thedeadweather.com The Dead Weather's performance of "Die By the Drop," live from Third Man Records on May 3rd, 2010. The entire performance was streamed live on Myspace Music.
While it is true the crowd isn't moving that much, keep in mind that this performance was before the album came out. So without knowing the song, it's tough to go crazy and get into it. And I'll bet also that people are kind of in shock when they see them live because they're that awesome. I know I was when I saw them...
When i was in a band when you had a crappy crowd it was hard to keep up the energy in the band but The Dead Weather do it wonderfully. Rock On Dead weather!
@iamironman211 Back in 2008, Jack played "Another Way to Die." with Alicia Keys and was played all over the radio, and music TV shows. MANY people have seen him drum, even if it was in a video clip.
@MsLiamz He plays bass on some White Stripes songs, as well as occasionally tuning his guitars to enable a "virtual bass" effect. For proof there is an article on NME.com about one of the many bands he has recorded with called "The Hentchmen" for the album "Hentchforth Five" where he plays bass, lead, and vocals. He also switched roles with fellow "Dead Weather" member "Little Jack Lawrence" for a cover of The Stripes "Dead Leaves And Dirty Ground" Google has more examples as well ...
@MsLiamz Also if you search "The White Stripes" "My Doorbell" on youtube and choose the 2cnd one ... it will be in Black and White ... He plays the non-electric Bass on the video ... he also plays Bass for the live recording of the same song on "Later... with Jools Holland" available on youtube as well. I've also seen live footage where he would jump from Guitar, to bass, to keyboards, and then back to guitar ... all in the same song ... performing fluid vocal work the whole time ...
@heyitsjasmyne Its not just that he gets better looking he has a duel with another band, kicks their ass and obsorbes their essence and becomes more powerful like high-lander thats how rock'n'roll works XD
@iluvvanessacarlton I think they were were stunned into inactivity by the sheer awesome they saw before them, they couldn't comprehend it so they were put into a near-comatose state
@Redux1010 ... although he actually has been a drummer from about age 6 ... this is the 1st time that he has taken the role of drummer in a band with this high a profile ... so yeah ... all of a sudden ... people may have known he was a drummer but I find it highly unlikely that very many have ever actually seen him on drums before "The Dead Weather" ...
@ViciousGuitarist i use a fuckload of distion on a stingray set to 50 treble 100 mid 50 bass and i play an octave higher then activate an ocatver so i get a synthish effect : D
@HaraldNordbo I second your notion!!!... Hail, Hail R&R... & Jack White and his music. Which without R&R would most dearly be suffering. His faith in music comes back to us with quality of tones to our ears. Unfortunately there's only a hand full of true R&R bands today... =/ Hail, Hail R&R!
My original reply to that explaining that I was referring to it NOW being more wide spread knowledge is buried now .... what I should have originally said was "and NOW I finally find out" ... I may have been "turned on to "The Stripes" later in the game but I recognized the Genius of Jack White instantly ... still learning more cool stuff ... His favorite female vocalist ... Loretta Lynn ... knowing a thing B4 someone else doesn't make a person cooler. We all have much to learn from each other.
if i were there i would be jumping and screaming!! people would think i was having a seizure or something. GAH how can the crowd not even be moving a little?? crazy people...
Let's see ... he sings ... he plays rhythm guitar ... he plays lead guitar ... he plays th bass ... he plays the keyboard ... and know all of a sudden we find out that he's a drummer also ... Jack White ... The coolest "One man band" on the planet ...
this is so... perfect! honestly im fucking sad about the stripes, but this stuff is THE shit! Jack is my fuckin' idol - i adore him and all of his music, even the song with alicia keys - III is the king of rock!
Cool, relatively stripped down song. Definitely rock and roll (as opposed to some donkey emo marketing crap label). I definitely don't think they're the last kids on the block rocking though. If you guys haven't already, check out Them Crooked Vultures.
Sorry if that came off as defensive ... that was not my intent. The message was to myself and everyone else as much as it was to you. As a writer I tend to sometimes appear as speaking from elevated emotions ... when for me that's just a regular state of mind. Plus I'd be willing to bet that most people still breathing and with a heartbeat tend to wax intense when discussion of Jack White is involved ... PEACE OUT ...
Fuk da studio version, this is the shit. The energy, the intro, the beat, the voice, and at least - everyone of them has a big part in the performance for once.
conclusion: if jack white could clone himself and start a band with him on both guitar and drums (LJ on the bass, of course)...it would the hardest, most explosive rock and roll you've ever heard.
