What a treasure Barbara McNair was. Some of today's singers couldn't shine her shoes.

I AM ABSOLUTELY ADDICTED TO THE DEAN MARTIN SHOWS. NOT ONLY DEAN WAS THE GREATEST SINGER OF HIS TIME, BEING AN EX MUSICIAN, 1950S ETC, I CANT GIVE THE UTMOST COMPLIMENTS TO THE MUSICAL ARRANGERS OF HIS SHOWS. I KNOW FOR A START, KEN LANE AND THEN OF LES BROWN AND HIS BAND OF RENOWN. KEN GIVES HE PIANO INTROS, AND THE THEN ORCHESTRA FOLLOW UPS COME IN, IN A GREAT AND GENTLE FOLLOW ON WHICH I THINK ARE BEAUTIFULLY BLENDED. WE DONT GET THAT TYPE OF MUSIC ANYMORE. THANKS DINO4EVER FOR BRINGING SUCH GREAT RECORDINGS TO MY COMPUTER SCREEN. I AM 85 YEARS OLD NOW, BUT DEANS SHOWS MAKE ME FEEL YEARS AND YEARS YOUNGER.

I used to watch The Dean Martin Show in the very early 70s as a young boy with my Dad on Sunday nights here in Victoria, Australia. Having listened to a live recording of Dean, Frank & Sammy at The Sands in 1962 for a year or so, I decided to try to find some clips of Dean's show. What a privilege it is to watch these episodes in the evening now as a 60 year old man in Australia. Dean was the quintessentially complete performer. Unparalleled in show business. These shows are brilliant. Takes me back 50 years with those Sunday evenings with my musician Dad. Bless you, Dean.

+torres songs @torres songs Is this what Barbara McNair shared with you about Cyd Charisse from being on this show? Did she ever got to share with you how it was on this episode, especially with Dean Martin? I know earlier that year in June 1967, she ended up working at Lake Tahoe with Dean Martin's uncle Leonard Barr. I often wondered how that came about because I do not think very many people were aware of Dean's uncle. Dean seemed protective of his uncle and admired him a lot. According to Lee Hale's DVD 2012 booklets and 2012 book, Barbara seemed to be one of Dean Martin's favorites....

This is a rather rare (to home viewers) version of a TV show called the "edit master," complete except for network commercials, bumpers and network ID breaks. Once they were added, and passed review for content, audio/video quality and timing, it became the "air master reel," cleared for broadcast. The timing of the show indicated the hit times of the local station's "mid-break, usually 2 minutes at about 27 to 33 minutes into an hour show, where local commercial spots, public service spots, promotionals and station IDs were run....then, back to network.

For around 40 issues or so, there was up to 1956 or so, a comic book called the adventures of dean martin and jerry something. Well, the thing to have been done was give jerry something his own book, and just keep the numbering going as just dean martin. So, he got kicked out of his own comic book.

God, you could have lit his blood and breath with a match because of his constant .18-.28 blood alcohol level. And start the music and turn on the lights, and you would never know he was plastered. He never rehearsed. He was known for: 1. Show up at the venue, usually already 6 inches through a bottle of good scotch. 2. Tell him what you needed. 3. Get out of the way and watch him knock it out of the park. What a natural talent.
@StevenTorrey
@StevenTorrey 9 лет назад
Bob Kidd I don't buy him being drunk--not for a minute. You can usually tell when a person is drunk by looking at their facial muscles--a dead give away. (To say nothing of slurred speech.) Appearing to be drunk was a shtick, it worked for him, like Jack Benny being stingy or Bob Hope and his nose. He has too much discipline for someone supposed to be drunk. I also have a suspicion that being un-rehearsed is also part of his 'legend'.

Nancy W Not only his son, just about everyone ever interviewed who knew him or worked with him said the same thing, that it was all,part of the act, and his image. Think about it - he couldn't have had the extremely successful long-lasting career he had in just about every area of entertainment (TV, films, records,night clubs etc) if he had been as big a lush as he made out to be.

Dean Martin would have been successful falling off a log, that's how fortunate he was. Lucky for his audience, he did a lot more. Only, he shouldn't have mentioned President Johnson so much, because, had he been born 9 days earlier, like JFK, he may have been the one, slain in Dallas.....that's astrology for you.
