And don't forget Jacob's kids (well 10 of them) fooled him when they sold Joseph into slavery to the Ishmaelites... They told their Dad that Joseph was killed by a wild animal... That was a part of the deceiver being deceived again.... When one does bad things, many bad things happen to them as a result... These events were humbling catalysts for Jacob...

you forget one important factor the love of the Almighty prevailed for the sake of the birthright Jacob attained not overlooking the offenses except to deal with this in i would say a rather lenient manner and bearable which may not be the same for someone else, even so we learn from scripture that a simple is not enough, often is the case with much prayer including much fasting and sincere remorse and resolve not to repeat the offenses ,,,,,, 2 Esdras 2: 31 -100 '''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''';;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That is not completely truth. Bad things happen to us in this life that we may be tried and our hearts be sought out by God.. Jesus said they who mourn shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4)… he also said this: Luke 16:25 “But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.” God’s ways are not our ways. Must remember that and seek him out. The full rest of the story can be found in JASHER ch 31. God was always with Jacob, even in the birthright being his. It was why Esau broke the womb first but when Jacob came out, scriptures teach us his hand took hold on Esau's heel.

In those days daughters were the property of the father. Highly Patriarchal society in which women had little say on who they married and the father was King/God/Judge/Executioner, so even if Rachel knew about the plan and wanted to tell Jacob, the fear of her father would have stopped her dead in her tracks even if she would have had a rebellious thought against her father, she would not follow through with it.

Daughters were under the authority of their Fathers in those times. Also, Rachel did not want to embarrass her sister so she stayed silent. It is an interesting contrast how Laban deceived Jacob after he tricked Esau. However, Jacob was still blessed as his flock multiplied and Laban paid attention to this.. This is why he did not want him to leave. And thus, it can be said Laban knew Jacob was chosen from God and deceived him for his own personal gain.

Laban did not want Leah to stay unwed being undesirable because of her weak eyes. Who better than his nephew, who was potentially wealthy, and a hard worker to marry her off to. This is a bit distorted. The narrative illustrates Jacob as some sort of deceiver. But God loved Jacob and hated Esau (Mal 1:2) . God hated Esau because Esau despised his birthright. Esau didn't want the responsibility of being the oldest son. Knowing this Jacob purchased Esau's birthright for a bowl of soup. What Esau really wanted was the material blessing of his father. But this blessing is for the oldest son who carries extra responsibilities as the eldest son. Jacob did "trick" his father into blessing him with the material items from his father. But this is because Jacob was due the blessings as he was the son who carried the birthright. Since Jacob had taken on the birthright and all the responsiblities, which is due the material blessings of his father. The story illustrates that simply being the oldest son does not therefore mean the eldest son is due all the material blessings. If the eldest son, as Esau was, does not want to be involved in the brithrights, then he is not owed all the other blessings.

@searching4adventure85
@searching4adventure85 2 года назад
@@mikhailthegreatestdragon3627 but that isn't what the Bible says. Where does it say Esau deceived Jacob for his birthright? It says Jacob despised his birthright. Think about what Chapter 25 is saying. Esau was a skillful hunter and a man of the field. Then two verses later Esau came from the field, which he skillfully hunted and demands food from Jacob because Esau is עָיֵֽף . This is the Hebrew word for weary, faint, or tired. Esau even describes himself as עָיֵֽף (tired). Then when Jacob offers to buy Esau's birthright, Esau elevates his state of being עָיֵֽף (tired) and says he is going to die! No one in the history of the Bible has ever died from being עָיֵֽף (tired). It is clear that Esau did not want his birthright and easily sold it for a bowl of soup. Esau had no remorse for selling his birthright and was not deceived.

I don't think Rachael was marrying age, when Jacob asked for her hand in marriage. She might have been 9 or 10, so 7 years isn't a big issue. @Coco-og7zw
@Coco-og7zw Год назад
Seven years seemed like “some few days” to Jacob, so great was his love for Rachel. Thereafter, he claimed his veiled bride, little suspecting Laban’s treachery. Imagine his shock the next morning to find that he had slept, not with Rachel, but with her sister Leah! Jacob demanded: “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served with you? So why have you tricked me?” Laban replied: “It is not customary to do this way in our place, to give the younger woman before the firstborn. Celebrate to the full the week of this woman. After that there shall be given to you also this other woman for the service that you can serve with me for seven years more.” (Genesis 29:20-27) Defenseless and trapped, Jacob could do little but accept those terms if he wanted Rachel. Unlike the first seven years, the next were bitter. How could Jacob overlook Laban’s mean trick? And what of Leah, who played along with it? Of course, Laban was not in the least interested in the turbulent future he prepared for Leah and Rachel. Self-interest was his concern. Jealousy was added to resentment when Leah bore four sons in quick succession, while Rachel remained barren. Then Rachel, desperate for children, resorted to offering her maid as a surrogate mother, and out of rivalry, Leah did the same. Jacob found himself with 4 wives, 12 children, and anything but a happy family. Yet, Jehovah was making Jacob into a great nation.-Genesis 29:28-30:24.

I never thought of Jacob as scheming, b/c my former religion casts him as favored by God and framed Esau as irresponsible and unappreciative, even wicked. Seems like the bible has a long tradition of brothers in contest for gods favor: Cain and Abel, Jacob and Esau and the other pair escapes memory (from below - Isaac and Ishmael). I wouldn't be surprised if such rivalries were super common in the Middle East due to inflexible inheritance traditions and last rite blessings from dying fathers. You could loosely include the rivalry btw Satan and Jesus and though not related by birth between Moses and the Pharaoh with whom hed been reared, possibly as potential ruler of Egypt.

I had a dream 2 nights ago. In the dream I heard over and over “Laban paved the way for Jesus”. Seeing Laban as a deceiver, this confused me. But if we really look at this story we can see that Jesus is in the line of Judah. And Judah was the 4th son of Leah. And we can also see in this story that Jacob likely would not have married Leah if Laban gave him Rachel first. Now does this make Laban righteous? Not likely. We see later in the story that when Jacob leaves Laban, and Laban chases him down, he searches the tents for his images. Those images, Laban describes as his gods. So here we can see that Laban was not a man of God. The lesson from this, while the works of satan often appear to work in antithesis of God’s plan. However the reality is that God is so far ahead of satan, satan doesn’t know that his works actually were taken into account for the good of God’s plan.

To form the 12 tribes they came from 4 women but a lesson is they took it upon themselves to do this being impatient! So like Sara also did, she didn't have patience when told she would have a child in her old age she didn't listen like most modern women and got impatient gave her maid to her husband for a child,later she did get pregnant but think about how this was not the man's thought this was women !! It’s too late for Jacob and Rachel but I still detest the will of the tradition against true love... If Laban had permitted it even Sarah forgotten to inform Jacob about it, maybe Rachel could had marry Jacob as Jacob desire her.... Leah never love him she has no proof Rachel stole him from her in fact, it could be the reverse that Leah stole him by deception unbeknownst to Rachel. If Rachel had did insisted they would have been a happy couple.... Leah done out of the duties of God but never for real love she never respected him in the first place either....
