This is very well done. I do love how you point out how the framing of the two main characters (as a dichotomy of sorts) does show that while Wendy is "free" while Lucy is "chained", Wendy is in fact "chained" by her freedom. A perfect metaphor of how 21st century capitalism "frees" its constituents in theory but in fact traps them in an economic chaos overlaid by law that favours the privileged. Great stuff.

"The Death of Community" was exactly what Kerouac protested against. He got that complaint from his father.
