I remember the story where Chuck got crushed in a squat attempt, the bar got loaded with even more weight for the next, and he lifted that goddamn thing like nothing had happened before. I have nothing but respect for his commitment and intensity. What would 5 percent of his mindset do to us regulars? He will be always one of my favorite lifters of all time.
haha. That was seriously how shit was back in those days at Westside. They were all convicts, former drug addicts, prison guards, football players, and just all-around crazy fucking people with one common passion. Iron. Chuck was a short but massively powerful guy. He got bodyslammed by the other dude when they fought in the parking lot and he landed wrong on his head.
@@lawrenceb3434 The crazy part was, according to Louie in a podcast I watched, they weren't even really angry at each other. That was just the type of shit these crazy fuckers would do before or after a workout. They'd challenge each other to lifting contests or they'd often time just fight out in the parking lot. Louie told a story about how they followed Chuck home one day and went up to his door just to bust his balls about bending a bar in the gym. He said Chuck took a swing at him, but after that, they were ok again. LOL
Some of it IS out there on VHS rips. Not everything, obviously, but there's a lot of footage of OLD westside days with a young Dave, Chuck, and a bunch of monsters training. Including Louie. Some of it was shown on the Westside podcast videos, but some footage is out there and it's damn cool to see.
I got to train here in college for like 2 weeks... basically I got to do 4 upper body workouts and 4 lower body workouts... it was fucking crazy in there. I was a strong safety and center fielder weighing about 195. My squat went from 375 to 455 and my bench from 315 to 360.... almost all just off technique alone. I got to really work with Louie 2 of the 4 times I was in there.... it's everything it's cracked up to be as far as intensity and alpha dogs goes... hahaha. My best friend was also on the team and his step brother got us in there bc it was and still is invite only.. We were like... wtf... invite only?? And he said it's not what you think it is.. you'll see when you get there. Hahaha. Literally a hole in the wall... the front part of the gym was for just normal members, the back part was where the beasts were at tho.... you didn't dare wander back there to get a set in if you weren't part of the crew.... hahaha. And I went in the evening, rumor has it the morning crew was where it was really at. Just wanted to share! Love this channel and the content!
I know they have a brand and couldn't do it but I would love to hear all the crazy drug stories they have. Like I saw a guy one-time shoot up 30 cc's of EQ through his jeans, in one sitting I bet they got a ton of those
This is what makes a good training partner though. My guy does 8 reps, I'll do 10, he does 12, I do 15. We'll have a passing contest over anything, like I won't put belt or wraps on untill he does. If I need my briefs, I'll get shit for it. Funny thing is we compete in different sports, he's a bodybuilder and I'm a multi ply guy, but it's about burying his ass at every opportunity.
i wish you could train like that and be effective but it just isnt lol. Not trying to call myself a tough guy, i just enjoy the pain and got a ego issue with wanting to train harder than anyone around me. Like for example last week i decided to walk 2 hours to the gym and do a intense leg workout then walk 2 hours home after that. BIG MISTAKE!!! Ended up getting sick for a week after, just recovering now.
He didn’t die he is still around and still lifts even if he doesn’t compete. As far as I know he hasn’t been a big talker and has never been interested in talking about any of this stuff.
Chuck has been shredded for 20 years and is one of the strongest dudes ever? Dave has been on a, bodybuilding stage and a top ten in the world. What have you acheived!
People are world champions at 13. If you haven't acheived anything shut your mouth and realise that you have to earn the right to a public opinion on a world champion. Otherwise in the real world you will earn a smack in the mouth off someone and learn a much harder way.
@@Wolfdane I appreciate the heavy weights being moved, but it's the most ridiculous sport out there. I assume we're on the same page here so I won't get into detail
@@joemfahey I won't even get into geared powerlifting. Stupid Meatheads who look for an excuse to inject roids, get fat and call themselves 'athletes'. I absolutely despise the way people act when they're about to lift - the silly dances and entries, the screams before/after lifting... I also can't stand the powerlifting 'figures' such as Louie Simmons or even Mark Rippetoe. Both are old fashioned apes with less IQ points than my cat. Bench press - sweet mother of God, they should remove that charade completely, since it's basically an arching contest. Just listen to Dave speak - he acts like he's 15. All tough and bad ass, saying motherfucker and shit every 2 seconds. Fuck this stupid sport and fuck everyone who supports this stupid alpha male behavior
@@roeescharf104 you can love powerlifting and hate all the things you just stated. As most powerlifters, beleive it or not, do. Most of the biggest names in powerlifting agree that shit needs to change. And the equipped "Westside" training styles has almost all died out. As it should.
