@@billy28 What's the difference between "pop groups" and "bands"?? Regardless of the music genre ("pop" or otherwise), music "groups" are "bands", and vice versa...SMH
Love the beat and the stomping sound this is one of the Greatest British groups of the 60's. Love Mike Smith's voice so strong and distinctive so clean looking
* Mike Smith great lead singer & Lenny Davidson capable lead guitar but rest of band mediocre and enhanced by studio musicians. They lip synched on TV and never did live concerts. ♣
jennifur sun. I agree Mike had a great voice. Personally I think the best voice in 60's rock 'n' roll was Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere & The Raiders. Just my opinion
Snuck into one of their afternoon rehearsals when I was a kid. The security guard kept kicking us out, and we would find a way back in. Finally Dave Clark told him to let us stay because they were rehearsing a new song, and needed to try it out on an audience! One of the highlights from my childhood!
im only 19 and i just got listening to this song and i dont know what kind of song is this? looks like they are happy singing and do music too.. its really not my type ... anybody can give me old songs? i just wanna listen
My earliest childhood memory was stomping my feet to this song in front of a B/W tv, i was about 3 years old, use to love the foot stomping part my mum says lol.
thats right - under rated and a good rock voice - but yuck for the band he was in - - pop fury NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE BEATLES - C'MON - One of the worse groups ever -a flash in the pan - just Beatle copiers - like other groups H Hermits for example .. - most songs Clark wrote went nowhere - they sucked - oh and D Clark just about the worse drummers of all time - he must have had one or two drum lessons - maybe ? .... he sure liked those little triplets breaks - almost in every song they did - and the songs you don't hear on the rest of their ALBUMS - so unknown - unplayed - unremembered - I hated them then - and still hate them now . being a real musician that I am - most musicians laugh at them . . . .
This song came out 10 years before I was born & I never heard it until I was 37, more than making up for lost time, I had it played on the nonstop oldies on Steve Wright show last week. Love it !!!
Well, the reason I am here, I asked my wife politely to pick me up some cashews at the grocer. She did and brought home 373 grams/26 ounces in a jar. I looked at her and asked, I don't rate whole cashews? and she replied, All they had were 'bits and pieces', so here I am, reliving my youth with the DC5, one of the very first albums I bought. Thanks!
Lovely story. I won a DC5 'Bits and Pieces' 45 single at our local school's grade 7 Spot Dance. I wonder whether spot dances still go on or if the young kids even know what a spot dance is.
I HAVE TO MAKE A COMMENT, I AM 43 AND THIS BAND WAS A BIG INSPIRATION TO ME GROWING UP, THANKS TO MY MUM R. I. P. AND BIG SHOUT OUT TO MY DAD. 💚💛🌷🌺🌸🌼💮💐🌹💜💙. Thank you for the music.
Thanks for this. The Collective Stomping on the wooden stage Totally rocks in addition to Their Choreographed Moves as They played. Short, but a musical masterpiece, indeed. I was 6 years old when this came out. I never got to see Them perform on TV. Thanks, again.
Was reading about Bob Dylan and somehow I got here! Loved this so much. I loved DC5 and Manfred Mann back in the day, Was a HUGE fan. Ahhhhhhh!!!! 60s music - THE BEST EVER. This youtube is pretty clunky - but lots of fun.
Dave Clark was only talented in scamming people. He was an average drummer who used studio musician Bobby Graham for his recordings and never wrote a song in his life
A Top 5 hit for The Dave Clark Five in May 1964. Though they made their mark, I feel that they could never get out of the shadow of The Beatles. I remember my cousins had this in their record collection.
he was yes = good voice .... but NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE BEATLES - C'MON - One of the worse groups ever -a flash in the pan - just Beatle copiers - like other groups H Hermits for example .. - most songs Clark wrote went nowhere - they sucked - oh and D Clark just about the worse drummers of all time - he must have had one or two drum lessons - maybe ? .... he sure liked those little triplets breaks - almost in every song they did - and the songs you don't hear on the rest of their ALBUMS - so unknown - unplayed - unremembered - I hated them then - and still hate them now . being a real musician that I am - most musicians laugh at them . . . .
I saw "Mike Smith's Rock Engine" several years ago on their last show before he went back to Spain and had his tragic accident. MSRE had the same instrumentation as the DC 5 and played all their hits plus Mike's solo stuff. They were freaking incredible. His voice was EXACTLY like it was back in the day. They did 'Bits and Pieces' as the last song and the place went ape-shit. It's one thing to hear the record but seeing them explode in my face was something I'll never forget. RIP, Mike.
Mike was the ONLY musician in the band . The rest were just decoys looking like fools. You will not find ONE video of the DC5 playing live. They were on Sullivan 18 times , lip synced everything, every time…
The "Buttering" style he used was one that not many could master. He was a master at it. Dave Clark was a damn good drummer. He didn't get the credit he deserved. Sad that so many criticize him.
@@donnachandler171 he was your so right back in those days.l really dig him.l was 15 at the time watch him perform live in Toronto at musslemans Lake...
This record was removed from the juke box in a coffee bar I used to frequent back in the day in Ilfracombe. The owner was fed up with people banging the tables in time with the beat. Spoil sport! Brilliant era to have grown up in.
I think most people realized that Mike Smith the keyboardist was the lead vocalist. Dave Clark was a show biz impresario at a young age. He created the band, the songs, and managed its business, so he could do as he pleased. Mike Smith did all right by Dave Clark.
***** The certainly did Bill - the Beatles were so versatile because of the combination of Lennon & McCartney and later George with his own style. I think Lennon gave the band that sharp edge that perhaps DC5 didn't have ...
This song used to get a lot of air time in the Pacific northwest. I think the tune was way ahead of its time. I still love it and that lead singers raspy voice!
Wayne Welsh, thank you. I read from more than one source that DC was not a member. I was a teenager decades ago and have believed the incorrect info. Thank you. Love their music.
