The gaming community has learned absolutely nothing.

There needs to be more class action lawsuits against unscrupulous developers who cobble together just enough to fool people into spending their money

If you have to tell people it's not a scam, more than likely it's a scam

You know a quality developer when they have a ton of unpaid ‘volunteers’ working for them.

You know what's even more disturbing? There's actually a fanbase that's adamantly defending this game; it's scary how gullible and naive some people can be. Edit: Fntastic, the dev company for this game, announced they're shutting down. If that ain't the heist of the year, I don't know anymore lmao 💀💀

The fact they even claimed they didn't use pre-made assets. The city from the game is a 300$ asset from the Unreal Marketplace. This whole game, apart from (maybe) the items, is an asset flip.

The funny thing is when the game crashes it’s under the name “UE Survival Game” not The Day Before, which coincides with the game being a complete Unreal Engine asset flip

I think there needs to be some false advertisement laws on gaming. Scams like this game are happening way too often.

It's actually kinda impressive that the industry kept topping the worst game ever released this year for like 5 times.

The gaming industry has attracted a criminal element, no doubt in my mind. Not sure how they're operating within it, but I guarantee it's there.

These guys are king procrastinators. 2 years left = We got plenty of time 1 year left = Meh, still got tons of time 6 months = We'll start soon 3 months = I guess we should start planning tomorrow 1 day left = fuck, uhm, put some assets together from the unreal store. The game will look so fresh.

I think for some of us, Aliens: Colonial Marines was the wakeup call, when it came to bullshots and vertical slices. With this coming out of nowhere with all these features and gameplay, from a dev who had already pulled a couple "cut and run" scams with other games, it was a SERIOUS red flag to those of us who got burned before.

UPDATE - The entire studio behind the game has announced it is now closing.

Saw the game when it was introduced, saw the studio name, took a five minute look at their history and started to laugh at anyone who took this crap seriously.

It's insane how 2023 has had some of the best game releases in a year and simultaneously some of the worst.

If this is an MMO that it claims to be, I'm waiting for Josh Strife Hayes to to make an episode of Worst MMO Ever out of this. He may have just found what he was looking for.

The moderators on Discord actually aren't part of the development team, they are volunteers. They themselves admitted they never saw the gameplay of the game until everyone else did.

Best part about this, the "developers" have been known to abandon their games within a couple of months after release.

Muta, when they straight up said they couldn't make the game as it is in all the trailers and when they LITERALLY HAD TO ASK US TO NOT CALL IT SCAM, I feel like that was kind of indicative of what we were going to get

I love how the fact the devs didn’t take anyone’s money is true until 3 days after they posted that message when the game came out, when they got $40 per player. Downright scummy behaviour

The thing about having the "give it a year or two to get better" mentality is that it normalizes half baked, underdelivered, releases and lets companies rely on post-launch patches to finish development which is why games like Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3 feel so ahead of the curve; they ship out a game which actually works as advertised and meets expectations (even exceeding) from players.

The reality of it is they never had a game. They had a few vertical slices of something they intended to use to sell their other "games". It became popular and they had to scramble to put something, anything, together, and this is the best they could do in the 1 year. I hope they get sued, but at a minimum people should contact their government rep. for false advertising and fraudulent business practices.

The tinnitus inducing ALARMS in this game, make me want to sue the company for hearing damage.

I've seen some streamers defend the game, saying it gets too much backlash. Their justification is "Its an early access, an early access in this state is pretty good". Now this may hold some truth. But honestly, the history of the game studio and their current effort put into the game just screams scam. The backlash should come as hard as possible, not a single coin should be given to game developers such as these.

I blame a lot of gamers for stuff like this. They wishlist and pre-order games that are clearly showing signs of trouble. And then when the inevitable happens, they dare to act shocked. I remember how many CDPR fanboys were relentlessly defending the company for bamboozling so many people. The industry will only get away with whatever gamers allow them to. This game was suspect from the beginning but some people refused to open their eyes.

I'm dumbfounded at the fact people still paid for this game after the years of drama and speculation and numerous red flags. Us gamers are truly brain- dead aye?

There was so much lying and deception during the development of this game (which I've followed loosely) I never expected anything more then a shitstorm when/if this ever came out.

I played an extraction shooter called 'Marauders' (cost me £20). Was loving the post WW2 aesthetics in space, but as soon as I jump in, I was just eradicated. When I suggested a single player mode for small-time loot, I was ridiculed... Months later, they release a single player mode. Can't give a crap now though. Major or Independent. Developers need to step up

You know its a good zombie game, when headshotting a zombie does nothing

The funny thing about the Watch Dog early gameplay is that the settings for the better graphics actually exist in the games file and can be modded in. Ubisoft should have just left them in the PC version and they would have avoided most of the controversy.

I think a PvPvE zombie survival game set in a big city like NY or Chicago with accessible interiors and multi-level structures would be AWESOME. Like the vibe of the first division trailer but add zombies in and it could definitely pop off. Hopefully a developer can take this concept and make a genuine, honest attempt at it.

If i remember right, this is the studio that released the trailer for this game, few months later, released a Prop Hunt clone game, while talking about how it was a side project for the studio.

We've had some massive bangers like BG3 and Alan wake 2, tears of the kingdom... and we've gotten some real big stinkers like the day before, gollum, kong... perfectly balanced as all things should be

What really confuses me is why would they lie about the game? People will refund it the second they see that it doesn’t look or play like the trailers. Plus, people knew the game looked shady a while ago. They couldn’t have made much money off of it, and they are probably going to lose more of lawsuits are on the way. Or just going bankrupt because they can’t keep the company afloat because people aren’t buying their terrible game. These aren’t the days of seeing something on a shelf on GameStop and buying it blind. Almost every game you see has reviews on the same page you purchase it.

As a gamer. Im proud to say ive never bought any of those scam games.

Just play the division series, truly a good pve experience. Especially Division 1, omg the ambience and environment is god tier.

My favorite thing is when devs be like: “This is a brand new game you have never seen before!” And it s a freaking generic shooter. -.- looking at you, game awards. They have the same problem with CGI trailers It is disappointing but I hope people learn their lesson. I learned my lesson with Cyberpunk and Avengers but at least Cyberpunk had a redemption ark! There’s no hope for these guys. There’s no way they can recover. They should just cut their losses and run. Probably will to if Steam comes after them.

I honestly think the devs just couldn’t put out what they wanted so instead of changing gears or announcing the failure of the game- they just published another extraction shooter.

the saddest part of all of this, is the extraction shooter community is begging for a more casual experience than tarkov, DMZ from Call of Duty really had a chance, but in typical Activision fashion; they dropped the ball. there are hundreds of thousands of people looking for an extraction shooter, FPS experience that doesn't require 500 hours to understand. FN could have legit went this route and made a lot of money, but for some reason everyone has to present themselves as the next revolution in gaming, and it's simply ruining gaming. i'm really hoping the guys from Madfinger Games are able to knock it out of the park with Gray Zone, because eventually someone will. whoever finally does accomplish this, absolutely deserves the oodles of doubloons that get showered upon them.

Since the absurd saga of Abandoned, the vaporware game that somehow landed its own PlayStation feature before it was revealed it was nothing but air, similar concerns have been raised over The Day Before. The game promised a sprawling survival MMO in the vein of The Division from a very small team, and its trailer suggested some sort of epic release years in the making. But many began to suspect that, like Abandoned, it would turn out to be some sort of grift. Well, it turns out The Day Before is a real game. Technically. It did in fact release yesterday, hitting Steam for $40, and half a million people were watching streams of it, which included huge-name creators giving it a shot. The Day Before, however, has immediately plunged headfirst into contention for the worst game of 2023, squeezing in at just the last minute here. While it is a game that exists, it is not even remotely like what it would say it would be, with even the overall genre changing. Players believe they were just straight up lied to.

Having been in some marketing hype meetings if I could be a little charitable there was probably some early sales pitch on all those features along with assurances that it is all doable. Then they got some marketing gameplay examples of that vision. Then reality hits them in the face that whoever they had to code this couldn't deliver on any of it so it kept falling farther and farther behind till we have what we have now. Which is pretty much nothing.

"we're just like you. We've worked hard." Yeah, worked hard on making sure you only had volunteers making your game so you didn't have to pay them

That message they sent out on the 4th was the best part about there failure.

People like this really cause distrust for indie devs, and it's not fair. Do they really think we won't notice their antics, when we've been trained for years to do so?

The Division 1 dark zone was such a good idea, but imbalanced kits made it unplayable, at higher levels everyone was immortal who could tank 1000s of bullets..

Angry Joe’s experience was funny, he got the “void” after the waking up cut scene. And he basically couldn’t get into a server, so like most people. lol.

This is not an "erm actually" thing, just kind of a neat fun fact. When you brought up Rockstar and how their trailers are always reflective of the game, there was one major change between GTA5s reveal and its launch. When the trailers came out, the world in GTA 5 had WAY more greenery and plant life, lots of trees and bushes and stuff everywhere, but they had to drastically cut back on that due to the game needing to launch on PS3. It's a shame that the cutbacks applied to the PS4 and never got added back in, but it was nothing truly major.
