To be fair, that is a Djokovic specialty, and Nadal has less comebacks from 2 sets to 0 in grand slams than any other member of the big 4, never mind big 3
@@Grainsworth Djokovic's comeback always features players weaker than him, where he shouldnt even be 0-2 down, examples being Sinner wimbledon 2022 and Djere US open 2023. Nadal always comeback from way tougher conditions, either he hasnt played for long time or his opponent currently in better form. Nadal's comeback is always the most inspiring and unimaginable, whereas Djokovic's comeback is mostly his redemption of mistakes earlier in the match. People didnt praise Nadal as the gladiator for no reason.
I think this might be tougher because with this Medvedev only has to win 1 game to win the match, but in the Australian open the opponent would still have to win a full set to claim the victory. Regardless, both are incredible and show the determination of Nadal.
@@justinjerrylee1659 Thank you for pointing that out. I feel that the Australian open this year was his greatest comeback ever. Everything about that match said he was going to lose, and somehow he pulled out the third set, and ultimately won.
None is able to come back facing such good players and in such a breathtaking way, he is the true GOAT. ❤ Never gives up. Wait for your comeback Rafa, viva España 🇪🇸
What a great match this was. I almost never take Nadal for granted but I remember in this match I thought it was over. Once again he proved otherwise… nothing but admiration.
Incredible that he and Medvedev had two brilliant matches in the ATP finals where each came back from the brink of defeat. Medvedev paid back the favor in 2020 when Nadal won set 1 and serving for the match in set 2.
@@z1az285 yeah that's true, it's almost like inverted versions of the same match, and in the AO final Nadal made another miraculous comeback against Medvedev and it's actually v similar to the US Open Final in 2019 for Medvedev except ofc Nadal actually completed the comeback.. It's funny , their whole head to head, five matches now, if u go backwards is almost completely inverted lol, if Medvedev wins the next match easily then their whole head to head front to back will basically be inverted: straight set victory by one, out of nowhere two sets to love come back in slam final to even it, and ATP finals comeback from nowhere two years back to back. doesn't mean anything and is obviously coincidental but kinda funny.
@@AnthonyHirsch Absolutely. I was getting shades of 2019 though when rafa came back from a long injury layoff. I was going, oh no but thank goodness rafa flipped a switch
@@shaan8032 i know what you are saying but rafa just fought back ferociously in australia. i think he should have maybe won the second set, and he felt like he didn’t leave it all out there if he went in 3. for his own satisfaction, he upped his level, realized it’s working and went all the way. truly a special night but i wouldn’t say medvedev was influenced by events in 2020. he just gave rafa enough for him to capitalize ruthlessly.
It was sad that he did this and won his other match vs Tsitsipas but still didn't get through to the semi's because he lost to Zverev and Tsitsipas beat Zverev
After watching all these years of tennis, it won't be wrong to say Nadal is the best ever in the tennis courts. Like the tactician Ali, in boxing, Nadal finds ways to beat his opponents. If not for his constant injuries, he would have won many more Grand Slams. If all the losses esp the semis and finals in the Grandslams, as have been noticed, were mainly due to lack of adequate or no training and preparation due to prior injuries. It is no joke to come back from the brink of defeat and win the match. How he did It? Australian Open 2022 is one prime example. Youngsters must learn from Nadal as how to recover from failure and make success in life.
This is the difference between the champions and those who are just really good players. Champions have that “it” factor or killer instinct or whatever you call it.
Danil todavía no puede cerrar un partido decisivo vs Rafa Pasó en el Us Open, en las ATP Finals y ahora en Australia Open Grande Rafa, y que manera épica de remontar
That face Nadal made at 4:33 meant more than just a face. It meant... Enough playing. Time to awaken the inner strength of Nadal. It also teaches his opponents a lesson that in the future if they see Nadal make that face it will most likely mean they're about to get obliterated.
Novak is also GOAT, lets not forget that the 3 of them have dominated so much all in one era. Theres 3 GOATs and its upto peoples opinions to decide who is their GOAT. However at the end of their careers, the numbers and statistics will most likely point towards Novak to be considered the all time greatest. Personally, Federer is always gonna be my favourite but im just stating facts here.
@@yusufluhar5881 tend to agree a bit. but have to consider the opposition Rafa faced during his career. the first half, it was prime federer, and in the second half its the prime novak and he still succeeded in getting equal or more GS than them. Rafa was unlucky couple of times in AUS before and couple of times in wimbledon before. else he would be 25 GS now.
Tiene Nadal el mejor servicio? No. El mejor resto? No. El mejor drive?
experience is everything. medvedev cracked under pressure. played well in the beginning and then began missing more shots as match point came close (you notice his strokes were getting sloppier two games to match point and he just stopped trying thinking he was going to get the win). Nadal's had far more wins and court time at higher level gameplay which means he's more consistent when it comes down to critical times. This comeback was great though. GJ nadal.
I agree. I think part of what helped Medvedev in the US Open Final (besides that he is a very good player) was that Novak was equally under so much pressure and not playing his best tennis. This is not to discredit Medvedev - to win a grand slam in this era is an extremely difficult achievement. I just mean it helps when your opponent is under even more immense pressure to get a calendar slam lol! Also, Nadal leads the head to head with Medvedev 5 to 1 now so I wonder if there's something about Nadal's resilience and refusal to be put down that Medvedev has a hard time overcoming.
@@winterlogical Nadal's mental game is very hard to crack. Even more so back in his prime years ago when he had both agility and strength. The current stars are great but I grew up with djokovic, federer, roddick, sharapova, williams, etc. To me, those are still my most fav [best players in a sense].
