I know I'm late to all this, but I really hope you continue The Color Spectrum all the way through. If you love this electronic style you'll adore Indigo. And since you love discovering other music, about half of the EPs features other artists!
To your assumption about the way the EPs are set up: you are correct! Each EP seeks to capture what is essentially Casey's perception of the associated color - I believe he once self-effacingly called the project: "The One About Colors, or: How I, Casey Crescenzo, Taste Emotions." The transitions between colors are really cool, because you'll always hear a little tinge of whatever color preceded the one you're on and there'll always be a little hint of how the next EP might feel. E: It's also worth noting that the songs here are a lot more... song-ish than the ones on the Acts. They're part of a concept, but with a few exceptions, each song is pretty much self-contained.
Found your channel last night and have binged your TDH videos and here we are. I'm so looking forward to the listening to the rest of TCS but mostly Act IV with you.
The Color Spectrum is such an ambitious musical project with a crazy amount of variety. I think the black songs are my favorite; it's an interesting darker version their signature sound. I always say that it reminds me of a darker King Crimson.
Hey man! As a huge TDH fan I was thrilled to find your channel yesterday. Ofcourse, I've already managed to binge all your TDH first listens and would love to see you continue both the Acts and the other EPs on The Color Spectrum. I can tell you have a great deal of respect for musicianship in the way you listen to and analyze music -- great stuff! Some other recommendations in the same ballpark as TDH: - Thank You Scientist. While they are pretty different I usually get the same vibes from them as TDH. A lot more jazz fusion influenced so it might be a little hit or miss, but you seemed to like the 'jazzy' bits in the Acts. - The album Razia's Shadow by Forgive Durden. It's an audio-only musical, VERY theatrical ofcourse - and very emotional. Really takes you on a journey, this one. Also has a narrator in between songs to tell the story so you won't even need the liner notes. I will say that it is a lot less heavy, musically. Also stars a lot of guest vocalists, including Casey Crescenzo on the very first track!
Yesss my favorite of all the EPs in TCS. Can't wait to see you do the rest and hopefully Act IV and V. I'm sure everyone has already said but Act IV is a masterpiece album and the best of their sound. Loving your vids, keep it up 👌
I love how he discusses Casey’s incredible compositions smilers and he hasn’t even gotten to Acts IV and V yet. Just you wait my friend, those albums definitely show off Casey as the genius that he his
I fully recommend watching the live recording of TCS they recorded years ago. They played the full concept album live in Brighton, MA. Glad to see you’re back on TDH groove again man! As always, love your insight.
This was a pleasant surprise to see in my Subscriptions feed! Your reactions are always great. EDIT (removed question) I just got to the end of the video, I knew I should've waited before commenting lol. Looking forward to Red!
Oh this is gonna be a sweet series of videos. I LOVE the whole Color Spectrum Project to the point that I had to own the vinyl release. It’s one of their strongest and tightest releases even though it’s so varied. You’re gonna have fun with this.
Hooray! Baldman! I'm happy to hear you're gonna knock out some more TDH. I'm certain some of the EPs will challenge your musical tastes, like you say.. but you know Casey does almost anything pretty damn well! :)
Black to me would sound distorted, static, chaotic, dark. Every color embodies different emotions in these albums. Try to assume what each color would sound like to you first and then listen through. very cool stuff.
I'm so glad you get to check this EP. The whole TCS collection has a richly diverse sound and all EPs are extremely different while still feeling part of the same concept. The main idea is exploring colour through sound. So they explore a lot of genres and styles. What you say about openers is something I fully agree on when it comes to Casey's work. And it's something this collection show because every first track of each EP sets the mood for the EP. He also shows this capability on Migrant, TDH's only non-conceptual work. This one is probably the longest EP so you get an idea of the length they usually have. It's personally one of my favourite because of how dark and gritty it is. This are trying times for sure. Take care and be safe!
Every color is played in the way Casey envisioned they would sound like to him. I look forward to your views on “Violet” as it is my personal favorite of the concept.
