The Death Traverse // Climbing The Wedge, Sedona

The lonely sandstone summit stood patiently for years without a visitor. There is a reason this mountain top sees few visitors. The summit is guarded by the intimidating death ledge that turns around the very few that can even find it. The wait is over as the backcountry duo gets out to make an attempt to summit and claim "The Wedge".

It's not that bad. I just did one like this called Chicken Corners in Moab, Utah. The simple mind trick I used was to look only at my path directly in front of my feet. In my mind, I pretended like 1 foot to my right was 50 feet of wide trail. It worked. If there was 50 feet of trail, for a fact, I could run on a painted footprint more narrow then that ledge at 7 mph. Like in life, we can either psych ourselves into things, or out of things. I taught skiing. 100% of the time, when skiers assumed they would fall, they did. They expected to fall so they assumed a pre-crash posture, sitting way back and out of control. By contrast, I lean forward. Most things in life are a mindset. This ledge is perfectly wide enough to walk across safely for most people, most of the time. Fun trail! I also just did Angels Landing. It had a few spots like this and even a sheer mountain wall you have to grab onto a cable to get across. Really fun- great view at the top. Half-dome cable ascent was great too. Life is an adventure. Dig it. There are no do overs. No regrets.

@@generalemail1964 No son. I added value. I could be like you- as deep as a puddle and simply state, "Wow, that was amazing." Sorry, but I have more to say then that. If you don't like it, move on or go back to playing your video games son. In all honesty, no one cares about your opinion. Namaste.

I'm going to give you a little advice. There's a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

@@jameshuntsman6046 Said many paralyzed dare devils. There is another force in the universe called good ole common sense that says play stupid games you will win stupid prizes. I get out there and have fun but I am not careless. In my younger days I was more careless.

Superb video. You had me really worried as you crossed those narrow ledges. One false step and ...?? Still worth the risk if you know what you are doing. You are lucky to have such beautiful treks close by you. Cheers !

I've done a fair bit of similarly sized ledges, but never with that much loose rock. I would be sweeping it all down before stepping on it, for sure!

Amazing climb....amazing photography.... I have to say though, that the music was very difficult and detracted so much. Very hard to continue listening. I would have muted it, but i wanted to hear your talking.....
