Ryan you're way ahead of the curve on this one my friend. top quality review and you hit essentially all home gym decision making process, from the very start of the vid i put one of these in the shopping cart and tried to wait until the end to finalize the decision lol. i have a single plate loaded cable station, but i think having 1 would suit me more effectively. thanks for all of your insights, you literally deserve 300k subs vs. 3k seeing the other content out there. they will come to know soooon!!
I’ve always struggled with normal leg extensions because I could never get full range of motion. Monkey foot is awesome because you can get on your back and allow your leg to hit your hamstring, and push up from there. That’s actual full range of motion.
I have one of these and they are incredible! The isolation in the hamstrings is so good to have at home. They also work with Bowflex adjustable dumbbells for anyone interested! I'm also in the UK and they are working on shipping here. I had to get them delivered to a friend in NYC and then sent on.
Ive actually used two at the same time doing laying down leg curls laying down on my stomach on my flat bench and I do feel them isolated and burn nicely
I just bought a pair of Monkeyfeet after getting fed up with the Kensui ANKR and how tedious to set up it is and unstable it feels with anything over about 30 lbs. Plate loaded foot weights is a great idea, but the execution just isn't there with ANKR for any sort of serious lifting. From reading reviews, it seems like the vast majority of ANKR users are using very light weights. I'm looking to move some decent weight with leg extensions at the end of my leg day in my garage gym. Monkeyfeet not only seems much faster to set up, but more substantial and stable. Here's hoping at least; I haven't received it yet. Oh, and in terms of leg extension setup: not only do you need a tall object to sit on, but ideally you need empty space underneath you as well. My solution to this is setting up my flat bench on two 12 inch plyo boxes. Works pretty well. It's far from perfect because the the bench doesn't have enough width and as a result my thighs are hanging off the edge quite a bit. But these are the sacrifices you have to make with an exercise like leg extensions that are surprisingly hard to do without purpose-built equipment. I may just end up getting the Titan leg extension machine one of these days.
I got the Titan Leg Extension and like it for the most part. As for setting up with Monkey Feet, the best option I found was to sit on the back of an inclined bench. That also helps with having load at the bottom of the rep vs just having the weight dead hang at the bottom. I have the ANKR's and am going to do a review on them. So far I love them but I haven't used heavy weight on them yet. We'll see if that changes my opinion.
@@RyanTreadaway This review would be great comparing the two! Especially as the ANKR seems to work with box designs eg: Powerblocks or FAST Pepin series
I enjoyed your MonkeyFeet and Ironmaster adjustable dumbbell reviews. They are helpful. I have Ironmasters with heavy hands attached, and they aren't coming off anytime soon. It appears that MonkeyFeet will either be a very tight fit or they won't fit at all on my Ironmasters with the heavy handles attached. What is your experience? Do MonkeyFeet fit on Ironmasters with heavy handles attached? Thanks.
I don't have the heavy handle kit myself. I measured one time a long time ago and if I remember correctly, they barely fit. I'd check the dimensions to be sure before ordering.
1 of these is great for most uses, but, with 2, there are two exercises that become much more feasible: you can use them for weighted pull-ups/chin-ups (since having weight on just one leg doesn't quite feel right for weighted pull-ups), and you can use them for weighted leg raises (either leg lifts from the floor, from a captain's chair device, or hanging leg raises). likewise, just weighting one leg wouldn't be great for using them with leg raises. there's also a niche use of them for two. if you are working on flexibility and trying to achieve the split, you can weigh each leg, lie down facing up, then do a split in the air, and the weight will help with the stretch. that's kind of niche though as most people aren't trying to increase their flexibility so much they can do a split. but if you are, it's also useful to have two for that.
@@RyanTreadaway so if there is no any painand u feel the pummp after a good leg workout with those i think its worth buying one to add to your tools . tnx :)
Best review I've ever seen of this product. Would you recommend this over the Ironmaster leg attachment? I have the ironmaster bench and dumbbells and was looking at the leg attachment but this looks like more bang for less bucks.
Thanks Brandon! And that's a tough one. I think the question that needs to be answered is what are you using them for? If you're JUST doing leg ext/leg curl, I'd probably go with the bench attachment. A dedicated piece of equipment is almost always going to be better than a Swiss army knife. If you'd like to be able to do a whole boatload of different exercises, of course go with the monkey feet.
@@RyanTreadaway You helped a ton, sort of weighing pros and cons. Really enjoy your content Ryan, I feel like your channel is right on the edge of blowing up!
I'm actually not sure. Just look at the dimensions of the monkey feet and make sure the Bowflex DBs have a wide enough handle. I haven't tested the monkeyfeet with a dumbbell that hasn't worked yet though.
You mentioned how it felt on your foot. I’m very fit, but suffer from reoccurring Posterial Tibial Tendonitis (from competitive cycling). With three kids, I workout at home. Do you think these put too much stress on the ankle joint?
I experienced absolutely no discomfort at all. If you have chronic ankle issues (and not knowing the severity), I couldn't say for sure how it would feel for you personally.
Interesting products.good review bro.one thing though, were you able to load the leg curls and extensions heavy enough to get down to a hypertrophy rep range?
Try a 40# dumbbell and see if you can even complete a slow set of 6-8 reps. (Not calling you out, I’m just saying these are deceptively hard even with a light db.
Could you use them for kicks? Help with Martial Arts Training? I guess what I'm asking is does the product hold the weight tightly enough or would the weight snap off. Thank you.
The clamp wraps around the DB handle completely. There's no way it could possibly escape unless the clamp itself broke, which I find unlikely. They feel very solid.
If you have adjustable dumbbells, not the handles with spin lock collars, but one's that have some sort of built-in mechanism for selecting the weight, and it's sensitive to rough handling that you wouldn't want to drop or set down to roughly, can you use these without potentially damaging the dumbbells?
Looks like a cool product, but my DB setup at home is a set of PowerBlock DBs. I don't think they'd work those as they handle is recessed. Kind of a bummer. Oh well, good review regardless.
I didn't think to check and I burned the boxes yesterday. Lol They feel pretty high quality though. I'm guessing they can hold more than you could lift. They work just the same with the ironmasters.
I can't see the price cost . They are $75 for a bunch of plastic , and that only buys one! There's plenty videos how make own "monkey feet" with a strap or band.
Any advantage to using these over ankle straps if I’m only using them with a cable machine? Also, can you recommend a workout seat that can support leg extensions and leg curls done with a cable machine like a Freemotion?
I would say probably just ease of use if you already have a cable machine. The monkey feet are quick to put on and take off. As far as the seat question is concerned, I would just sit on the end of a slightly inclined bench.
