My name is David and with my dog Lefty we travel the country in our ambulance conversion RV. I made this change to my life and you can too! Like, subscribe and comment! Lefty would appreciate it - he wants the adventures to keep coming!
The Campulance is a 2002 Ford E450 Marque Commando 164 Class III ambulance powered by the Ford 7.3l Powerstroke turbo diesel engine and a 4 speed 4R100 transmission. Lefty is a 68lb American Staffordshire Terrier (best I can tell) that came from the Verona Street Animal Shelter (www.vsas.org/) in March 2014 at the age of 9 months. We have been living full time in the campulance since July 2019. #ambulancelife #vanlife #staffordshireterrier

It's the" Welcome back, why did you leave me like that", Lefty Zoomies!!! Cutest thing ever. I enjoyed the ride with you to see how everyone hangs out in the Desert. It's so interesting that there are the big areas that are open like that and then it looks like the border of bushes was planted purposefully to enclose it. I suppose it's actually that there were many more bushes, grasses and trees and then so many rigs parked that it killed them back to the edges, though. Looks nice anyway. The sunrise and sunset shots that you give us are fantastic. Stay safe and well, you two.

I am now 42 years between motorcycles when I had my Honda CB360, but a serious accident grounded me & my wife to be. Before that in the 70's we had a Yamaha 125 on the farm & I was always getting grounded after taking it 3 miles down to the highway where it was so smooth to go full throttle ... But the other milking barns would always rat me out to my dad, lol. I remember the smell, sound, & vibration of that 2 stroke so well. If I ever become single again I hope I am not too old for another 2-stroke. But with the pickup truck wiping us out 42 years ago I was banned from even showing my desire to get another bike , lol. Using it off-trail in AZ & CO would be fun though. Cheers, Davey & Sheila

27:33 That "Samurai" is what is called a Jimny everywhere else. They weight about a ton in the current three door version, but the old soft top Samurai with the rear seats pulled out would be well under that. Just be careful, because there's usually warnings about flat towing them (and many other small cars) because the gear box needs to be powered. The lube for the gearbox is driven off the input shaft. This is based on the manual for my 2022 Jimny - YMMV but it would pay to check any vehicle you intend to flat tow. You can pull the prop shaft of course, but that's way more trouble than I would want to go to. I think the automatic transmission has the same restriction. There's not a lot of Samurais in the US because "consumer reports" did a number on the Suzuki. They claimed it rolled over easily but had to go to extreme lengths to get it to do so. The first driver they had drive it said it was no more likely to roll over than any other similar vehicle, so they got a stunt driver to drive it ridiculously hard. I guess they needed a sensational story to sell their now defunct magazine but another motivation was that a Journalist from that magazine actually did roll one over. Suzuki sued but by then it was too late and They pulled out, because the majority of Americans really aren't interested in their cars anyway. A lot of people think the vehicle is banned in the US. It's not - Suzuki just couldn't be bothered. I really love my Jimny. It's a fun daily driver that parks almost anywhere and is a capable off-roader because it's so light.

Hey David, You went right through where my RV owners group is camped to, Outdoors RV. I saw a bunch on your video. Thanks for going through there and showing me how crowded it was. Glad I did not go hang out down there. I understand about the generators. Had a neighbor move in yesterday about 50 ft away in a toyhauler, pointed his onboard exhaust of his generator right at my trailer when he parked. woke up to that at 6:15 am this morning. even though he has solar as well. He bought a new honda generator to not use as much fuel and got that out today. for 1200 he spent on the generator and all the gas he is using he coulda replaced his dieing AGM batteries with lithium, Lol. So he set that up with the exhaust pointed at my trailer up on a tote so it is higher and ran it from 3:30- until 10pm cutoff time. The office here said they are 200 permits ahead of last year at this time.

The best TOAD for you would be a Wrangler TJ, 1997-2006 are the years they were made. Advantages: 1. Reliable, Capable and light. 2. Parts are readily available and cheap. 3. Extensive forums and support. (anything that can go wrong with one will have a detailed write up on the Wrangler forums, making doing your own repairs much easier.) Look for one that is stock, un-modified, the last thing you want is to inherit some idiots project jeep that is screwed up nine ways to Sunday. Six cylinder is preferred but the four cylinders are cheaper to buy, lighter and super easy to work on - just don't expect to go on the freeway and climb steep grades at 75 mph. Towing is a breeze, just put the transfer case in neutral and it flat tows easily.
@TheCampulanceMan

Four cylinder Wrangler TJ with a soft top, half doors and a manual transmission. It's a cheaper, better, more reliable experience than an overpriced side by side and not much bigger or heavier. Flat tow it and you wont even know it's back there. Climbs a mountain like a Billy Goat, turns on a dime, cheap to license and insure. Maintenance and upkeep is easy. It's a win for a nomad like yourself. @@TheCampulanceMan

David, I forgot to answer about your Rig towing a Suzuki. I’m sure it would but I would suggest having a Trailer to drive it onto. That way you could have electric brakes and be able to back it up easily, load other ‘stuff’ and still safely control down hills without adding dead weight to hold back. Just an opinion. JimO
@TheCampulanceMan
@TheCampulanceMan 8 месяцев назад
That's a good point Jim. More weight going down mountains would be hairy.

@@TheCampulanceMan if the Trailer was enclosed or partially enclosed, you could put things like your gasgas and ebike + inside to make your to-from trips less cluttered. I know what that can be like 😎. JimO

So cloudy today and struggling with solar. The laundromat was pleasantly not busy. I didn’t hear the boom, I’m across the street from you. But I don’t hear very well, lol. I kind of felt it was not all that busy here this year too. Some big rigs moved in over here, in a big circle and Ginny’s running and a lot of the smaller rvs left. Take care my friend!!

I set up a pickup to tow behind a Class A. In hindsight a trailer would have been more useful. Backing up a towed vehicle is a real pain, (trailers are much easier). Some areas require brakes on a towed vehicle to be functioning when the RV brakes are applied. With a trailer, one can tow any vehicle that will fit. There might be room for a motorcycle as well. I would never flat tow another vehicle, ( I bought a trailer with tandem electric brakes for about what it costs to convert a toad with brakes that work).
@TheCampulanceMan
@TheCampulanceMan 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for that insight. I've never flat towed, only trailer towed so it's good to get feedback.

Good morning David is that last area where you got on it with your bike. The LTVA West area ? If so that would be an ideal area for my wife and I to camp at. We like our solitude. And if so how far would it be from those dump station/water area? Nice ride in the desert. Mt best friend and I were in Tucson way back in 1975, and I am sure allot has changed since then. Rode my motor cycle out into the desert one morning to watch the sunrise. I could feel the rush you got from the toque of your bike. Take care David and please be safe out there. I can really tell Lefty sure does love you, he is so happy you made it back to your site.

But properly further for the water and dump station. Have you visited the new dump station that were recently built or are they usable yet? Take care David , safe travels to you and Lefty.

Generator noise from front of Class A is because these rigs are diesel pushers, and manufacturers put the generators up front where you expect the engine to be. I have a Freightliner (chassis) Tiffin Allegro Bus with a 7.5kw diesel generator. No overnight running because I have plenty of power in my lithium batteries. I will run my generator about 2 hours per day. Not to “top off” but just to make sure I have enough power overnight to keep my bride warm and happy.

There are some nose generators that are very quiet - I have been surprised at how quiet they can be :) The outdoor metal frame generators are the real criminals!

Thanks for the ride ! your voice was shaky like you were 95 y/o. lol. I own a 1988 samurai (I bought it in 1997) and for your info it weights 2200 lb. I'm pretty sure your E-450 diesel could tow it behind directly with tow bars .. (but I'm not the expert here hehe.) if you plan on towing a vehicle on a trailer then it's different, you have to consider the tongue weight of the trailer applied on your E-450. it adds up to your actual cargo capacity. Have a nice day man. I appreciate you
