He also won the french open the next year at only 17. Nadal is definitely quite the early bloomer... and unlike some others who peaked at 17, 20, and are a one slam wonder, he continued winning for many many years after that and became even better. Incredible player.
7:25 "A moment you would've expected that an inexperience player perhaps having lost his break of serve to be a little bit cautions but not Nadal,He's even more agressive" and the rest is history.
@@rt0935 unless you have followed the growing up period of both the players. Gasquet was a big name as a junior player. Just google his feats before commenting.
Such is the privilege of living in the era of all 3 🐐. They push each other to heights no other man will reach in a very, very long time. Makes Rafa's 21st all the more special
Moya was 27 years old while Nadal was 16 , while Alcaraz was 18 & Nadal 35 when they met in Indiana Wells 2022 , everything was in Alcaraz favor ( His is a bit older than Nadal 03 and Nadal older by 9 years than Moya in 03 ) yet he lost. Nadal a legendary Athletic.
People should stop comparing Alcarez to Nadal. He hasn't earned that clout by a long shot. Plus, it's not fair to the young fellow, he hasn't won anything to put him in the conversation with any of the Big Three
@@lexingtonconcord8751 doesnt matter his tennis is technically better, the competition is higher and this is 20 years ago , nowadays tennis players biohack their whole body and can play for years more at their peak so what used to feel 35 is more like a 30 probably due to science.
Everything was in Alcaraz favor? Really? Going at only 18 years old against Nadal, an all time great who, while not in his absolute prime anymore, is still competitive enough to win TWO grand slams in 2022? How is that even comparable to young Nadal, on his way to winning just about everything, beating a guy who had won ONE single grand slam, five years before? I'm not saying Moya is a nobody but it's just a lot less of a stretch for young Nadal to beat Moya than for young Alcaraz to beat Nadal. Time will come, Alcaraz is great but give the kid a few years to really develop his tennis, he has the potential but he also still has things to improve...
It is crazy to think that this kid went and won 13 French Open titles and still has been beaten by only 2 players in 17 years till now. Update : 14 French Open titles as of 2022. Unreal !!
@@daviddavis7665 Definitely true. In the 4 years he didn't win, 2009 beaten by Soderling, 2015 and 2021 by Djokovic, 2016 he withdrew mid tournament due to injury.
What blue clay king 😂😂 They played once and there was problems not because of the clay but because it was managed unproperly and thus changed the properties of the clay itself. Reality is that Nadal is the best in clay, no argument here.
@@shoWbitz I think you've never watched tennis, is that possible? The main thing is to say something to make Nadal and Djokovic look bad, but idk it's your opinion. Or better, maybe you're just sad that Rafa and Djokovic are better than Federer and you just can't admit it...
His family raised him like that. They taught him humility above all. He was much more shy before this. When he won matches as a kid aged 13 he almost seemed apologetic of all the attention on him. Oh my heart can't take his purity sometimes.
Ranked at 5 (behind Moya) at this time was a Swiss player that has also began an a big career at this time. Congrats, Rafa, for 21 (so far) Grand Slam titles! Not long til RG 2022. Vamos, Rafa!
0:19 I love the drop shot of first point. In Japan,it is called"親の顔より見たドロップショット". After this match, Moya felt Nadal a genius. I'm glad to see this match in high quality. thank you.
I remember watching Nadal play a match when he was 14 or 15. He was bludgeoning every single ball. He was obviously very raw still and I think he lost the match but I remember thinking I had never seen such aggressive hitting of the ball.
Amazing skills. Just look at his footwork. He’s the best mover in the history of the game. Always at the right place. El Matador. My most favorite player. He is a treasure that transcends all sports.
20 years later, So Rafa, tell us what you think of this 16 years old kid: Rafa: “I came. I saw. I conquered”. Uncle Tony: “He got the assigment correctly”. Me: BEASTMODE!! Love you Rafa!!! You’re the GOAT in my book!!
@@sup9542 Don't think so. His main surface was Clay. Not bad on hard courts though (australian open finalist, masters cup finalist, us open semi finalist...)
It’s so interstate that young nadal’s forehand really looks like the lefty version of Moya’s forehand. You can also notice the younger Federer’s forehand and serve have a little bit of Sampras influence in them
It was a nice match, Moya played nice in first set, second set was a good test to prove Nadal tests any top players mental fitness too. Indeed this was the match which made me like/love/follow Nadal. He still remains the only one I admire, awesome talent 👏😍
Watching his spirit and mental game at 16years old already so strong old I can say that his career was expected now. The best athlete for me with pure love for the game.
He plays so similar to today. He could be the one winning AO last weekend. Maybe he was not able to finish some 'easy' points near the net, but has the same reactions and strategy.
