Sheep herding in very rough conditions, locations no help except from his dogs, requires a special personality/person. My cousin from Peru was a herder, who preferred to being alone, away from humans. The family could rely on him to manage and protect the herd and dogs with his life. To the family they understood my cousin/s nature and cherished him like royalty. So to this herder Francisco, life is good, he is satisfied man.

Most shepherds are now Peruvian guest workers. That's the way some politicians and wealthy people would like a lot of other jobs to be as well... very different from modern day Cowboys actually, which still include plenty of Anglo and Tejano (and Navajo!) as well as Mexican workers. Many used to be Black as well and some still are in the South.

This was only a profile of one man, -your statement is not supported by this film. But it is the Atlantic so of course they want a hard working immigrant narrative. It would go against their broader narrative to show Anglos doing this kind of work BUT most US shepherds are in fact from South America Peru specifically.
@jKLa
@jKLa 2 года назад
Actual Cowboys (not shown in this ignorantly titled film) however are often Anglo, as well as Mexican and Mexican American (many are Tejanos going back many generations). Many were once Black but not so much anymore. Some Native groups are also heavily involved today, especially the Navajo who also do a lot of construction work in the four corners area.
@jKLa
@jKLa 2 года назад
Plenty of Mormons are actual cowboys, herding cattle for pay, but not Shepherds. Less then half of US Mormons have college degrees btw. (Who the hell came up with this ignorant title or is it really just Arrogant???! Anyhow US Shepherds are largely Peruvian guest workers which has been true for decades now. Just how many/most Democrats (and more then a few Republicans to be honest) would like all sorts of jobs to be if they had there way...
