The more I think about the launcher, the more it makes me smile. Getting the view from the carrier is amazing and gets me going for a quick flight in the Tomcat. I’m not sure if it is possible, but would a multiplayer server list be possible, then even a launch from same list would be epic. Thanks for an amazing time to all the team. It’s been a ride.
Love it. Being able to easily launch in either 2D or 3D (VR) has been the greatest quality of life improvement for me. I use both for mission creation/editing, livery design, moose scripting and then testing all of those in VR easier and faster.
As it stands I deactivated the DCS Launcher as, for me, it just added another step in the process to launch DCS itself. I have all the modules I need installed already and my graphics settings are static so I don't have a need as yet to manage them outside of DCS in the Launcher. This might change when new features are added to the Launcher
Yeah, I was thinking about doing that myself and I wonder if the launcher is going to replace a lot of the website functions in the future. I'll ask ED next time I chat with those guys.
i think the e-commerce stuff in the Launcher rather than having to use the DCS website is a great move for those looking to trial and pick up new modules
I think all the modernization over the last year for the graphics in the launcher are good steps towards optimizing DCS, but I really hope that they're working on a new game engine that allows them to really take advantage of future potential like other platforms have.
It's very helpful since I run in VR but often use 2D for settings and the ME. I would like to see a settings page for our bindings. Sometimes when I am adjusting my controls, I want to just see what I have currently set, and sometimes with change them. I would be much easier than launching into the full game.
The launcher looks great, it would be amazing if we had sound with it as an option. Just like we get in the main gallery. An addition would be to change the VR aircraft in the hanger once you start. Giving us options like these can allow us to make DCS our own hanger. Small touches can make huge impressions.
I don't do VR but I imagine certain settings have to be done before launching to that point. It wouldn't hurt for you to write it up in a proposal with your concept described thoroughly and posted in the SC Forums. forum.dcs.world/forum/252-wish-list/
As someone with a full MIP setup, I really like that I can tweak settings without having to do a full client restart and mess up my screen arrangement in the new launch. I think DCS really needs a "Launch in Benchman mode" tester where it fires up a series of scenarios that seperately test your GPU, CPU and VRAM and generates a report of what isn't performing. I find it very hard to diagnose issues in DCS.
@@AIRWARFAREGROUP That would be fantastic, especially since DCS often requires multiple softwares running in tandem with it. I myself run AI Track, OpenTrack, SimAppPro, NLR HFS, OpenKneeboard and SRS while playing DCS. It's hard to figure out if issues are coming from DCS or software resources.
I'd also like to see when your previewing campaigns that it automatically pops up the option to buy the module that you need to fly it if you don't own it already.
Honestly, I haven’t explored too deeply however, I am satisfied with the current functionality of the launcher. Big fan of DCS! I would also love to see a new mod for the super Home. Wink, wink, hint, hint, elbow-rub, etc. lol
Thanks for this video, I hadn’t really thought too much about the new launcher but one thing I would really like to see is the ability to transfer terrain maps to different drives as memory constraints are always a concern over times, especially with bigger maps. I know I can uninstall them when necessary but having them on a different SSD would save time. Thanks again and have a good one.👍👍
The launcher adds a nice, modern touch to DCS and is a bigger creature comfort than just a way to start the game. Someone mentioned the 2d/3d function which is also nice and very useful tool too. Nice work overall and ED has been bringing DCS a long way in a short time lately. I'm hopeful it will continue to get even better going forward too.
You bet. I honestly feel that these improvements really are paving the way for a great future with DCS. I really hope there's a new game engine in the works.
One of the best Quality of Life improvements so far along with the Multi Thread support. Wags has been great for the flight sim community in general. Have been following his career since he was the product manager for Jane’s F18E Super Hornet. I think the only PC Gamer magazine I ever bought was because of his interview in it. Otherwise, it was always a browse the pages at the local library. 😂
Yeah kudos to Wags. His videos are always welcome 👍. Hey Juice I really like the new launcher. My only suggestion is for the settings screen. We really need a slider to reduce the amount of haze in DCS. It’s not too bad in 2D but really s@cks in VR at altitude. Thanks.
Hey, that's a good point and look on the forums and see if there's a feedback slot for that if not, create a new topic. Let me know if you need help finding it.
@@AIRWARFAREGROUP Thanks Juice. There are a lot of existing threads on the forums about this issue. You can manually go in and reduce the amount of haze by editing one of the LUA files. Problem is that every time you update DCS that file is overwritten.
I was impressed and I'm pretty picky. It's kind of slow going, but the improvements the Eagle dynamics is doing has impressed me and I've only heard about half of them.
It is great tool and I among many others like to have mod management included. Maybe ED could have kind of Community mod partnership program for good quality mods e.g A-4E-C or OH-6 Loach.
Good idea and those two mods I hear are two of the best available. I've not dealt with mods in a year or so, but I really loved the H-60 helicopter mod, but it never progressed as I'd hoped. Fortunately, a Blackhawk is coming to DCS.
I'd love to see either VR Specific Graphics settings, or a way to link/call one of the settings presets with the VR launch. I use very different settings (multi monitor setup) in 2D vs performance optimized reduced settings in VR. Always forget to switch...😂
Yeah, I know some guys that only fly in either 2-D or VR and guys that switch back back-and-forth is just a little reminder. I don't fly VR, but do you know if you select VR and then close out does it open with VR next time?
you guys remember the 2004 lock on launcher and 2008 ka-50 launcher? kind of old school. and the flanker 2.5 launcher (or GUI I think) is very cool too.
When the new launcher was first introduced I started using it .....primarily for switching back and forth between VR and 2D....but then I discovered that it was somehow costing me FPS in the game itself and deactivated it. Maybe I need to check if that is fixed by now.......
Originally I used it because I liked the slick ability to switch between VR and screen options. But, (and maybe I'm doing it wrong), when you exit out of either option it also closes the launcher, so you have to load it all back again. Seems a wasted step- is there a way to just exit back to the launcher?
I think the manuals are coming to the launcher and the third-party mods open up a whole new can of worms for certain developers. Reflected simulations said one of the first things he has people do when they're having problems with one of his campaigns is turned off all mods.
I would love to like what DCS is doing, but have a hard time thinking they are a well run company. Like your channel but had a bad experience with it last year. keep up the good work (Loved the videos from your trip up north)
I agree and there's lots of challenges within, especially when you consider that the development half of the company passed away in 2018 and replacing his talents are challenging but coming along. 🫡 to Igor
Hey, are you gonna make the trip to Rhode Island next year? You should mess around with the one click VR switch in the launcher and see how it compares.
Mine hasn't been doing that 🤔 I know how you feel because I hate the easy COMM settings. Could your issue be related to SRS in the launcher? We might need to do some investigation and get the developers to look at it. Have you checked the form to see if anybody else has reported the same issue? Probably unneeded for your pops, but thanks for the feedback.
@@AIRWARFAREGROUP i noticed it because there was issues with a mission in the gamblers, i think baltic built in a workaround for it now, but there was a bunch of people getting same issue on forum. I still find it an extra unneccesary step. Each their own though, im happy with it off
I think you're on something because I noticed that certain missions like in campaigns or made on someone else's computer that doesn't have the same setting if you have kind of affects the settings on yours when you try to run it and I saw that with snap viewsavings and with easy communications turned on. When we're working on a joint mission in my team, I do all the edits and just have them screen share with me to give me inputs because if I send it over to somebody else's machine, it changes it to their default settings in the editor and it's hard to change back even override.
Possibly for some, but just like everything complex once you set everything up your way you want it and figure out the functions of what does what it does make the future ease of operation better than the long run.
@@AIRWARFAREGROUP👍 maybe not conveying this well - I love the launcher , ED just needs to be perhaps be more deliberate in letting us know what these settings do I’ve played DCS VR for 5+ years, have a top VR headset and had no idea they added a “quadviews” setting - hell I was running QuadViews early beta for Pimax. And I still don’t quite understand why they needed to add this 😂. But too much dialogue here - launcher is fine. I played dcs forever and don’t need it but sure it’s nice
It was a busy summer. And I have to admit with all the warfare going on around the world, I just have a hard time trivializing it through video games. And turn it into a peace monger ✌️
@@AIRWARFAREGROUP Fair comment but then video games are just that, games. I think, truthfully, to associate the two together is probably a mistake. The world would be a much better place if the people ACTUALLY killing others picked up a video game and sorted out their differences that way! What d'you reckon?
Seems like they are putting a lot of effort into it when all that information is already there. It hasn't done anything for me, so I don't know why they are doing it. It's like them spending 6 months to make a pilot figure for the F-18c and they haven't even fixed the external lights like they did on the F-16c (It's been released nearly 6 years ago already. They spent years on the MAC application and then decided it wasn't worth the effort. I am frustrated at the slowness of their feature updates on their modules and maps. It's like they are spinning their wheels as we wait patiently for their Vulcan update. It's like we move forward one step and then wait a year to take another step. I am still waiting for the resolution to the Razbam conundrum, I have three of their modules and I like them.
I used to feel the same way until I learned about the function of DCS. It says it all in its name and it was never really designed to be a video game although they're trying to make it that way at the request of the users. The challenges over the years with Igor's passing in 2018 have slow slowly been worked out and are still improving on some of the functions to the point of optimization, core enhancements, and new features to the interface. All of this is done by very small team and throughout the year of 3 to 4 core modules being released as well as new terrain maps. I think it's remarkable what they've done and I understand it's not for everybody. That's why I invite people to walk away and find another video game to play. There's a lot of stuff that we don't understand. That's being done now that leads to what can be done down the road. ED could do a better job at communicating the process, and all of the challenges they face, but I'm fine with the way they run the business. I do hope you find something to enjoy about it and if not, I'm sure there's other products out there that you can enjoy. As to the RAZBAM situation, I would invite you to contact them directly, but don't expect to get an honest answer. I only owned one of their aircraft which I returned for a credit for a future ED module. I have the south Atlantic map, but never paid for it as I'm a terrain tester for them I have NDA's with all parties involved and can say that ED is doing a professional job in my opinion ! 🫡 J
@@AIRWARFAREGROUP Thanks for the feedback, I get what you're saying but apparently RAZBAM is willing to kill their products for ED on the vine and move on, that said, I have no clue what is actually happening. I am hoping Nick could explain what is happening - whether they are litigating or negotiating or what and that is why they cannot speak out, but they do need to say something. This puts a big shade on their entire operation. I am not interested in gaming, I do like DCS for what it is, but I do get frustrated with the slowness of their progress, I do know they have a lot on their plate, but if they need to hire, then hire, but these 202* and beyond videos are mentioning things that are way down the road and it looks like they are getting further behind with their promises. With pressure on them from Microsoft and now Microprose, they should be planning on increasing their efforts, I will not simply go to another "game", with the exception of maybe Falcon BMS. I feel I am reasonable in my expectations and I have plenty of different modules to have fun with, but things could be much better. They were supposed to be getting to release their C-130, they were talking like the Hellcat might be ready maybe by the end of next year, bu they can't even fix the external lights on the F-18 that's been out for nearly 6 years already. I bought the Afghanistan map and I am not sure if they'll have that done in my lifetime (I'm going on 74), That might be what's bothering me, I am seeing my own mortality.
The public may never know the details and many will form assumptions based upon misinformation and propaganda as the internet has made us all dumb...me included sometimes.
I'm sure that's evident now, but in the future, it will become automatic, and you can select to skip the launcher when you click your icon on the desktop.
I think it's a great addition! However, when first released it reset some of my settings every time I ran it, so I currently have it disable (that is also a great feature they had from day one!).
Thanks for the feedback...after this video survey gathers more input, I'll dig into the Forums and get with the point of contact to see if there is anything they need to do. Many of us use it without issue...we'll see. Juice
Kind of annoying, there's a lot of missing features that skatezilla's still does that ED's doesn't do. The whole reason to have the launcher is to fix their stupid broken method of updating and repairing... and the UI layout is IMO fucking trash... I have it disabled and just defaulted back to skatezilla's.
I don't miss steam. I recently found out that 30% of your purchase goes to steam and you pay the same price that everybody else pays at standalone however, you don't get as many sales or bonus points credits to use on future DCS purchases.
