The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I am 76 years of age. In my opinion, no band could do a song better than the Searchrrs. Their songs were done almost to the point of perfection. LOVE POTION #9 and Needles And Pins were great in the 60s and are still great today. Great sound!!!

I agree. The Searchers and The Hollies put me in mind of each other, considerably. I can't help but wonder if The Searchers took a que from The Seekers, or vice versa, for their group names. The Seekers, my favorite group, I know were from Australia, but first had their hits in England. Not sure, at this time, which group was the earlier of the two.

They were short because there was limited time on top 40 radio and lots of records to be played. Extended versions of later years were album cuts. It's true that some extended versions were played on the radio like Safety Dance for example. The Wall and Nights Without Satin were better in the 4 minute version. The long versions just included shouting , sound effects and extended instrumental segments.

Live! Thanks! I was listening to the Searchers in 1963 when I was stationed in Germany. Same goes for the Beatles and everyone else who later made up the British Invasion beginning in 1964. Songs that had charted in 1963 were released in America in 1964 by these groups and they had great success. Searchers are one of my favorite groups.

@@johnminehan1148 Yes. Been back three times. Once in 1992 with my wife on my bike and then in 1998 and 2015 alone, on my bike. Each time I met our unit interpreter and had a good catch up. He passed away aged 95 shortly after my last visit. Hobart Barracks, is now a shell and it's sad to see the state of the buildings. I used to visit 3rd RHA and 200 Signal Sqns corporals mess when they had a 'do' on. Plenty of laughter and good music. Best years of my life. Unlike my school days but the Searchers/Beatles music at that time helped!!
