I don’t know if your seals ended up leaking or not but You push the metal shim in against the bearing cap side, as listed on page EM-17 of my FSM, not against the block Watching this and double checking with the service manual while I’m working to get mine in and caught that just for anybody watching this in the future. Oil seal flat side goes against the main cap, with a slight coating of RTV, and do the same to the block and cap surfaces around the seal groove. Not too much or you’ll be cleaning up for much longer and you don’t want to mess with bearing cap sitting flush with the block And then after the cap is on, the metal shim goes behind the oil seal against the cap and the flat side of the seal. Pushing the seal up against the block and along with the RTV sealing it up. Beveled edge goes towards the seal.
