As I stand here amidst the lush greenery of our homestead, I can't help but feel a whirlwind of emotions swirling within me. You see, after years of dedication and hard work in the corporate world, I've reached a pivotal moment: retirement.
It's a decision that's been brewing for some time, yet as the reality sets in, I find myself oscillating between excitement and apprehension. Leaving behind the familiar routine and security of my career is daunting, to say the least. But deep down, I know it's the right step for me, for us. And as I look ahead, I'm filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to pursue these dreams alongside Todd, my steadfast partner in this journey. Together, we'll cultivate not just crops but a life rich in meaning and connection.
So yes, there are butterflies fluttering in my stomach, uncertainties lingering in the air. But beneath it all, there's a profound sense of excitement, of anticipation for the adventures that lie ahead. And with each potato planted and each plan hatched, I'm reminded that this retirement isn't just an end-it's a beginning, a chance to write the next beautiful chapter in the story of our lives ♥

Watching you describe the wife you want to be for Todd was one of the most precious beautiful moments I think I've ever seen on RU-vid! So happy for you. I worked 45 years in healthcare and I have to say I felt the same way, I really wanted to just stay at home with my children. Sometimes life just dictates our directions. I am now retired and am raising 2 grandsons which I love, I garden, can, cook and I like all that. Your days will fill up without you realizing it, you will love it. Congratulations.

I remember a year to 2 years ago you were having a tough time. We don't know what was causing it but we (viewers) were so concerned because you're emotions are easy to read. Fast forward to today & you look so darn happy! And deservedly so. Retirement is so great. You said you don't know what you're going to do with yourself but trust me. You're going to be so busy. You don't look 55 so you must be retiring early. How nice. Hopefully, Todd isn't far behind. We are so happy for you!

I just meant normal early retirement age of 55 as far as corporations go. Maybe thats not the normal age anymore. I realize many people aren't even able to retire which is sad & unfortunate.

It never occurred to me that other woman would think like I do. For years I was a stay at home mom and then I went back into the workforce. My husband is older than I am and he is gearing up for retirement. My heart so desires to actually be a house WIFE. I never really truly understood what that was about until recently when it has been put into my heart. In a sense I want to make sure he has the best retirement possible. I want to be by his side and enjoy life together. Thank you Rachel for showing me I'm not alone in this way of traditional thinking.

Being a godly women is one of the most precious things we can do as women. What a blessing it is for you and Todd. And, how proud God must feel to see one of His children strive to serve in godly ways. I, too, hope to one day be able to fully step into being a godly wife because I know the more I serve my husband the more I fall in love with him. God knew exactly what he was doing when he created us and when we follow his ways it's truly a beautiful thing to experience. So excited for your life ahead.♡ Tearing up with you 😢❤

I love the idea of classes. A few years ago, I had pastor's wives over and made raspberry jelly. Everything was prepped and we just got to it have a special time getting to know each other better. I retired in 2022 from 33 years as a fast-food manager. I have a small garden and I enjoy the relaxation of just being outside and watch our new hobbies. Bee keeping has many mountains and valleys. Growing herbs, drying them, making tinctures salves, compound butters to add to recipes is one of my priorities. Congratulations on your milestone. Our daughter follows you and says we have sooooo much in common. Especially for the love of our Creator. Time to enjoy the little things more every day, even the birds singing their songs

Racheal, when COVID hit & I was furloughed from a position which I’d held for 40 years. Over those few months of being home, I loved just being here to take care of the house, cook meals, etc. it really gave me insight to what retirement would be for me & I could not wait for that time to arrive. After being called back to work, it was perfect timing to pull the trigger! Within a few short months, I turned 65, had then completed 41 years & made the joyful decision to retire. Yes, it is scary but not for long! I do not miss waking up @ 530am for that job! So, congratulations & enjoy your well deserved retirement!

Such wonderful news! Retirement is such a gift and I’m sure both of you will thrive. As to having lots of free time, be careful what you wish for…that free time is filled VERY quickly! My story is somewhat like yours, in that my professional life walked side by side with my family life. Raising kids while teaching full time was a stretch, especially since my passion for teaching and desire to always be there with and for our children weren’t always compatible. But the story of your children’s’ successes shows you found the balance. Now you and Todd can explore this new chapter in your lives with joy and eager anticipation. I am so happy for you!

I so can understand. I like you spent 25 years as a wife, then stay at home mom. Went through a divorce when my youngest was 15 and just needed a job. I had never worked other than in high school and although I had a college degree, didn't feel like that was where I was supposed to work. God provided mightily and although I only work part time, it has kept the kids and I fed and taken care of. I love my job and the people I work with BUT I have so many hobbies and aspirations from gardening to crafting, baking and sewing, building stuff that I just don't have enough hours in the day to get everything done. I too am a dreamer and dream of a small homestead where I can put my knowledge of gardening and the like to use more efficiently. However, I don't see myself retiring any time in the near future. I have two special needs children who will forever be dependent on me to some degree and since they can't really contribute financially, it's up to me. I thank God daily for his blessings and just try to do the best I can at everything I touch. I know that one day, I may be able to fulfill that dream if I continue to be frugal. Thanks for sharing your story.

Congratulations Rachel. I just retired in January at 63. I looked after seniors for years. Loved the job. Simply exhausted. I have a wonderful husband who just held me one day and said " That is it... quit. Retire. We are okay. Do what you want." I love canning, gardening, baking, making cakes for people. I do not miss working ... not for one minute.

I used to want to be a vet, even went through one year of school but then I met God and God changed my heart and made me want to be a stay at home mom. It’s biblical for women to be at home and men work outside, Titus 2 states so. It’s unfortunate that these days that COL is so high that both mom and dad have to work.

Rachel, this video brought me to tears of joy for you. I wish the world valued women who just want to love and minister to the hearts of their husbands and children. I totally understand! Nothing (and I’ve had a meaningful career that meant so much to me, ever compared to the years I stayed home with my children and the joy I have of working beside (from home) my husband and caring for him. We run our business from home so that I can be here and care for our home and my husband! We have figured out a way to run the business (no more employees, subcontracting certain aspects, etc.) so it doesn’t occupy too much of my time and energy, what I used to do in 40-50 hours a week, I can now do in 5-10 hours a week! Ministering to my loved ones is my most important priority!

Oh my goodness, I'm so happy for you!! I usually just quietly watch the video and move on, but I had to stop and comment on this. I want to tell you how much of a blessing you are. When I started watching your videos about 2 years ago I adopted you in my heart as my "aunt Rachel" and you're usually the first place I go to find gardening or canning answers and inspiration. Your heart for your family and doing the homesteading life is so inspiring! God is using you in so many amazing ways, and now He gets to do even more blessing through you! If I had to choose someone to exemplify the Proverbs 31 woman, it would be you! Thank you for being the ray of sunshine that you are, and I'm so excited to see what God's going to do in your lives going forward ❤️🙌🏼

I was blessed by my husband too be a SAHM for 22 years. Throughout that time, I volunteered with Girl Scouts, in the schools, I taught Religious Education, and I became a volunteer EMT. That lead me to my Paramedic career, both in the field and teaching in the classroom. I won't do the field work forever, as I'm almost 50, and it can be tough on the body, but I will always do something in the classroom. So if i'm not digging in the dirt or scooping up chicken poop, or playing with my bees, I'll be teaching the next generation of EMS providers. Theres room for all of our passions, and I'm so excited that you are finding and exploring yours. Also, what a beautiful marriage you have. It's so nice to hear a woman speak so lovingly of her husband and wanting to serve him as a wife. So often we're told that independence as a woman is strength, but I think knowing the beat of your heart, resides in your husbands chest, is a far greater strength. God Bless you and Todd. Looking forward to more Rachel adventures!

Having a farm stand has also been one of my future dreams and I am so excited to follow you on this journey as well! Thank you for sharing your lives with us 💗

we knew the minute the video started that you were retiring. You had the "look" on your face. That's the same look I had 7 years ago. Congratulations!!!!!!! Us old folks in Florida love your videos. Now maybe you'll have more time for "what's for dinner" videos, and cabin visits !!!! Best to you and Todd.😄😄😄😄😄😄

Many people struggle to see the possibility of a fulfilling life after leaving a job. But having less stress and being joyful is priceless.

I couldn't be happier to listen to your story. You were the one who inspired me to start canning, and originally planted seeds of wanting to garden/homestead, and now I'm working on it. I've watched your old video about your property so many times, and just so good to hear about these aspects with debt, career, etc. Thanks very much and congratulations again. Farm stand is a big yay too!

Congratulations on your retirement, the wife & I both retired in 2021 and first 2 months felt like we were on vacation. Here it is almost 3 years later. Time goes by a little faster now, and it seems like we’re busier now.

Hi Rachel. Loved your video. I worked from 18 until my our first child was born when I was 38, a little over a year after we were married. I've been a stay at home mum for pretty much the last 18 years and I ❤❤❤ it. We joke even now about having blue and pink jobs, very un PC to some people but I just wanted to take care of my family. You do you and be happy. 😊 Our two boys are now older and able to look after themselves more so I'm now looking at getting myself a job outside of the house. I'm really hoping an interview from yesterday comes off but this job will only be short term. Jon and I own a small, 55 acre sheep farm qhich I do admin for amongst other things, and we have a plan in place to sell up, plus the house and everything, start a fresh and head off into the wild blue yonder in around 4 yrs to travel Europe from the UK and beyond that. It will be our time when we are still young enough to have adventures of our own and we are SOOO excited. There are a lot of plans to work through leading up to it and we are already on it, like me de cluttering which I'm so enjoying. Can't wait to hear about all of your new plans especially the farm stand.👏👏👏.x

I always wanted to be a stay at home mom. I didn’t get to do it either. I went to college as an adult then worked as a Registered Nurse for 25 years. But, now my daughter and her family live with me and I’m loving retirement.

Rachel I’m so happy for you our lives were so similar about wanting to be stay at home moms and circumstances forced me into the workforce to ensure my family would thrive after my divorce. Like you I’m lucky the second time around however my love came into my life after my children were grown. My career ended abruptly when I had an accident and I ended up on long term disability leave. It’s been a difficult adjustment this past 16 yrs but I’m slowly getting back to a semblance of the woman I used to be although physically I’ll never be able to do what I could before. Each day is such a blessing and as a grandmother life couldn’t be sweeter. Just wanted to share and say thank you for telling your story, I find it so amazing how similar our career stories were and I had the same philosophy of working hard and one day the rewards will come and they did. I was blessed and have had sooo many God moments in all of it. They are so easy to identify and know that he’s had a plan for me all along. God bless you on your endeavours and it’s easy to see you and Todd are both relaxing into your new identities of husband and wife and both look so happy! 🥰❤️🍁🙏🏻🇨🇦
