Not going to lie, this was one of the best series finales I’ve seen in a television show. Every storyline was wrapped up perfectly.

It's a miracle how Dylan grew up to be such a normal wonderful guy, coming from a highly dysfunctional family.

Cried my eyes out! especially when he said "Thank you". Also the scene when he returns to his mother's arms with pure child love , no more obsessions no more sickness , just a little boy who loves his mom . great show and great acting !

The camera pulling out and revealing dead Norma while Dylan cries and cradles dead Norman is brilliant and sad. We started this journey with Norma and Norman happy and starting over. This is how they ended up. Just a sad shot.

Dylan did the right thing because putting Norman in a hospital wouldn't help him . Dylan killing Norman was a mercy kill. They needed to get an award for this scene.

The shot of Dylan holding Norman in his arms and crying as his little brother faded away beside their dead mother... god. That got me messed up.

Freddie highmore is unbelievable actor, those emotions expressions walk talk unbelievable gosh.

This was the best ending Norman could have had, at least this way he is not suffering by battling with himself anymore. Mother finally left Norman alone for good at the beginning of the finale and stopped causing him to black out, but Norman's dependence on Norma remained and he couldn't function without semblance of her, and it was painful to watch him "reset" and pretend it was the first day they'd moved to White Pine Bay.

At 5:40 you can see the pain on Norman’s face. I don’t believe it’s from physical strain, but rather emotional strain. He knows what he’s about to do, and he doesn’t like it. But he knows he has to do it. I can’t tell if it’s pain for himself as he prepares himself to give up his life, or if it’s pain for Dylan, since he’s putting a terrible burden on Dylan for asking him to do this deed. As another commented pointed out, Norman’s intent wasn’t to kill Dylan. It was to trick Dylan into killing him. You can tell because Norman raised the knife and slashed down in a certain way. The knife also landed in the wall. If Norman was going to kill Dylan, he would’ve slashed at his throat or gone for the gut. He wouldn’t have swung down at his face. I don’t think Dylan was oblivious to this either since he didn’t really flinch. Freddie Highmore fucking nailed this scene, as did Max Thieriot. You can feel the emotions through the screen, and that’s what makes them great actors. Tremendous respect for both of them.

Honestly the biggest plot twist of the show is that Dylan and Emma lived. Sometimes they pack the cast only so they have people to kill off and I definitely thought Dylan and Emma would be seen as disposable. But the fact that THEY got the happy ending, made me so happy because, they both really deserved it

Anybody else start sobbing like a child when Norman was dying and he ran to norma and turned back into a child? I mean, the imagery mixed with the soft rendition of "dream a little dream of me" really solidly destroyed me when I first watched this.

There's so much about this scene that just destroys me. The shock on Dylan's face when he shoots Norman. How immediately cradles him in his arms and apologizes, stroking his hair and comforting him in his last moments. It's so tragic that the first time they had this genuine and tender of a brotherly moment had to be their last. This show was phenomenal, the actors and writers really put their heart and soul into it. Really does the source material justice while being uniquely it's own. Criminally underrated, as many true forms of art are unfortunately. Thank you for this amazing story ❤️ I'll never forget it

one thing i learned from this show is that sometimes when a person has gone totally beyond saving, let them go....

Freddie Highmore is wonderful, his look is scary!

I know this scene hurts me but I can't stop replaying it. It's just that Norman was a sweet fragile boy and Freddie Highmore portrayed that really well. Also how Dylan came up to be the best big bro of this show.

Bates Motel is easily my favourite tv show of all time! What the bates family goes through is very believable and realistic and that's what makes this series so fantastic and scary and the acting from Vera Farmigra and Freddie Highmore is oscar worthy!

Freddie Highmore absolutely killed it as Norman Bates he also looks like he would make a great Ted Bundy and not only that he's doing a bang up job in the good doctor this guy is a future award winning actor for sure

I cried real fucking tears. One of the saddest most emotional and tragic endings to a show ever. But at least Dylan and Emma got to live happily ever after

Whoever wrote the scene where it switches to Norman constantly running until he can finally rest and go to his mother was brilliant.

Norman was never going to stab Dilan he just wanted to trick him into killing him.

I love Norman's pure innocense eyes and above all, the undying, multi-dimensional, pure, innocent, beautiful, fun love Norman and Norma had. It's magical and I'm so in love with this show.

Norman is my favorite character, but goddamn. That scene wasn't really sad to me. Dylan crying and hugging Norman tightly was what made me cry. He loved him. Even when Norman tried to kill him. Poor Dylan.

If Norman had gotten help from the beginning, maybe Dylan’s wish for them all to be together and having christmases together would of come true. Dylan truly loved Norman and Norma. I wish Norma and Dylan grew closer and she listened to him more. This is so sad. Norman was beyond help .

I've never felt so bad about an ending like this in any TV series I'm sad for the family but happy for Dylan having his own family.

This was definitely the hardest thing he had to do. The whole season Dylan's emotions could be felt through the screen and this scene was no different. He wanted to help Norman but deep down I think he knew his brother was beyond help and that's why he went to the house prepared. The conversation with his wife before he goes into the house was probably what broke my heart the most. He was prepared to die as long as he got to help his brother in whatever form that help came.

Why didn't Max Thieriot get an Emmy for this scene?

Criminally underrated.

Dylan was my favourite character on this show. I don't think Max Theriot gets enough recognition.

At first I didn’t wanted to watch this show bc I thought it was boring..,but after watching a couple of episodes I was literally addicted. I watched season 3 and 4 in two days! And I’m not even kidding😂this Show really is a good directed masterpiece with amazing actors!

Credit to the writers for absolutely sticking the landing in this show. While it was sad, the ending was perfect for the tone and direction of the series.

as someone who lost their mom who was their only parent and other half at 18, the grief and denial from it can take you into some very, very dark and scary places. especially when it’s an unbelievably unhealthy and co-dependent relationship, like mine was as well. living in a world without them seems impossible and almost as though it breaks the very rules of the universe itself. of course no one is advocating for keeping bodies of loved ones in their home but i would be lying if i said i didn’t understand his desperate want to want to stay in the world they had together, even if it’s not real to anyone else. facing the truth of it all feels like looking into the sun, it’s just too much all at once and too overwhelming. you have to look away at some point. seeing him run towards her is something i think about every single day. will i get to see her again? how long do i have to wait? will it be like the movies? will she look the same as she did when she left and know who i am? will she walk with me to the other side, together? god this just breaks my heart man.

MAX Thierot is just a perfect actor in bates motel !

Was I the only one who, until this episode, didn't lose hope that Norman would have a good ending, after all? Ever knowing he didn't deserve it, I wanted him to... You know, go to Pineview or something. But in the end, there wasn't any other option. His death was a happy ending, in a way. But if you think enough, this show has no happy ending. Romero is dead, Norma and Norman are dead. No one ever found Bradley body. Emma lost his mother. Everything leads to a Depressive end, and even if Dylan and Emma are together, he lost his brother. He lost his mother, and he lost Caleb. He's still married to Emma, but he lost everyone. Everyone he loved or cared, and in the end, all due to his psycho brother. And it becomes even sadder if you think that Norman didn't want to do any of this...

Dylan was one of my favorite characters in this show. I felt so bad for Dylan in this scene; he had such a completely screwed up life! I love how they did the scene of Norman as a young boy. Sad.

Watching Freddie play this character and seeing how he unraveled from seasons 1 to 5. this scene was heartbreaking to watch!

This reveal was so much better than the actual movies. We really get to see the tragedy of Norman's illness and how Norman was as much a victim of his illness as anyone he killed. Twenty times better than what Hitchcock came up with.

Everyone always talks about Freddie and Vera’s acting, and obviously they’re phenomenal, but I feel like Max deserves more recognition. He played Dylan’s complicated character so perfectly and the way he delivers his lines feels so natural. Especially in this scene, you can hear and practically feel the pain in his voice. Such a strong and amazing actor.

Max is such an under-rated actor. He is giving his A-game all throughout

I cried my eyes out on several occasions throughout the five seasons. Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore were incredible and they both carried me along with them until the very end. I don't think I've ever been so absorbed and involved in anything as much. A triumph.

Wow I just finished this show today. This show is so underrated and it is just wonderful... the photography, the 60's atmosphere in 2017, the clothes chosen for Norma and Norman (and the detail that they wore the same in the latest episodes) and of course, the great and scary interpretation by Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga. Wow, I just loved it and cried so much with the last episode seeing the little Norman hugging at last his beloved mother. Bravissimo, they did a magnificent work.

No one: Literally no one: Norman pushing Dylan: *SIT DOWN WITH MOTHER* I laugh so hard at that part😂

This is very touchful. For most of the serie I was wondering why Norma didn't manage to bring Norman to a doctor instead of hiding him and trying to protect him by the worst way. Well... their relationship isn't supposed to be understood. This would be certaily an Oscar serie, if that was possible. It's incredible how Greene and the others took something from the 60s and decided to make something like that nowadays with that kindness and perfection. All respect.

The first time I feel bad for a psychopath. Norman wanted to be good. The real Norman is so sweet and naive. Love Freddie Highmore so much. What a excellent actor, writer and director. A child star turns out to be decent and normal. ❤️❤️❤️
