I can't overstate how much I love the lyrics "I got the cure, because I know where you've been..." coming from the Pimp and the Priest. He knows how to absolve his believers of their sins because he's the one keeping them hooked on his prostitution ring by running both The Dime as well as The Church. Noticing everything clearly adding up like this is so satisfying. Even though he is the antagonist, The Pimp and The Priest is my favorite character in this whole story, It's hard not to like a good villain.
The Act albums all tell one story, currently we're waiting on the sixth and final album to conclude the story. There are comics out there TDH sold but iirc they only go up to Act II. If you want a super detailed deep dive to get the clearest explanation of the story I recommend reading prognotes.
That's essentially what is happening in the context of the story, and Casey always knocks it out of the park so people catch on even if they aren't familiar with it. The whole song has that feel, to me; it has the rhythm and bombast that Disney has used in the past to establish a villain's character.
I'll admit, I'm normally the individual that will not like a song for it simply not being "hard" enough. This entire album has made me feel wonderful emotions across the spectrum. The only other band that's not hardcore that has pleased me is Artifex Pereo and I'd say you're just as good as them. Thank you to everyone involved in making this masterpiece.
Lyrics [The Congregation:] They come in crowds to hear him speak And he will greet them in a Smile that sticks like Vaseline So do your best to keep your distance, in this instance You're a stranger in the weeds Some things are better left unseen Commanding listeners to believe Manipulations of narrations 'Anno Domini' Not with a whimper, but a bang He'll take the stage and leave their jaws upon the floor Begging for more So Father, won't you tend your flock and save us now? Won't you save us now? Come and save us [The Sermon:] I hear you're looking for god Well I can show you the way just as long as you can pay But the price is going up... And like a prayer to the air We deliver you to glory (Pay up') I swear you'll get what you need And we Can lead you to salvation With the right denomination It all lies in your hands Or in your pocketbook to be more demanding Don't you tread too close to the line this time Don't get lead too close to the light this time You went far too close to the line this time Line this time Hey! Hey kid! Hey kid - get a god!' Hey! Hey Hey Hey! Hey Kid Get A god! So you committed a sin? Well, we can rid that with a remedy The bidding starts at $70 Sold! To one and all now Get your hands ready to make a withdrawal You've got no other way to find what you Want If it's a saving that you're craving And your confidence is fading Be calm The Doctor's in I got the cure, because I know where you've been... Don't you tread too Close to the line this time Don't get lead too close to the light this time You went far Too close to the line this time Line this time [x3] If you wanna get up Reserve a Room on high Put your coins in my hat And don't ask why Don't you tread too close to the line this time Don't get lead too close to the light this time You went far too close to the line this time Line this time Line this time
I was just looking at the Apple Recommends bar and was attracted by the artwork and figured "Why not." I listened, liked it, and then I got to this track and realized I had a new obsession. These guys are fantastic.
it's taken a half a dozen listens at least, experiencing something new each time of course, but I'll firmly say that this album is Casey and the guys' best work. it's just... so brilliant and beautiful
I can't decide between this and Act V so I've just started thinking them as two halves of the same piece of music, since they were written and recorded at roughly the same time, and they're tied so neatly together.
Adam Coyne this is oddly one of. My least favorite albums and yet so memorable. Act 2 I believe is the most creative album they've made since it was basically the most important album and set up the rest of the songs. While taking stuff from act 1
This song actually reduced me into a puddle?? So beautiful, I am so happy I found this. The gods are looking over me on this fateful day, I see. Thank you for making this, I love it.
This blend of ghettoish swerves and the ever-present rock lyrics with the astounding amount of bohemian grooves is an absolute heaven to the ears. SO AMAZING!!!!! SO SPLENDID!!!!!
Funnily enough, it was precisely at this point in listening to Act IV I realized there *was* a story. I just clicked on the album on Apple because it had a pretty cover with a plague doctor on it and it was recommended under an album I liked. I just thought it was named Act IV because its the 4th album and I've seen bands do stuff like that but this kinda made me aware there was actually more to it and I actually felt dumb for not realizing it earlier. Though I eventually listened to the whole thing multiple times. I adore it. I haven't felt this positive about a prog band in awhile.
No conocía este grupo y menuda sorpresa más agradable, he escuchado el Act V que me parece una maravilla. Ahora me toca descubrir sus álbumes anteriores, pero pinta muy bien. A disfrutar

In a way. The Pimp, Priest and Doctor are all the same person. This song depicts the boy attending the "Doctor's" presentation at the church, where he tries to sell snake oil and religion simeltaneously. The Pimp and The Priest depicted him finding prostitutes by praying on the desperate and innocent members of the church, so this song just expands on the Pimp's ruthless capitalism.
+Andres Lopez My son has the albums and I think he said the songs were very connected. I just love what I am hearing with this band! Aren't they so unusually amazing? I have been bored mindless with modern music for years. Rarely a good real voice let alone a great song. This band have got something that makes me feel! And I love that!
Luke Dee Thank you! I thought it was interesting how they seemed to share a musical motif and how they have similar song titles. Sorry for the late response! xD

Bro its a critique of Christianity and how back in the day (and sometimes even now) greedy priests and the like convinced people to give them a bunch of money so they could be forgiven for their sins (which you dont need to pay for forgiveness, they were in it for money)
+Shawn Plummer well actually. i part of the story. the pinp and priest is the same guy. Nd this guy tries to salvate people by money. but yeah same idea. just part of the story
