but given all its power I think a tradeoff is still that it will be noisier than other laptops.

@@KeithGalli Thank you Keith, I had hoped that the somewhat thicker P15 would feature a less compromising cooling system, but this does not seem to be the case. I might have bought a Porsche when I really only needed a much less powerful and quieter car.

How is the OLED display? Are the dots obvious or do you really have to stick your face in the screen? Overall impression on the display would be appreciated. This is really the only point holding me back from ordering one.

So I wouldn't say I'm a screen expert, but I have been happy with it so far. I would say if I'm lounging around with the machine on my lap and pretty close to my face I can notice the dots a bit. If I'm sitting in a more standard position with the computer on my desk I don't notice those same details. With the 4K videos I've watched so far, I've been really impressed by the color quality. Hope this helps a bit.

Just to warn.. my old HP 64GB i7 laptop was so heavy, it took up all handluggage weight. I had to hold it in my arms during check-in to avoid being moaned at.

Thank you for the heads up! Yeah definitely heavy and I'll have to be smart if I am flying with this machine. Luckily I have a big backpack so it fits in that so most of my daily movement shouldnt be too bad.

@@KeithGalli some airlines accept laptops as separate weight from the rest of hand luggage which makes it easier to have a separate small laptop bag alongside the regular carry on bag I would take onboard.
