Roberto Baggio was definitely one of the greatest star players not only in Italy but in all of European football. He was definitely one of the top 10 numbers with his dribbling, stealing, finishing in goal kicks and speed.
Inter's coaches really wasted the talents of Baggio and Pirlo. A smarter coach would have built the team around them. Baggio showed a great repertoire here with his first touch, composure, vision and passing, weight of pass, dribbling, finishing ... Doing so against some legendary players such as Cafu. It was a joy to watch
Why was this man sitting on the damn bench is beyond me!! I have never seen a number 10 being sent to the game only when the team was losing and than completely change the game. A player who has never fulfilled his true talent and potential. Please leave this guy finally alone for that stupid penalty! I don't get it. Maradonna in 90 world cup missed penalty. Beckham has also missed penalty twice on the big tournament but only this man has been always marked for this stupid penalty, although he has dragged Italy to the final on his own!
Even if he had scored Italy's fifth penalty to make it 3-3, Brazil only needed to score their last Penalty to win and make it 4-3. No one even remembers the other two Italian players to miss Massaro and Baresi
@@leemc5646 Nobody remembers Baresi and Massaro missing the penalty because they didn't drag Italy to the final. He did and he was also the best football player of the year 93 so the whole attention and pressure was on him. Nobody can tell for sure if the Brasilian after him would have scored for 4:3 but it was definitely more than obvious that Brasilians wouldn't let this slide by after 3:3.
And I go so far as to blame LIPPI for the Natl team loss, when he was ct of Inter. He left Baggio on the bench all year and so was unavailable for Euro 2000. Should have played in that final. That was OUR coppa.
@@gojakla12 Beckham in the same paragraph as the other two?! Cmon now. Feckham was a great free kick taker, that's it. Pirlo, Zola, Del Piero were just as good at that.
@@patrickbateman3488 yes he had the potential to be better than Diego and coming from me thats saying something because Diego to me is a footballing prophet sent from God
To be honest as lifelong Man United supporter I have to admit that United's victory over Inter in 98/99 is a lot underappreciated. Inter had such a strong team, with so much attacking talent. Ronaldo, Baggio, Djorkaeff, Zamorano, Simeone, Pirlo, Ventola, Zanetti... seriously, what a team. Even thesedays they would tear apart many modern-day teams (and surely modern-day Man United).
The game in Milan was tough for us. Ventola scored I believe. Then we were under pressure and zamorano had chances. Finally Scholes scored and put them away
@@mariodicarmine8294 what's funny is that in China, it was billed as the battle of the two bald youngsters, Ronaldo and Wes Brown...and that's how I got to learn about Wes...I can't recall if he played in the game or whether he was effective
Baggio was a bad signing. He was too similar to Djorkaeff. Ironically, Baggio's signing forced Djorkaeff to leave in 1999, and then Baggio would end up leaving in 2000 anyway.
Honestly, one of the best of all times, he did every thing in football world but the penalty he failed to score in the world cup final overshadowed his legacy.
I totally agrre. Here in Brazil, people talk a lot about Maradona and Zico, but forget about Baggio. And the italian Championship used to be one of the toughest .
He basically played his entire career on just one leg, after destroying the other one early in his career, and he was still that dominant. If he didn't have that injury he would have been the greatest of all time
@@therealrouges2341Come on, he had 11 goals in 32 matches in serie C at 17, BEFORE the injury. Ronaldo at the same age had 35 goals in 34 matches at Cruzeiro, Brazilian serie A. Pelé at the same age was scoring 6 goals and a couple of posts in 3 matches in WC. Let's not make Baggio a mythical character

In this squad, Inter had: Baggio (one best player of early 90's-late 90's) Ronaldo (one best player of late 90's- early 2000's) Pirlo (one best player of early 2000's-early 2010's)
@@amewise with respect to the name you mentioned, but those three name in my comment before known as best of their era..their generation icons.. Zamorano, Djorkaeff, Zanetti was good too, but not in the same level to Baggio, Ronaldo and Pirlo in fame and talent
The day Bajio changed the game!!!! He was a game changer, he used to score in most of the games!!!! There is no single goat! there is the best of his own time, and Bajio was that guy!!
Crazy to think this team had Prime R9, Baggio, Zamarano, Pirlo, Djorkeff, Zanneti and Simeone Managers had no excuse not to win the league at least once...
Arguably Italy’s greatest footballer if he only had converted his Infamous pen that turned out to be the defining moment of Roberts’s career unfortunately which is unfair if you ask me because after all in terms of “talent” he ticks every box is just that the big major trophies missing to back his case really. The World Cup & the champions league plus few more to boost his C.V.
He was unlucky because he had his prime playing for a struggling Fiorentina and Juventus and then after he started to decline the coaches of the most successful teams like Juventus, Inter and Milan did not know how to fit him in their tactical lineup and would rather build around other players
I would watch old serie A games all day, everyday. Modern day football doesn't do it for me, there arent players anymore who could create these magical moments
