A good CEO can always predict future changes. Nokia had enough time to move to android, instead they were arrogant and thought people would just buy whatever Nokia EXECUTIVES think is right. Not observing the market and poor marketing research is the main issue.

OPK I was one of your employees for the period 2006 till 2009 until you retrenched me in Malaysia, put is simply despite what you have just said to justify the downfall of nokia and your difficulties here's what you should have done, I am not saying this in hindsight nor I am saying this to spite you, I was saying this way back in 2007 and my message to you as the CEO should be, Fuck the symbian software! Just adopt Android, make great Nokia phones and sell them this is our business objective, we still have the 40% market share then and we still dictate to everyone what they should be buying when shopping for a mobile, A GREAT NOKIA HANDSET WITH APPS LIKE THOSE THEY HAVE NOW ON A SAMSUNG and when Nokia secured itself and have successfully defended its market share from Samsung and Apple then talk about the future of symbian and meego. Your indecision and dilly dally caused many to lose their jobs at Nokia after a life long career and caused disruption to our families. always remembered make the money and you talk the loudest and the heartiest!!!!

2:08 He's a liar. All your fans begged you to leave Symbian when it was still possible and to adopt Android. If you did so, you would be at the same level than Samsung. We sent thousands of messages at the support teams and never ever had a response. I bought the 5800XM in January 2009 and immediately knew that the OS would be obsolete quickly. It wasn't ergonomic, only a key phone OS porting. It was already 6months after the iPhone 3G and the famous appstore came. Then Nokia released the N97 which was decent (should have been the 1st touchscreen) but even if it has a stunning design, the OS was shitty. And after that, they put a minimum effort on Maemo with the N900 which was bad OS too, and also the N9 with Meego/Tizen. Decisions at Nokia were the worst. When we, buyers, asked for Android, you insisted and hired a Windows trojan. I was so sad to see Nokia dying this way. Still to this day I regret the good times of Nokia

You are so right. Small HTC in Taiwan had less than 1% market share. They did both Microsoft Windows Phone and Android. It would have been so easy for Nokia to do the same. Such monumental incompetence. The person interviewing is equally clueless.

Nokia was just supposed to drop Symbian for it seemed outdated .Still being a world leader it needed to change fast and not react rigid to changes. It stuck in old victory that worked for them then!

This video is terrible. He is just saying that execution is important but difficult in a large company. We know that. The person interviewing is not asking any difficult questions. What is the point? To make a failed CEO feel good? Come on, the CEO is a boomer and should be able to deal with some difficult questions. A few years after the interview, he went on to new failures. He became CEO of another company that he ran into the ground.

Symbian was not released on all Nokia devices, only those with money could afford the expensive Symbian devices. But consumers exist on a spectrum, thus the smart software should have been shipped with every device. Nokia played itself, it could have had the smartphone monopoly long before the rise of android. It was obvious that people wanted devices capable of powerful computing at a reasonable cost. I loved Symbian so much, I learnt to navigate the web with second hand devices. Its life.

There was an ongoing gag during the ending years of Nokia handhelds that every Symbian coder was seen in high regard by other employers because if you knew how to create anything with Symbian you could do amazing things in any other platform. I bet there was some truth to it. Nokia was not good at understanding the changing environment and that Symbian was simply just not very flexible and definitely not user friendly. Nokia was first and foremost a hardware designer, not a software designer and it showed. Nokia was amazing when the OS could be simple enough with the monochrome displays which resembled calculators more than modern handhelds, but when they should have started to think about the modern user interface it simply was a thing Nokia didn't understand. Success is often the reason for failure, Nokia's handheld devices are a perfect example of this.

IBM was a big bulky manufacturer of servers and they did a good move to switch to produce PC's which are open making IBM compatible PC's successful. So it is not fully true that there were no similar disruption on market before. Nokia was loosing market share, and they have still not switched to Android but they started to focus on low-cost markets India and China, but nobody wanted to have cheap mobile. You simply screwed it up, admit it.

This man, even after years of being CEO of the back then biggest phone company, is d u m b as f u c c. He may have never heard about the word conglomerate. Like Honda producing bikes, planes, lawnmowers and solar panels. Even Nokia had 2 totally different businesses in which they had leadership when he was CEO : manufacturing phones and networks

Stop calling Google and Apple big, because Nokia was bigger..launch a Lumia with android today and I would happily give up my note 4.

Nokia got to arrogant and held to symbian for too long and hired a microsoft trojan horse for a CEO and adopted windows phone/mobile OS as a platform instead of android thats your downfall. Nokia mobile phones have great tech and hardware, its the OS and software that doomed the company.

With Android it would be the same. Nokia would be just one more android smartphone. No big deal. They choosed Windows Phone because they thought choosing something rare would make them original.

The thing is, when it would be Android. I would be buying a Nokia. Because the hardware they made for Microsoft was DAMN GOOD. But i hated the software. So that was not a buy for me.
