Saint Elizabeth of Portugal ? One of the miracles attributed to her is the “miracle of the roses”. After the king had discovered she was leaving the palace to take food to the poor he forbade her to do it. He threatened to lock her up and confine her to the palace. She never gave up and every day she was still leaving behind the king’s back. One day in the winter time she was carrying pieces of bread hidden in her dress. The King saw her going out and stopped her asking, “What you are carrying?” She answered, “Roses, my lord.” He didn’t believe because it was winter. He asked her to show him the roses. Obediently she unfolded the dress and there were roses instead of bread.

I have to say I always enjoy the interactions between Stephanie and her mother, Isabelle, from conversations right down to facial expressions. Always, behind it all, one sees the loving bonds that exist one to the other. Both are sharp leaders and strong-willed, Isabelle in an open and forthright manner while Stephanie follows a quieter but equally resolute path. To me they are both delightful souls deserving of great respect for their lifelong accomplishments… and for their current roles in preserving and carrying on with the all-consuming jobs they have chosen to be entrusted with, that is, maintaining the highest possible standards for the Chateau’s renovation and daily operations. Keep on doing what you’re doing, both of you, as you see best.

I heard that after Prince Philip’s death the Queen had specifically asked that no one in the family use ‘Lilibet’ anymore as this was Prince Philip’s special pet name for her and he was the last one in the family to use that name? It was first used by her Grandfather King George V when Queen Elizabeth was a toddler and couldn’t pronounce her name properly and was also used by close members of her family.

To my knowledge, that was a name given to her in infancy, but I didn't realize that it was prohibited, particularly since Harry and Megan used it for their daughter. However, if not Lilibet, then how about Bowes-Lion, Regina or simply Elizabeth? x

the statue could be Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia. she was a princess. legend has it that she secretly brought bread to the poor. her husband had forbidden her to do this. once he spotted her. but when he looked into the apron, there were only flowers in it.

We have the exact same legend in Portugal with our queen Isabel de Aragão, wife of king D. Diniz (13th century)! It is so curious that they even have the same name Isabel/Elisabeth!

The unusual and exotic foods and gifts brought by the patreons look like a really good feast! I agree with your aunt. My peppers are always stuffed with left-over meat loaf. The last pieces are usually incorporated into pasta sauce....and....I use only pork in my meat loafs. Cheers and thank you...the videos are always noteworthy.

Chantal has topped her style level with that blue and white top! It was completely stunning on her. I really enjoyed meeting and talking with all of the LaLanders when I was fortunate enough to attend one of the Patron Days and bonus … stay for two nights. I relate so much nothing worse than finding a fully soaked cold wet sponge in the sink first thing in the morning. Makes me want to take it and throw it at the culprit sometimes haha. Atleast with only two people in the house I always know whos the culprit.

Such a lovely after the event day. So, comfortable and cosy; full of bonhomie and friendship. As for a name for the deranged looking chicken, you could call her Dotty. By the way I am so glad you have wisterias. Such a wonderful flower. I can smell them almost: that soporific, honey scented smell of summer. I can hear the bees buzzing in them too. Ah, that smell, that sound - a good chateau needs them.
