Dear lord this deck is the definition of overwhelming. There's too many resources for mid-range and aggro decks to fight through. It's like facing against a final boss
Yeah I just now farmed Bo1, it's 70-80% aggro, mid is good as you mention, and after 7 straight Ws I finally lost to a grixis control deck. There's so much card draw too, it's beautiful to clown on the black discard deck
It's funny one of the domain deck's worst matchups is against the 36 wraths deck. Their removal is useless if you don't play permanents, they don't have enough threats to outlast 36 wraths, and they will eventually deck themselves by drawing too much off beanstalk and atraxa.
Domain feels like a final boss fight as much as it ever has. Overlords make this deck so much better. Used to be they wouldn't have anything out before Atraxa. Now, though, they WILL get a big body unless you deal with those before they hit the field. But I've actually discovered that my own Narset Token Midrange deck still works just fine against it and even got new tools in the form of Enduring Courage. This deck is very beatable. They need Beans to draw cards, and it's more important than ever to destroy those thanks to the overlords allowing them to ramp while they draw and enable domain in one turn. Despite how many good cards are in this deck, they NEED all those cards, and they can't ramp with only single green anymore, l so their mana is less consistent, and their deck is largely composed of lands to try to fix this. Without Beans, they'll run out of removal quickly, and as much as Overlords eventually create a body and do enable Domain immediately, you need every opener to start with one and double green or they can't ramp and enable Domain, and if they don't have that, it makes their removal a lot slower. If you can make them waste turn 3 holding removal instead of ramping, you but more time before the Sunfall. The fact that the overlords impend means they're slower than Atraxa, so you have time, and you must deal damage quickly with a wide board, but not one that gets routinely crushed by Temporary Lockdown. Aggro is actually not bad against Domain. Domain gets wrecked by Leyline decks, but as the aggro, you can't dump your whole hand onto the field to get board wiped. You have to bait out the board wipes with pressure, then blitz them down while they're tapped out. If you can remove enchantments and creatures with your spells, even better. You have to get damage where you can and then seal the deal once they're stuck recharging. Just like a boss fight. Play careful, but hit them when they're open. To win, you need to either have ways of dodging or countering their board wipes, or you need the redundancy to rebuild after, or you need to kill them before they Sunfall everything you have.
Up the Beanstalk is OP tho. It works on all card types (not only creature), also it counts only on the "printed" mana value, which can be abused by cards with alternative cost.
watching every copy of up the beanstalk draw 6 cards a game is just mindblowing, one of those two mana plays that requires an immediate answer or you just get absolutely drowned.
Up the Beanstalk is just a crazy card. If you untap with it, it isn’t hard for it to be 2mv draw 2, which is already above rate. And you often draw 5+ cards over the course of a game.
Yeah, the card is just poorly designed. It cycles upfront and all the rest is bonus; even if it were worded "whenever you spend five or more mana for casting a spell" it would still be broken. It shouldn't draw on entering.
To be honest, even when Atraxa rotates out, Domain will still exist in a different form: Bant Control with all the new overlords and Beanstalk synergy. Whether it will be meta is a different story.
Holy crap, I know we all know that 5 color decks always try to go over the top of whatever their opponents are doing, but DAMN tbis deck doesn't even have to try. It just does! Really powerful stuff here Luca, i appreciate you making this deck for us, but I sure hope I don't have to play against this xD
You either put enough greed in the deck to beat domain/reanimator or you add enough cheap conditional removal to beat mono red. There really isn't much room in between. Also there is absolutely nothing preventing this deck from cutting back slightly on the removal and adding a full playset of either the white or black overlords. Good luck dealing with thier value train then.
I wouldn't really bother with the Black overlord, remember that he only gets "Non-Avatar" creatures out of the graveyard. So if your deck is loaded with Overlords he's going to miss a lot of the time. Plus the Domain deck in its default configuration is mostly white/green, there isn't a ton of black sources to pay for the BB cost.
@@jasonslade6259 Green overlord near automatically fixes those mana issues on it's own. Also they were more pulling enchantment removal out while adding more targets to rite of the moth and/or smugglers surprise. It was far more abzan in mana pie and removal suite apposed the naya displayed here and I suspect the the black overlord was slotted over a few of the beanstalks. Edit: Granted this could have been a localized phase of the ladder as I have also people running atraxa and ghalta in straight orzov reanimator..
@@ericwolf9664 I agree, you can bypass the mana issues by switching to a more black-heavy version of the deck but I've played a creature heavy Golgari deck with 8 overlords in it and the number of times that I cast Balemurk on turn 2 and got no hits was unacceptable. If you go up to 12 overlords its going to be even worse. I just don't think he belongs in that kind of deck.
35:16 could you have still used the not on my watch after the 3 damage resolves/they choose to sack scamps, in full control? Would make any pump spells they have redundant.
It’s the versatility that makes it good. You can play it sooner when needed and can split up the damage while gaining life. Not to mention it’s easier to cast in this deck than something that’s double red.
I play Temur and my favorite win in this meta was continuously bouncing atraxa to the reanimator player's hand and watching them mill themselves out into a loss
I got downvoted for saying we should wait until after rotation to have yearly bans and use domain as an example of a deck that may still be to strong even after rotation. I got attacked and downvoted into oblivion "because rotation kills the deck"
