People crave simplicity/fulfilling work, especially in nature. I liked the equal emphasis on Pedro the man, and his work. Nobody to suggest, but there's a trend in documenting dying/lesser-known trades and knowledge. It's hard to know what scratches that itch and garners more attention when half of us have social media-induced ADHD.
This was very interesting. I had no idea. Thank you for showing us. Great story telling by the way. You have many talents. I always wished I could be fearless and ride like you all do. That’s what got me watching originally during covid. Oh and your laughter during it all. Up beat and fun to watch
Morgan is one of my closest friends, and when Pedro said "I got sent to a great group of people", he couldn't have been more right. Morgan and his family run an incredible ranch, and getting to follow along watching his videos, and videos like this that he is apart of, is a great glimpse into the world of ranching and farming. I couldn't be more excited for such a great guy like Morgan to be getting this type of exposure. Thanks for the video!
The life of a modern-day sheepherder like this is one I feel like I'd do terribly at, and yet I still feel incredibly envious of. I'll bet Pedro and co. feel more satisfied after a day's work than most of us do...
My father's friend owns a sheep ranch in MT and they have guys that come up from Peru(and I think Venezuela?) to help lamb out thousands of ewes. One guy in particular has worked there twenty years, as the foreman. Now, his wife and daughters live here with him.
Growing up bow hunting in the mountains of Utah, I have also ran into many sheep herders. My dad and I would always stop and chat and maybe bring them any supplies they may need. They are always very nice and happy to talk.
Great video, I worked for a rancher who had Peruvian sheep herders. I worked with them during lambing in the spring. they where the best people to work with. They had the best manners and respect for other people and the animals they work with. they where funny and just great people to be around, I enjoyed all the time I spent working with them and learning a new culture. I miss working with them, they are very hard working people And YES,,,,, they where just like Family.
A perfect opportunity for an app to teach English while relaxing in the evenings. Maybe learning Spanish back at the ranch. Pedro you are a man of integrity. Great video.
Really enjoyed the video, where I spent most of my life there were sheep herders from the Basque Country. Northern Nevada, Elko County you'll find trees marked with dates and the names of a few of the herders who like Pedro worked hundreds of sheep. An interesting life for sure, and if you ever get to Elko, or Boise try the Basque food restaurants, you won't regret it.
We have a friend who was an orphan. The Basks took him in and raised him as their own. He herded sheep with them, in many places in the west. He had so many wonderful stories. It was a beautiful life.
These Guys come to Idaho every year. I ALWAYS Stop to Hang out with them for a few hours, Give them Canned food, Snacks, Beans,Rice,Bread and even Treats for the Dogs ( which are HUGE and always stare at me like i owe them money)! Dudes are always Friendly and Cool and Appreciative of the gifts.
I think you would become highly successful if you were to do more documentaries on the unsung workers like Pedro that have committed their lives to doing a job that matters but goes mostly unnoticed. Ranchers, herders and such. This one was very interesting. I could become a youtube junky with more of this content!
This video reminded me of riding in the Uinta mountains Butterfly lake to Henry's fork came across thousands of sheep but only a couple sheep herders and a few dogs
Honestly, how can I get a work like this? This is literally my dream. I'm venezuelan, and I speak fluent English. I love animals and I want to help taking care of them.
Amazing story. Had several friends who ranched and ran sheep and employed sheepherders, sometimes Mexican's sometimes Navajos. Since America started importing the meat and wool they could no longer afford to keep sheep so went to strictly cattle. Wool sits in the shed and they are unable to sell it so ya cannot blame them. No more sheepherders or camps going up into the mountains. Miss that part of Americana.
I absolutely love yalls channel. Yes more videos like this is such an educational experience. People need to know more about different lifestyles. Like for instance Farmers life and where actual food comes from. Just like the Cowboy way of life.. Ranching etc. Great job. God bless
That was great. As a "dog person" im always interested in working dogs. As soon as you started narrating i was thinking "i hope he has LGD! I want to see his LGD!" 😊
My family had a ranch in western Colorado. We ran sheep, cattle and a dairy. Every Saturday we would stop at the L&M grocery store in Collbran for 5 lbs of flour, coffee, beans and a large hunk of some kind of meat then head up to the High Tower mountain in a 1968 truck bed style Bronco. Before the Bronco it was a 1945 Willys Jeep. We would handi man jack and come along winch our way to find the sheep herder, Then the environmental police made us stop. Pack horses added an extra couple hours to the trip.
Awsome! Love Pedro..and the support of his American family. So many people come to our country for a better life..and they may be from other countries....but has great opportunities.
Hey I'm a sheep herder in monument valley utah.. I love the life an many sheep camps passed down from generation to generation.. thanks for documenting pedros life an sharing sheep herding in mountain life.. 😊
I hope you give that msn a big bonus every yr & pay his plane tickets home for missing his children growing up..He misses out on lifetimes in other ways. I love that he enjoys his job, being well paid would be the icing! Nice story!
I’m very suited to such a life. I love horses and riding, enjoy my own company. I spent 3 months on a mountain -without electricity I brought books but I ended up busy with outdoor tasks like fencing. Loved watching the stars. Working on languages just in case. 😁
I'm glad your back filming I love your channel I love horses. So when I stumbled across your channel I watched a video and I fell in love! Please do more videos your upload schedule is kinda bad.
I love the VID so much. You should also go ahead down to the naval reservation to get some videos or imaging on sheep herders down there. There's a lot of cows mules and petroglyphs in the rocks. Navajo's love to talk about history their culture and tradition. Also good regarding america's history ❤😊
So sad, but Beautiful scenery and great story. Why don’t we have Americans doing this job? Why would he leave his wife and kids? This is the problem with the visa system here. We have people coming here taking from our nation work and money then sending it to another country. The poor wife and kids who can only see their father a couple months a year. The immigrants have learned how to take advantage of our open borders. While our nation is being bled dry. I feel so bad that the economy in Peru is bad .
In Wyoming, most sheepherders that stay with the sheep on summer pastures are Basque or Mexican. Some American citizens do it but a fair share of them have arrest warrants and herd sheep to make money while hiding from the law.
I would love to see you do a story with him again in the future ! Ask him what he thinks about his line of work if he happens to still be herding and just his story in general
Shepherds in the past was the wisest people who ever set foot on earth. Gods chosen men were all tasked with shepherding before they had to take on the responsibility of guiding mankind.
