For those who claim that Federer played in a "weak era" should watch the quality of tennis that guys like Davydenko, Nalbandian, Carlos Moya and some others played. It must have been mighty frustrating for Davydenko to play this well yet lose.

It's weak observers that call that era weak. Simple.

Yes, I agree they had a lots of up and down during their carrers, not the best consistency, but when they played at thier best level were amazing. So much quality tennis, far better than Novak and Rafa in recent years (from 2015 to present). Maybe the worst player of 2000 was Roddick, apart from his serve and forehand, but what about Nalbandian Safin Moya Blake and Davydenko? Ridiculously good. And how not to remember that Hewitt, Haas were close to Djokovic level in 2012-2013, and Tommy Haas defeated him in Miami 6-2 6-4. What about Nalbandian beating the top 3 in a row? After 2018 has started a weak era... Zverev Tsitsipas Alcaraz Medvedev hit hard and in some cases defends brilliantly, the others are really weak. I don't put Djokovic and Nadal in the top 3 of all time, because this amazing players from 2000's simply outplayed them technically speaking. And no one from the '80s to now, has won so many big tournaments after 31 y.o. Yes they have won a lot, but legends simply shines on court, McEnroe, Laver, Sampras, Edberg no one plays with so much "opportunism". Maybe Borg was the only one a bit similar to them. Till 25 y.o. should have been the best ever lived, but he's not, why? He wasn't an artist 🤣

So you're basing your argument of few cherry picked game? I can also say that nadal was world number in 2005 at 19 year and Novak number 3 at 20 year while all those player were still playing nadal faced prime federer djoko Murray delpo wawrinka on and on

Nikolay is probably one of the best players to not win a slam. Had he not had a wrist injury, I think he would been at the top for a lot longer. His atp finals 2009 run was something. One of the toughest line ups, and he won.
@Divvy21
@Divvy21 2 года назад
@오겜달고나하는도중졸음에빠진문재인 had the bad luck of running into Federer deep into slams on HCs. For whatever reason though, he was more comfortable playing against Nadal than Federer. He does have wins over both, but his H2h with Nadal is 6-5. I guess it just shows how tennis is all about matchups
@spikestarofficial9927
@spikestarofficial9927 2 года назад
@@Divvy21 He could take the ball really early even on the backhand side which rushed Rafa leaving him to sometimes hit short balls Davy could attack. These players when they are on can really trouble him
@kwl189
@kwl189 2 года назад
@@Divvy21 his backhand was really consistent and probably one of the most underrated on the tour. The typical high ball into the backhand tactic after a heavy top spin lasso forehand from Rafa that worked on 99% of the tour was not a tactic that worked on Davydenko and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if it motivated and inspired Novak Djokovic and Murray a little in how to develop a game-plan to push back against prime Nadal.
@guiluge
@guiluge 2 года назад
Yes, he's up there with David Nalbandian
@pierdomenicosommati443
@pierdomenicosommati443 2 года назад
His backhand was as effective against Rafa, as it was (relatively) not so against Federer. It allowed Roger to constantly hit his own backhand into his comfort waist zone, which could make it absolutely lethal and much less prone to errors. Hard and early hitting is not enough to disrupt Roger's exceptional timing unless he's in bad shape... and this Roger was still able to cover tho court really well. Beating him was a very hard task for Davydenko, the odds were not favorable for him.

@royalthumper2527
@royalthumper2527 2 года назад
Federer vs Davy H2H: 19-2 That shows Fed's supremacy. It also has a moot point. It required Fed's A+ game to beat Davy almost all times. Each match between the two would seem like an ATP or GS Final. Such was the intensity. Davy was extraordinarily talented with power, angles and court coverage. He was probably the best in court coverage during his time. Its sad he never had a GS to own. These are pre-Zverev era guys - just put all emotions in hitting the ball; not the chair umpire. What is amusing is every time RF beat Davy. Then at what level was RF flying? God only knows.

Davydenko seems unusually expressive of frustration in this match. Maybe it was because he was finally back to playing pretty well after a low period (injury, etc), and this match meant something to him. Anyway, it is hard to believe that this match happened 10 years ago. I miss seeing both of them play.

Exactly this. He was playing poorly before and this tournament he showed some life. And his level was good enough to almost get the win here. One of those matches that if he won, it would boosted his confidence. Sometimes it takes a single win to turn around a career. After this match I can’t remember another time he was a factor again
