On June 6, 1980 Mickey Mantle came to northwest Connecticut to be the guest speaker at a sports dinner. This was back in the day, when athletes past and present spoke at events such as these, in many cases to supplement their income. In other respects, it was a time when athletes and the fans were much closer than they are today. Here is my interview with this New York Yankees great.
Time stamp:
0:00- Intro
2:36- Start of interview
3:35- On getting back in the game
4:00- Has he received offers
4:44- Does he follow the game
5:33- How Mickey Mantle would like to be remembered
5:53- On playing for manager Casey Stengel
6:33- Mickey Mantle talks about Billy Martin the manager
7:15- Mickey Mantle on what it was like to be a New York Yankee

Wow great story thank you. I caught Willie Mays 559th homerun. August 29, 1967. Against dodgers. I was 12. It’s autographed “Best Wishes Willie Mays 559” I still have it and the ticket stubs

Mantle was once asked "if he ever went up to the plate trying to hit a Homerun "? And he said " Everytime"

Mickey would have hit more home runs but he walked so often he didn't get a chance to swing away.

Billy Martin was one of the most miserable, rude, tempermental little jerks that were ever in the game. He was always drunk, and it finally got him, when he crashed in a pickup truck going home from a bar.

Why didn’t you tell him what a great player he was and what a wonderful influence he was for all our young kids to watch them
